Males and Technology
Is it true that males are more tech savvy than females, especially in the nursing field? When I was doing my clinicals, I noticed that. You know every unit has this one male nurse who is called for everything...lol...I was wondering if it is just the hospital I was in or pretty much the same across the nation or is it just a general perception?

Male nurse crying!!!
Hi guys, As I was reading one of the posts about this nurse's first encounter of a patient demise and how she couldnt control her emotions and started crying, I became curious of the following: 1. How did you handle such a situation, demise of a patient you cared? 2. Did you cry? If you cried, did you go to a private place and cry while controlling yourself in front of others? If you did not cry, what was your feeling at that time? While I usually do not cry, I believe I would cry if I am deeply affected emotionally but in a private place (I guess it is the male thing in me...lol) Want to hear your thoughts/comments....

Docs yelling at nurses....
Hi guys, I have been reading the several posts about doctors yelling at the nurses. I am wondering: 1. As a male nurse, is it any different? 2. Have you ever had to deal with yelling physicians? If yes, what did you do? How did you deal with it? I read several posts stating from mouthing off to cry in the bathroom (mostly women on how they react). 3. It is my second career moving from a corporate environment with lots of politics. We cannot tolerate such things. A person can be written up for such behaviors. However, me going into nursing, I carry the same habits. I cannot put up with such behaviors. I am just wondering how to prepare myself. It is something common and have to learn to deal with it or there are ways to handle it without feeling embarrassed such as involving HR,etc...? The politically correct way that I know is to let the physician know that he doesnt realize that he is yelling and to go to a more private place to discuss it and if he doesnt listen, just walk away from him (ignore him). Please enlighten me with your experiences and advises....

Aesthetic project for school
Hello everyone, I am looking for some ideas for this aesthetic project that I have to do for school. I have no idea what I am going to do. Just trying to see if you guys have any ideas on how to incorporate art in all aspects of caring and how can it be demonstrated? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time...

Drug names and dosages
Thank you guys for all the responses. It definely helps. Piperglen, I am a chemistry graduate too. Love it but it's been so long (graduated in 94 with BS, never used it) that if you ask me formula of water, I will think twice...anyways, yes that is how I am trying to study, first by class and then the drugs. Are there any websites that lists in an outline form listing classes and their primary mechanisms of action and then examples of drugs and common uses? I can type it on my own but was wondering if it is already out there, why not use it....

Changing careers but discouraged by a failed student
First of all you can see how ignorant this lady is. You should never ever take advice from ignorant people. My question is why are you even talking to her about your career and if she talks politely say that you are not interested in discussing this topic. You should go to someone who knows what they are talking about. Every individual is different. Obviously it is a matter of being jealous because she is not as smart as you are. She is looking at her failure and convincing herself that truly it is not her that failed but the career is difficult. Please dont get influenced by her. Yes, it takes hard work and time, but that is true for any field to be successful, especially nursing, because it is a professional course. That doesnt mean that you cannot do it. I say go for it and prove yourself. It is another inspiring factor for you to succeed. Because the satisfaction from an accomplished task is doubled or tripled when people say you cannot do it. I am in my first semester, it was my 2 cents.

Thank you Indiana Dan. That really helps. It helps to know that we will be seeing those drugs again and again and not just in Pharm class. Thank you for your time.

Drug names and dosages
Guys, I am in the first semester of nursing and am taking pharmacology. I am overwhelmed with the number of drugs that are available. As I am able to study and grasp all the drugs and do well in the quizes (which really means nothing according to me grades dont matter if you cannot retain what you studied), I am unable to retain all of it for a long time. Like if anyone questions me about something I studied in 2005 (for example Kreb's cycle in A&P), I will not be able to explain well what it is. How do you guys retain your stuff. I guess this question is directed to mostly for final semester students in nursing as you will be preparing for NCLEX. Retaining knowledge and applying is the key element to any field. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Hope to get some responses... Ladies, this question is not just for men, anyone can answer. Since this is the first forum I visited, I didnt really care to go to general forum...

Getting to know the men behind the names...
Hi guys! I am 33 (a little older than many of you but see some of my age as well). It is my second career. Have a degree is Chemistry but of no use. Have been in the medical transcription industry for 10+ years but more on the technical side of it as a liasion between operations and IT, worked in various capacities mostly management. As you know anything in technology can be outsourced, was lookign for a secure career. Originally, wanted to be a doctor, but because of financial situation and time, I couldnt and now I am a father of 2 girls, busy busy. Apart from safe, secure future in nursing, the deep satisfaction of helping someone has drawn me to this field. Money will be the same for me more or less. Nursing informatics will be a best suit for me because of my tech background in computers and clinical background now that I am studying......I am currently a nursing student in first semester (just got accepted this semester). Glad to join this forum. Btw, this is my first posting....
