  1. New England Practical School of Nursing is a legit school. They are accredited as well. I'm graduating in December. It's a tough program but with good instructors. Hope that helps.
  2. Ahhhh...let's vent. 1. Don't get mad when someone does well. They probably earned it. 2. This isn't high school, let's act like professionals.....enough said here. 3. Gossiping about others only makes you look like bad....refer back to #2. 4. Don't complain about the workload...it is nursing school afterall!
  3. Thank you...I understand exactly what you're saying. I appreciate you taking the time to explain. :)
  4. my thougnts on the 'risk for infection' were for respiratory infections, possible skin infection due to breakdown due to immobility. my interventions will certainly incorporate care for preventing these types of infections. tcdb, reposition qh, etc... i'm just looking for an appropriate timeframe. my thinking was that the time frame should be daily or every shift seeing that this pt. is totally immobile. i am thinking that his contracture limits his mobility and due to the limited mobility..this person could end up with respiratory problems/infections. the patient does not currently have an infection. i'm just trying to prevent one due to his immobility. cardigan2
  5. I have a question regarding care plans. How do you come up with reasonable time frames for your outcomes/goals? For example.. Nursing dx; Risk for infection r/t immobility as evidenced by contractures. Longterm goal; Maintain skin integrity as evidenced by the absence of skin breakdown..(here is where the instructor wants to see a time frame). My first thought is to put 'each shift'. "Maintain skin integrity as evidenced by the absence of skin breakdown during each shift". Would this be an appropiate time frame to list? Thanks everyone :) Cardigan2
  6. I'm an LPN student who is hoping to continue on for my RN...I have been researching the LPN-RN advanced placement programs in my area. One local college requires that you test of out the first year..ACE exam. Does anyone know anything about the ACE (Acceleration Challenge Exam I -Book One: Foundations of Nursing) exam? I went to the Excelsior website to see what sort of study material was available and had no luck finding any. Thanks Cardigan2
  7. thank you daytonite. i'm a new student nurse and this information is going right in my binder! cardigan2
  8. I just found one at Marshal's (Olpymia) for $10.00. So, even if I don't need it for NS...I am not out a whole lot of $$$. Gotta love a deal :) Cardigan2
  9. How do you like it so far? I can't decide on one of those or a rolling backpack. I want one large enough to carry my books/misc. items/ and lunch :) ! Thanks Cardigan2
  10. I would think that you'd take 30% off the original price...and then 15% off the sale price...Otherwise, you get a difference answer then if you were to take 45% off the original price.
  11. I just started the same program last night... Goodluck :) Cardigan2
  12. It might have been HCTA in Manchester NH. They offer LNA, LPN and other programs. There webpage is blue. Cardigan2
  13. Try to remember the prefixes Kilo-Hecto-Deca-[unit]-Deci-Centi-Milli =1 Kilometer, 10 hectometers, 100 dekameters, 1000 meters =10,000 decimeters, 100,000 centimeters, 1,000,000 millimeters. You can remember the order of prefixes with this mnemonic King Henry Doesn't (Usually) Drink Chocolate Milk. You move from one prefix to the next by moving the decimal point. ex. Convert 12.54 kilometers to centimeters If you look above, starting at kilo, there are 5 spaces between kilo and centi. Kilo to centi goes from left to right...so move your decimal to the right. Answer: 1254000 cm If you are converting Milli to hecto...you'd move the decimal from right to left. Ex. Convert 457 mL to hL You are going to move the decimal 5 spaces left. Answer: 0.00457 hL Hope this was helpful Cardigan2
  14. Kukuajoo, I'm not sure about transferring credits...however, I know that for the LPN to RN programs..you test out of Nursing I & II..or take tests that show you have the skills to enter the program..they may vary depending on the school. The pre-reqs are not transferrable w/o accreditation. Cardigan2
  15. Are you still in need of notes? I think I can help. Cardigan2
  16. I had to respond to this. I found the same thing HTmommy. The receptionist was not forthcoming with information. I felt that I had to ask a ton of questions just to get the basics from her. How frustrating! Cardigan2
  17. The program is Clinical Career Training....the facility where clinicals were done..Goldenview in Meredith NH. Hope that clears it up. Cardigan2
  18. Just practice your skills. The training was good...the facility was ok. The only pointer I can give is to read the chapters assigned and practice what skills you can. Also..use vicks or a scented oil and rub a little under your nose during clinicals...helps with smells. Goodluck! Cardigan2
  19. I received my LNA training through them. The owners of the company are very nice. Training was done at a facility in Meredith NH and I felt prepared when it came time to take the board exam. Cardigan2
  20. Thanks for sharing that information. That is not bad for only a year of training. Congrats on graduating!!! You must be nervous and excited! Any pointers for us new LPN students? I'm nervous about the pharmacology math. Cardigan2
  21. Have you taken any math courses recently? You may want to find out if you can take the math portion of the NLN again, and prior to taking it..enroll in a math class. There are many tutorial sites online as well. As far as A&P goes, it is a lot of memorization. Maybe you just need to find study habits that work best for you. I'm currently in A&P II and I do study a lot!!! There is so much information...so I tape the lectures..rewrite notes from class and add notes from my reading of the chapters and I also use online tutorials for topics that I struggle with. Hope this helps Don't give up! Cardigan2
  22. Thanks a good idea..I will call the school :) Cardigan2
  23. Does anyone know about tax benefits for diploma programs? If you pay your tuition or some of it out of pocket can you claim it on your taxes seeing that it is a diploma program vs. a higher degree? Thanks :) Cardigan2
  24. Thank you! Cardigan2
  25. I think it is a great idea that you practiced at home. Do you have any other practice examples that you'd like to share? I'm going to be starting a nursing program in January and I'm very nervous thinking about the clinical part of it all. I do have some left over syringes and gowns from taking care of a sick relative and maybe other supplies as well. Feel free to PM me if you'd rather. Any ideas would be most appreciated :) Thank you Cardigan2
