Q about NZ Hospitals from an OZ nurse!
Yes very interesting for us also! We are looking at moving to Geraldton WA, my hubby is in Briz this week setting his MC license, and then I hope to get a job in ED there. Think the pay should be much better than ere. Even though I am 16yrs registered and have done a PGdip, if I dont do my silly pdrp upkeep they can deduct my pay...Arhhh! That involves peer reviews and self assessment, and restraint packages silly considering every thing else that you do! I hope for a better pay there, not sure how the level system works there though???, im sure from what you are saying that we will be better off, we struggle here, so its a hard choice for nurses to come here. All the best for your move then, hey and would like any info on the above that you can tell me ta. Kind regards Liz.

AHHHHHHHH REAL Monsters!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey there newbie, well after 12 plus years I still have the same coping strategies as you do and personally I think it works fine!!! Not only can it lighten your day, but others as well! Yup at times the day just sucks!!!:angryfire But make a joke, have a giggle, play a wee SAFE trick on a colleague with a GOOD sense of humor and the day won't seem so bad. Trust me if you can lighten the day for the sick people that you care for too, they really can appreciate it; wow it might even help them improve!! Have a great next shift.

Oh Boy
Yeah thanks for that, my thoughts exactly! A bit yuck in the meantime though huh? I feel at times people can waste so much time and energy on things we may not need to do anything about. Of course thats not to say not to stand up for something when its not safe etc. Thanks. like minds.

Oh Boy
Hi there any one in the position of the sinking ship syndrome? We have had a change of leadership on both of our medical wards which join together, there have obviously been lots of changes some good some not so good, but hey thats change right? Trouble is that all the nurses seem to be going against one another, and complain - well we all know that we can gossip but this can all get you down. Forgive me for being old fashioned, but it seems when we don't combine under leadership it seems to make one big mess! Ok I don't think all the changes have been rocket science but look at the bigger picture people? Please can I have some of your opinions - feel a wee bit simple sometimes when I feel that ultimately we are there to help others...?

Comparison of US and UK pay
Hey there, have you considered further a field? I have worked in the uk and loved the experience but can relate to the threads with the one nurse, loads of patients and an HCA. At times very scary! The nurses were all great though!!!! Down under I think we get a similar pay round $27 NZ, for experienced, but standard of living is less. What I like is that we have a RN nurse for 4-5 patients, and this happens most of the time. Of course every country seems to have shortages. Have a nice day!!!!!

IVs.... When will I be good at this?
Hey there, the more the better!! You might actually be better than the last person that tried and the patient will appreciate that, dont be too hard on yourself. Good aseptic technique, then even if you miss you know you've done the best and safest job you can. Well done!
