  1. i got accepted into concorde here in san diego and was supposed to start in sept of 08, the total price was 35,000 and i decided not to go, i went back to the community college and continued working on my pre-reqs, i'll be dont this summer and then take it from there. honestly i dont think i would consider concorde, if i were going the vocational way, i would look at marics lvn program
  2. does oregon accept rns from excelscior?
  3. All of those stories are bad. Here,I have one as well. I know a woman who is a home health aid.Sorry idf this gets a little long, but its worth reaing.Anyways she has 2 patients. One is a 15 year old boy,who has a slight disorder.Im not sure of exactly what is wrong with him(maybe mild retardation or something like that?,im not sure). So he goes to school for 4 hrs p/day and then she keeps him for the other 2-3 hrs until his mom is off work. She treats him awful! Some examples:He messed himself one day with a bowel movement and she yelled at him and then marched him to the back of the house, told him to take off all of his clothes and then proceede to hose him down. How could you treat another human being like that?Ive also witnessed her hit him on several occasions. She brings him to her house, which i guess is ok with the boys mom,as long as hes home by a certain time. The thing is she doesnt let the boy inside her house very often, most times he sits on the porch and unsupervised alot of those times. She yells at him like a dog to sit down and if he moves, she will spank him. It makes me so mad 2 c him rocking back and forth on the proch and lonely. If it rains, she will let him in the house,ut he has to stay in the corner. Another disturbing issue is that his mom provides her with 10-15 ollars p/ay 2 buy lunch for her son,but she keeps it for herself. She says he wont be able to tell his mom that he didnt eat, besides they dont pay me enough for this sh*t.I cant stand it any longer,i know i should mind my business but i cant take her treating this boy like he isnt a human being and shes a poor excuse for a home health aie. When i asked her why shes doing it,she said for the money,b/c she makes $2400 p/month and she really doesnt have to work hard,so she will keep her job. I want to report her to the state board before something drastic happens.
  4. i was supposed to start the lvn program at concorde in Oct of this year, but decided against it. Im kin of glad i did b/c 30K is way too much to spend on an lvn program if you dont want to stay at that level. I didnt want to do this, but im going to take the CNA program at Maric and then try for their RN program.Super expensive, but worth it
  5. I recently visited maric college, and i have to admit that i was impressed with the school and its nursing program. Did you know that their lab as recently renovated and they now have ive stimulated practice patients? Sorry if im a litte excited, but their program seems awsome. What didnt seem awesome was the price of the RN program( I was quoted at $ 47,000).Honesty, I think that is way too expensive, but if i was excepted, i would gadly pay the money, b/c in 2 years, you could be an RN and make twice as much to pay that oan off. I also didnt like the admission staff, they seem like pushy sales people. I akso want to earn a BSN, and it is hard to get schools to accept Marics credits, but luckily UoP doe accept them and that is a fuly accredited school. Im seriously considering trying to get in at Maric, but have a little dilema. I got accepted to the LVN program at Concorde to begin Oct08, at 1st i was super excited, but its not exactly what i want,b/c at the end of the day, i still want to be an RN. Im debating whetern to do the VN at Concorde and then do an LVN-RN program or just do my CNA training and then try for the Aug 08 RN program at Maric. Do LVNs get paid around the same as CNAs?Confused, but i think maric is a great school, plus i know a few people who graduated from there and they love itr.
  6. Did you have to work 6months to a year before being able to apply?
  7. Please keep us updated. Im about to begin LPN program and im really considering this school.
  8. University of Phoenix and Kaplan university will accept marics credits and you can transfer into their rn-bsn program
  9. im thinking of going to Maric College or Concorde in San Diego for their LVN program. I see this as my most reasonable atlernative to going to a community college,b/c i feel like im getting nowhere on the waiting list. Has anyone attended either Concorde or Maric? Any advice would be helpful
  10. I've been wondering abot tyese stethoscopes too. What do you all think about electronic stethoscopes?
  11. Have you found any rt to rn bridges yet, b/c i too would be interested, well other than excelsior bc some states dont even recognize a degree from excelsior
  12. i am a current resp. therp student, but i also want to become an rn. actually i got into rep therp,b/c it was my 2nd choice.nursing was my 1st, but where i live in san diego, the waiting lists to the nursing programs are insane. ive decided to get my associated in rt and then transfert to a 4yr school for bsn. anyways, iv been curious if you could work as both oncehaving both liscences or do you guys think the demand is too great from one or both of these jobs to work as both an rn and rt
  13. i am a current resp. therp student, but i also want to become an rn. actually i got into rep therp,b/c it was my 2nd choice.nursing was my 1st, but where i live in san diego, the waiting lists to the nursing programs are insane. ive decided to get my associated in rt and then transfert to a 4yr school for bsn. anyways, iv been curious if you could work as both oncehaving both liscences or do you guys think the demand is too great from one or both of these jobs to work as both an rn and rt
  14. tazzi rn, maybe its just you, ive never had anyone complain about it before and its not meant to offend anyone, seems like you're making a big deal out of nothing. im not shouting at anyone, its just a preference
  15. I TOO AM INTERESTED IN THIS SCHOOL, THE MAIN REASON BEING THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO WAITING LIST(CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG). WHAT WAS YOUR COST FOR ALL FOUR YEARS AND YOUR EXPERIENCE OF GOING TO A SCHOOL OF THIS RELIGION IF IT IS NOT THE SAME AS YOURS. DO YOU OVERALL FEEL AS IF YOU GOT A GOOD EDUCATION AND WERE WELL PREPARED TO BECOME AN RN
  16. if it were me, i would do the rn program 1st, but in your sitution, i would say go for the lpn b/c it seems to be what you want.
  17. i lost 40 lbs within 3 weeks after having my daughter,i ended up staying in the hospital 12 days after the c-section and went home only to return a week later for another postpartum problem and then once i went home i regained to 40 lbs over a couple of months b/c i was eating as if i was still pregnant. now im on medifast (its tough) but the weight is coming off. i only wish i had of done this sooner
  18. If It Were Me, I Think That I Would Get At Least 3-4 Years Of L&d Experience And Then Go For Nurse Midwife And Then You Can Be More Skilled And Confident.
  19. i know a few nurse midwives and a couple of them said they got in a few years experience in L&D then became midwives, one got in only a year and started her schooling for it which took 19 months, and one who didnt even work L&D, but ent to school for nurse-midwife. hope that helps
  20. is kaplan a regionally accreditted school and what is the total cost to attend their rn to bsn program?
  21. Congrats on becoming a new rn. you are so where i wish i were, right now, so please dont become discouraged. just take it slow and you should take the 1st job that comes to you, just so that you can have some type of experience(maybe it wont be the type you want, but it will be useful) and while you are working just kep filling out applications and following up as you have been for the job you really want/ wish you the best!!!:balloons:
  22. so you are basically saying that accreditation isnt important to you? I mean if all you want is an adn, then maric is perfect, you can get in and out, but what happens if you want to further your education? where would you go, besides university opf phoenix or kaplan, which are very expensive. Also Ive checked with every state and private school in sd and no one excepts those credits from maric. another thing is do you want to go into all of that debt. im with you and i wish it were that easy to just go to a school, become an rn and be the best.
  23. i know that its not a traditional school, but after getting your adn from Maric, you couldgo to university of phoenix, i know its expensive as well, but i dont know of any other 4 year schools that will acceptcredits from maric.
  24. I am thinking of going to schoolto become a rt, b/c i'm interested in it. However, nursing is my 1st love. Do you think its possible to get an associates in resp. therapy & then a bachelors in nursing,or do you think its better to just go the adn route?
