  1. Katsie- I have yet to submit my full package to Creighton. If you don't mind, can you PM me so we can discuss what you submitted. I was filling the app and got stuck on ther personal statement. I should be finishing all that up within the next 2 weeks or so. I'd love to discuss how quick they went through your app and package. Thanks for you response! p.s. I don't live in AZ, i'm actually from Miami, Fl.
  2. Hi, I'm not a male but I was curious on how your studies are going at Creighton. Hopefully, I will be starting the ACC program in Jan 2011 and needed someone's insight. If you don't mind please share your experience so far. I have many questions: Rigors of the course load? Financial aid/planning? How much study time is needed? To work or not to work? THanks!
  3. Who knows?! I applied to the transitional program, so I'm not sure if they send their letters at the same time. If they do, you should be receiving a letter this week. I was told they mailed them out a few days ago. Good Luck! Hopefully you're in!
  4. Thank you for your vote of confidence...It means a lot. I am bummed but I am so lucky in other aspects that I can't really let it get me down. I've already started re-arranging my plans and Life is Good! Plus, I always have that snowball's chance... Thanks again for your support! ~Lu Baghdad
  5. Well I just got word that the letters were mailed out and I am NOT on the initial batch. Actually, Im 13th on back-up. Sigh! Obviously, I am not optimistic. I cant imagine a situation where 13 applicants would refuse to attend. So..it's back to the ol' drawing board, I suppose. I will set my views on the August term and see what happens. until then, I will remain overseas and make my money and take some more classes. Thanks to all that offered your insight. ~Lu Baghdad
  6. Thanks again. Luckily, I have all my vaccinations and records. My mother is one of those parents that kept everything important in its original form. Plus, Ive been through medic school and work in environments where proof of vaccinations have to furnished frequently. The PPD information is extremely helpful because I can get that done here, easily. Thanks. I have a lot of time on my hands here, so all I think about is school and planning for the day I get accepted. I know there is possibility that I may not, but I prefer to stay optimistic. If and when I am accepted, I will have to rush to get out of here. Pack my stuff, quit my job, fly across the Atlantic, re-unite with my family etc. It's a lot to do when you factor in that this news may come in at the end of Oct and the semester starts in Jan (not to mention that nothing gets done at Xmas break time). Sooo, I guess what Im trying to say is that the more "little" things I can get out of the way the better and smoother this transition will be for me. Thanks again Southern Ash.... Please feel free to share any other important information, concerns or even gripes!! All is welcome.
  7. hey thanks for the info. This is exactly what I was looking for. Could you elaborate on the 2 PPDs. I work in an occupational health clinic (in Iraq) so I am familiar with the PPDs, but why two? Also, in what intervals do they want them in. Are the vaccines you mentioned all we'll need? It would be very helpful to know exactly since I would be able to get those taken care of before I leave here. As for the 5 panel drug test, where would you go get one of those done? We do those here but due to the sensitivity of the test, I know they will not accept just "any" test. Aside from that, I guess I will stash away the 55 bucks for the background check. Although I have not been accepted yet, I like to be prepared. Especially since the transition I have to make will be a large one. I want to get as much of the small stuff out of the way. Thanks again!
  8. Hi there, Hope all is well in Nursing Land. I am still anxiously waiting the letter from Miami Dade College. I haven't the slightest idea on when they are supposed to mail them out but I would assume it is soon. The semester is supposed to start early January so I would think they would have to send them out at least by November right? Anyone out there have any experience or insight on this? I know the Fall Semester ends on December 18 and campus is closed during that time; so that closes the window in even further. Also, for those of you currently in your first semester, would you be able to provide me with the list of books that are required for the 1st semester. I purchased a Nursing Fundamentals book (because it was cheap on eBay) to get some pre-emptive reading done. I would appreciate if I got a feel of what the book situation was going to look like. Also, any insight on what to expect from the "Orientation" (im thinking positively here!) would be helpful. Thanks again to those of you that continue to provide valuable advice and/or insight on this forum. Your attention is greatly appreciated! ~Lu :heartbeat Baghdad
  9. Hi sorry for the delay but Ive been wrapped in other things. I will look for the guide and let you know how many pages. It's basically one of those books that teaches you how to take the test more effectively. As for the actual, nursing content you may be able to find that in a Nursing fundamentals book. I am a Medic and a lot the patient assessment stuff was easy but I was in the dark about the "Nursing process". If I were you, Id study that.
  10. Have you explored the possibility of MDC's Online nursing program. It may not be your ideal choice, but it is something to explore if you are ever pushed to the point of HAVING to stay home. Just a thought.
  11. Nice to finally to hear that someone has applied for the same semester. Have you finished your NRG 051? If so, how was it? Would you be so kind as to send me a Private Message when you hear from the school. That way I know that they are sending out letters. I am so far away and curious as to how they will announce who is in (letters, email, phone call etc). Have you been able to get any word on how many applied for this term. I really hope we get in, I so ready to get back to "civilization" and my family. Please feel free to contact me. ~Lu baghdad
  12. Go Coasties! My brother is a CWO in the USCG. Been in 23 years. Sweet, sweet career. All the military boys over here are always jealous. Sure beats the dust and sand in Iraq. I am still waiting to hear from MDC. I applied for the Transitional program and the deadline just passed on Sep 1. So, it's the waiting game. Im trying not to pull my hair out. It is just so frustrating to want to make that next move in your life but finding it completely out of your control. *Sigh* Has anyone else applied or heard from the Transitional program (Jan 09)? ~Lu
  13. Try CCConline.org they have a vast number of online sciences with labs. Good Luck!
  14. Well the deadline for Jan semester already passed. It was Sep 1st 2008. Maybe August? i think the deadline for that one is in May.
  15. I have a study guide geared specifically for the NACE. I cost me over 60 on the web. I'd be willing to sell it to whoever is interested..going rate $50. if not, Im putting it on eBay!
  16. What semester are you looking what applying for? You can apply and have these 2 items pending. You have to have the NACE in by the deadline but that gives you plenty of time for the Aug 2009 class. Plus, if you have everything else done, these 2 reqs are the easiest to finish. Nace test takes about 2-3 hours and the NRG class is only 5 classes.
  17. So, How did you do on the test? I am assuming you have already taken it since the deadline is rapidly approaching. Have you any word on when they will be letting us know who is accepted? Have you gotten any insight on how many have applied for this specific program? I am sick to my stomach thinking an waiting for the acceptance (or denial ) to this program. How are you preparing? Also, did you take your NRG 051 class? If so, how was it? Let me know! ~Lu baghdad
  18. Hello akspudus, Thanks for the insight above. Ever since i first read this post, Ive been purchasing the books you mentioned to get some early reading done. I am still stationed overseas so I have plenty of time to read as the days drag on. I was wondering about these ATI books... What exactly are they and are they "given" to you or do they come at a hefty price? Are they made by MDC or can they be purchased/searched on the web for a cheaper price. I am a bargain hunter and hate to pay full textbook price and rarely ever do. Are there any other book/supplies etc that MDC "obligate" you to purchase through them? I know scrub tops are mandatory (how much do they run?) .Since I have so much time on my hands to search, would you mind giving me more names of books that you found helpful? Thank you so very much!
  19. Would you be able to share what the book list looks like? I just want to get a general idea. Plus, they are still using the 7th edition of Nursing fundamentals? I just saw an 8th out, i hate that! It always means higher prices. grr
  20. Oops! I also had a question to anyone who has done the BRIDGE program in the past! The NRG 051 Nursing Update Skills Course...must it be completed by the time you apply, or before you begin the program. does anyone know if it is possible to complete it during your first semester? Hmmm
  21. Good Day All, First of all, I'd like to thank those of you that bring real-word advice to this forum. I am currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq so I turn to this forum to get the information that is not offered on the MDC site. So many times you turn to these forum sites and get nothing but a bunch of whining and complaining on how hard something is. I try to not pay attention to any of this, simply because everyone is so different. What may be hard to one student, may be "business-as-usual" to another. I have applied for the Spring Bridge program at MDC. I am also transitioning from being a paramedic. I am very excited and have high hopes on getting accepted. I have had nothing but wonderful assistance from the Nursing advisement staff. They have bent over backwards to assist me via email with all my questions, doubts and worries. This is mind-blowing considering the experience I have had with MDC staff in the past has been abysmal. I have been done with my pre-reqs for a while and just finished my NLN-NACE exam and passed. For those of you medics wondering how you're going to take a test on something you know nothing about, relax! You will do fine if rely on what you have learned about patient assessment through medic school. There were also a lot of questions which pertain to the "nursing process" study that before taking the exam and perhaps you will score better than I did. They state you only need to pass with a 65 to fulfill the requirement. They do not factor your score as a basis of admittance. So basically its "you passed or you didnt". Now, for some of that real word advice. I still have a couple of months in Iraq and at least until Nov until I know if I'm accepted. At any rate, I would like to know if any one has any advice on what kind of supplies I need and the best places to buy them. I understand books change from semester to semester, so I guess we'll leave that until orientation (fingers-crossed)! Would someone be so kind as to walk me through on what to expect from orientation? When does it take place if my program starts in January. What are the uniforms like? Any tricks of the trade any of you possess will be helpful. Are PDAs helpful while being a student at MDC? Any other study techniques that will get the job done? What kind of shoes are required? Any day-to-day advice will be welcomed! Thank you in advance! :typing
  22. Hi, I was interested in knowing of that new hospital had opened in Lakewood. If so, what is it called? Thanks!
  23. Hey Jules! I am a fellow-Floridian who is thinking of moving to CO. I am also a Medic and am trying to start the PM-RN program in Miami. I guess we are in the same boat (you're a few steps ahead), at any rate, would you mind if I picked your brain on a few things?? Send me a PM message. Thanks!
  24. Ok, I live in Miami (where I will be attending ADN program) and my fiance lives in Lakewood, CO. My program is only 1 year long, after which I plan on moving to CO. Honestly speaking, what are the chances of getting hired as a new grad without a BSN? Which are the best hospitals to start my search at? What are the starting salaries like? It seems from the many posts on this site, that Colorado is EXTREMELY competitive. I'm not used to that in Miami. We NEED nurses! I just don't want to live there anymore. I want to live somewhere where I can raise my child peacefully. Miami is not the place. Any advice would be welcome (relocation, schools, tuition reimbursement, sign-on bonuses) ANYTHING! Thanks in advance!
