  1. Ours will be on a computer, is it different- besides I assume you get your grade back right away? Like the other ERi's once you submit the test at the end. Our instuctor said it would take 3 hours!
  2. I too am in the same sistuation as a previous poster- I am using Saunders to study for my ERI exit exam so I will complete step one within a few weeks (exit exam first try scheduled 10/6) and plan to have all ch. complete by then. I've seen so many postings saying they wished they had taken their boards, sooner vs later after nursing school and passing their exit exam. So my goal is to take boards late Dec/ early Jan. But may not get my test date until after thanksgiving, once our nursing director has turned in our names. Will I get a date right away and then would I start Suzzane's plan at that time? Is this too lofty of a goal to think that I can study while still in school, I see people working already and studing for boards... And I guess I have to wait until whenever I have a test date to begin phase two of the plan?? I just do not want to waste any time and want to make sure I understand the rules... thanks for any insight and advise as I begin my last semester!!! It all seems so close but some giant hurdles ahead and I just want to make sure I tackle them the best way possible... and learn from your experiences and wisdom
  3. for those of you that have already taken the ERI- Exit exam any study tips?? We have to pass it to graduate- we get three tries but I would like to have it behind me early on and not have to worry about it. First attempt is on 10/6. So those that did well- did you study?? Take pratice tests? We have been doing the CAP test for each class- ex peds, mental health, etc and I have passed on the first try for each- although some were close! So I want to be prepared and only have to take this thing once! Any input or advice would be helpful. Also, I am studing for NCLEX too, mostly doing Saunders so then I can get Suzzane's plan. I have been using Saunders all through school and just wondering what other books, if any you guys found helpful- some more them others help with passing ERI and NCLEx? Thanks in advance for any input and advice!
  4. First, congrats to those of you that passed can't wait to be in your shoes and an RN!!!!! Thought you guys might be able to help me out. I bought the Saunders comprehensive review for NCLEX- RN (3rd edition) online used. Thought it came with the CD and it did not! So now I am in search of a CD. If you have one and are willing to pass it on to me, I would be very greatfull!! Thanks RNs!

  6. I'm also in CV! I know of all places people can be from it's cool to hear people talk about the area. As soon as you gave the #s I knew I had missed the same lottery as you had, I was thinking that Chabot was going to be my first choice- just on price alone and then while waiting for the letters to come in SM became my first choice! I figured the money was worht the great education, would be a faster program to RN (about 15 months get RN part Dec 2008) and then could continue on to a masters. Which I guess turned out to be a good thing. Going into the whole process I thought I would get into Chaobt and SM would have been the long shot- so it just goes to show you you never know. If you have any SM questions or what program to apply to let me know. I am in the ELMSN- case management track starting for fall 2007. But I also have friends in the ABSN and 2+2. I've also taken several of my pre- reqs online, which has helped b/c I have two kids. Not sure if you have a bs or ba in something else? If not then the 2+ 2 is the one you would go with . Good luck, Rachel
  7. Hello, Have you looked into Ohlone? They have a Jan 2008 start time so you may want to apply for that program. I think when I looked into it they take application's in October. I was going to apply this year, not looking forward to the commute but wanted to keep my options open but I got accepted at Samuel Merritt the day of my required advising appointment. I think by 2008 they may be in thier new newark location? SM also have a 2+ 2 program that starts in Jan 2008, you may want to check them out too. It is very pricey, but I have heard very good things from those that are in the program and if you can get in somewhere Jan 2008 you will be working as an RN that much sooner! With your great GPA, you would have a great chance getting into SM 2+2 program. Not sure what pre- req you would need, some are a bit different than a traditional BSN program. Check out the website. They do accept 20 people from their non- feeder schools and may have more spots if the individual's from the feeder schools do not have a high enough GPA (3.0), which I have heard is happening! Just thought I would throw some other ideas out there. If you want any more info, fill free to email me. I also was not chosen for the lottery at Chabot and was shocked since I too am in the district! So do not be too hard on yourself, it's natural to think positive. And I have had a few friends that did not get in their first shot (this was before they started doing the first pool, w/i district only) and are now RNs so do not give up... It will happen.... and who knows what is in store for you now! Maybe something you never thought of and maybe a BSN is the right place for you- Good luck! Had to chime in since I'm so close in proximity to you!!!
  8. I'm sorry to hear about being wait listed but I would not give up hope, especially so early on! What # are you? I'm taking an online class with someone that had applied to SMs ABSN program. She was waitlisted as 57 (not sure which campus though?) Anyway she found out two weeks later that she was in so I would not give up hope. I think people are still making decisions and not everyone that got letters will accept. I have a friend that is currently in the progam and she had told me when I was interviewing that several people in her class were from the wait list (Although she is doing the CM track so I'm not sure if that info is accurate for FNPs also. Good luck!!!!
  9. Thanks for the great tip about the book, I went to Amazon.com and found a used one- it's on it's way to me! It also got lots of great reviews on Amazon. Another book I found that I bought (in prep for my summer accelerated course) A Pharm book: Lippincott's illustrated review. - also got great reviews. It was adviced over the incredibly easy series??? I have gotten other study aids and it is nice for a review and to get the laymans version also and helps straighten things out after a complicated lecture or sometimes I have even used it as a pre- read of what to expect on the upcoming topic. So thanks I was trying to get by this time without getting additional books but for this subject- I think anything that helps is worth it!
  10. Anyone taking an online Pathophysiology class? I'm taking it at University of Iowa. I like it a lot so far but I am not sure how to study for the midterm and final. There is so much info and the test will only have 50 multiple choice questions. There is only 310 points possible for the course so every point counts and I want to do well. (90 points give for 9 written assignments based on lesson question) So anyone take this course and could lead me in the right direction for the tests? Any study tips recommended or that helped you in other patho classes? I have heard about concept mapping and it sounds really great, but we are not using that, I've heard that's the best way to learn patho- too bad this teacher is not using it! The instructor stated that the test questions will come from Ch. outlines that were supplied. But that is a ton of information and I have also filled it in will a lot of info too!!! Any tips that helped you study patho would be greatly appreciated!- Thanks Yes, it is just as detailed as AandP for the previos poster! There is so much info!!! especially what is happening on a cellular level- who knew so much was involved! I do like it a lot though! I am taking this class as a pre- req online and find it a little difficult just because I it would be nice to have some clinical application and be actually seeing some of the stuff that is being talked about book knowledge vs actual experience!

  12. I did not get a phone call from SM, I just found the big yellow envelope in my mailbox at 1am, last tuesday!!! I'm in and out all day long so not sure if they tried to call first, but you could get a welcome, unexpected envelope in the mail also. Good luck! Rachel
  13. Congrats Berkeleymom! Looking forward to meeting you- Rachel
  14. Hello, I haven't had a chance to follow the thread since my first posting about interviews at SM. I've caught up on the post and boy you ladies have been busy! So I thought I would update and now I have news to share also. I just received an acceptance letter in the mail yesterday from SM for the ELMSN - CM program. I have accepted and sent in my deposit. Congrats to all the others that have accepted and good luck to those that are still waiting. And for those that are still interviewing- the best adivce, that has been given, already is be yourself. But also be prepared and have some set answers ready for the given questions like: why do you want to be a nurse, strengths, weakness etc. You may fill silly but practice out loud, it really helps and made me fill less nervous when I had to answer them in the interview. Although the case management interview was more like a conversation as an earlier post had mentioned- very different from what I was expecting! I would love to hear from others that will be starting Spring 2007 SM - either CM of FNP, since we will be together for the first year and a half.
