What is the GPA needed to get in Miami dade College
You can't boost your GPA with classes that aren't prerequisites. They only look at the GPA for the classes that are required. The 2 are separated. I know this for a fact. I graduated from this program last December and over the course of 2 years I became good friends with many of the professors. I've had many conversations with them about the selection criteria because it is so misunderstood. If you could boost your GPA with other classes, then people would take easy electives to make up for not so great grades in core classes like Chem, A&P, etc...I'm sorry guys but that just doesn't work. I was accepted into the Fall program of 2008, my GPA was a 4.0. The selection committee looking at applicants for the 09/10 weren't going to accept anything lower than a 3.8. There are too many applicants in the pool each year. If 2000 people apply and they only have room for 400. They are only going to take the top 400. They have to, so that they can stay accredited. Hope this cleared up some misconceptions. Good luck guys!

Work in USA
LMAO, ghillbert "I guarantee you couldn't do my job." Wow honey, you ARE classy aren't you. The epitome of a Nurse. And calling me vile. I was stating facts and now you resort to name calling. Shameful. We usually don't use those tendancies in the United States. Maybe they do in your foreign country. lol.

Work in USA
Chantelle, Funny that you must not live here and certainly don't know any facts about being a Registered Nurse in the United States. I don't know where you are from and I trully don't care. We are NOT short of Nursing positions here in the USA. Nobody is hiring right now b/c our economy is suffering terribly. There are thousands of Nurses currently seeking work and they can't find it. Why should American hospitals hire FOREIGNERS when they can hire AMERICANS first. I don't know why the word Foreigner bothers you so much. People who aren't from here are FOREIGN. Look it up. If you are sick of people "whining" and you are sick of the people you meet in your travels, then do us all a favor and STAY HOME!

Work in USA
There aren't enough jobs right now for Americans. We can't continue to hire foreigners. You should stay in Brazil. Too many Americans need jobs right now.

MDC NURSING PROGRAM
Best thing to do is write down all your questions the night before and take them w/ you on a piece of paper so that you don't forget anything. MDC's Advisors usually aren't the best.......But, you really have to try and go through one to get the info you need. Good luck.

NEW GRAD Starting at Nursing Home for Experience, Good or bad?
i just graduated in december. i haven't even taken my nclex yet. but, when i do start looking for my 1st job, hopefully in the next few months. is it a good idea or bad idea to try and gain some experience in a nursing home before i try and dive right into a hospital? i am asking this especially b/c the hospitals in my area (miami) are all requiring at least 1 yr experience and also b/c i don't feel completely confident yet in my skills to be thrown on a floor. so, any advice about this topic would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much.

MDC - LPN to RN Online
I am currently a MDC RN Nursing Student. I am in my 4th semester and I will graduate next month. I don't know much about the bridge or transition programs. I am in the Generic program. But, I do know that the cutoff for the last class that was chosen was a 3.8. I am the one who originally posted that information on this website. I am friends w/ one of my professors at the college who told me this. I'm not sure if the standards are the same for bridge/transition. I know it's frustrating to call the college and ask questions. They aren't very helpful but, if I can answer anything let me know.

need some help.
I agree, you can't be a nurse and try to skirt around Math, it is just part of the job description.....Just start taking remedial courses until you learn what you need to learn

Jackson Training Center in Homestead Fl.?
I live in Homestead but, I know nothing about this place nor have I ever heard of it. I am going to Nursing School at Miami Dade at the Homestead campus to become a RN. Have either of you looked into doing that? Or that is just not what you want to do?

Miami dade college finish in 1 year!?!?
I am in the generic program in 4th semester. I will graduate in 3 months...I can tell you now that unless you are very good in sciences.....AND I MEAN AWESOME!!! It would not be smart for you to take 2 sciences together. I took all of my sciences separate....Granted, it took a very long time but I got an A is EVERY SINGLE CLASS...That is why I got accepted. If you try and pack it in just to make the process go faster, then you take a chance of making less than an A in your pre-reqs. And If you don't have a high enough GPA....It doesn't matter how smart you are or how bad you want to be a nurse, MDC will not except you. I just spoke with one of my professors and she told me that a 3.8 was the Lowest GPA that was taken for the class that just started in August. I had a 4.0 when I applied. I know it kind of sucks doing it the slow route...But, if you take on more than you can handle, you can't go back and fix it. Good luck!!
