Thanks to all that replied with their thoughts. An update for me... I talked to my nurse manager and told her how I was feeling. She said she would give me the "ok" to transfer before my 6 months. I am considering a job as a circulating scrub nurse, but I haven't made up my mind yet. Last night-- 8 patients for me. 8 for the other nurse that was working and we had to call in a float to take the other 7. We had 2 nurses and one tech call off--(hmmm burnout??) One of the nurses who called off was "charge nurse". Ok, so that left just myself and another rather newer nurse. Just an example of the kind of patient load...One child's O2 level kept dropping in the high 80's (85-93), one guy who was receiving constant bladder irrigation, one post-op (complete bowel resection (3 hrs post-op) patient with a PCA. Somehow I feel that I am going to have to protect my new license and really consider to transfer. One of our rather scarier surgeons :bowingpur came up in the am to check on his post op patient. He saw the mess we were dealing with and called and demanded our scheduler more help. He commended us for the good job we had done. Somehow I feel my manager should have been there to help. I mean...this is just not safe practice!!!!

If some doctors weren't so unapproachable, communication would be so much better. At our hospital, our hospitalists are very overworked and have draining schedules. But, I get so sick of being treated like a subordinate. Just the other day I sat and listened to a doctor rant about film taken by radiology that was a incorrect view from what the doctor wanted. No, it wasn't the nurses who put the order in wrong, it was the radiology tech who read the order wrong. Finally after repeating himself for the 20th time that he was sitting and waiting for a film that was taken wrong- I asked him if there was anything else he needed. I swear they just want someone to yell at and I won't take it. *I do say some doctors because not all of them are like that.

I have been there 3 months-probably only 2 if you discount orientation. I work on a pediatric/adult floor. One hall is only for peds. So very often I have 7 patients (3 peds, 4 adults). Peds make me even more nervous! Anyway, I find myself looking over the job opportunities within the hospital everyday. My nurse manager said she would support my transfer if I was not happy and she said it happens a lot. I precepted in surgery and really loved it. I took a med surg position so I would have that basis of knowledge- but it is a really long hard road!

Maybe this is me coming out of my honeymoon period, or maybe I have just realized I made the biggest mistake of my life accepting a job on a med-surg floor. I was just wondering- are there nurses who aren't meant for bedside nursing, meaning who are meant for outpatient procedural type work? I just know- I really do not like my job right now. I am a new nurse just out of hospital orientation and find myself with 7 patients a night. I do not take a break, I do not work less than 14 hours-(from all the charting I have to catch up). I feel unsafe having so many patients and I have told my charge nurse this. I just feel like I have made a big mistake. I am miserable. I talked to my nurse manager and let her know about my feelings and she seemed to understand. I don't know what to do.

My school gave us dosage calculations questions every quarter. We couldn't miss one question. This exact question was given every quarter. gr x is 60x10=600 600/325=1.8 you round to 2 tablets

Thanks to all for a nice place to come for support! Good luck to Barbara and many others who are taking their tests today. Igmirnor- I used NCLEX Review 3000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN by Springhouse. This software really prepared me for the Nclex. The questions included on the software were harder to me than the Nclex itself. With this software, I was able to focus on my weak spots and also hit on some areas that I haven't reviewed in awhile. I would complete mini tests each day and would range from 65%-95%. I had 75 questions on my Nclex and passed. About a week prior to the test, I reviewed my lab values and basic meds. I also borrowed a book called Nclex made easy. It was pretty good, easier than Springhouse but good rationales.

I am feeling for you right now. We all know that you can pass this test. You made it through nursing school and that is a feat itself--ESPECIALLY being pregnant! When you take your next test, you will have a clear mind! I didn't know you were pregnant- I know when I was pregnant it seemed like my test taking skills . What I can say to do is just keep taking practice tests. Take some time to concentrate on your baby- this will be the most exciting thing! I remember I was pregnant and didn't get accepted into nursing school. All my friends were accepted and I wasn't. I was crushed. Now when I look back, I am glad because I had some extra time with my son that I could never have back!

Chocolate- I bet you did just fine!!!!! Your test was much like mine. I know you passed! Anyway, we'll be thinking about you. When do you get to find out? Take it easy today, you deserve it....

Thanks Silver and Pednurse... These last few days have been just unbearable! Pednurse- you will be just fine. I will be keeping tabs-- let us know how you do. I just kept taking tests with my cd-rom over and over. I kept doing those tests until I was getting at least 75% and better. A couple of days before my test I looked over my lab values. 75 questions in 1.5 hrs and I really really felt my questions weren't too bad.

Kemerick-- I know how you feel.. That is EXACTLY how my test went. I kept waiting for my test questions to get really really hard. Now my computer did shut off at 75, but now I am thinking I wished it kept going to prove myself. Anyway, my last question was one the the multiple answer questions. I think I had 4 in all. I seriously doubt I got the last answer right. Maybe many of the last questions are test questions? Trust me I know...it is hard to do anything but keep checking this computer and calling the quick results number! I will keep positive thoughts going your way for a PASS!

My test was a lot like Federal's test. I had 3 to 4 SATA, standard precautions, disease, math-4. I just hope I passed like Federal. Is it true SATA questions are deemed the "passing level" questions?

I was rejected once and then accepted the second time I applied. I was crushed when I was first rejected, but things happen for a reason! I was better able to make it through the program because of changed circumstances.

Don't worry--like I have room to say that, I am a wreck too... Anyway, my friend stopped at 77. She passed.

I understand what you all are thinking as well. I took my test yesterday in Ohio at 8am. I think I had 4 simple math problems.. I did have 4 or 5 of the pick all that apply. I think my last question was pick all that apply. And I KNOW I didn't get that question right. Those are the worst for me. Hopefully those are the "testing" questions? The thing that scares me is that I didn't feel like my other questions were that hard. In the middle of my test I get a nutrition question that was really easy and basic and I was thinking, "well.. I must have just bombed that last question because now I am getting easy questions." I looked a few questions up when I got home and some were wrong and some were right. I have a really good short term memory for what was on tests, not that I test great, but I can really remember what was on them. I just don't know what is considered easy and hard questions. I was an average student.. mostly B's and some A's. My friends that were 4.0 students had more than 75 questions and my test stopped at 75. I was thinking surely with the fact my questions weren't crazy hard that I was going to have more questions than 75. Sorry I am rambling, but I can't stop thinking about this test. I was the first one in the testing room and the first to leave with testing time taking 1 hour and 30 minutes. I looked at the screen at 75 and hit enter and the screen went blank, I was thinking, "that's IT?, I need more questions to prove myself!" I guess I would have felt better if I got 265 questions. I feel like if you get more questions, you were in the running- you weren't failing. babyjulez- After seeing that you have to wait a month for your results, I feel pretty stupid complaining about not getting mine for 3 days. Anyway, it's really hard waiting. I feel like my family is counting on me -- it's been a long haul, many hours, lots of sacrifice! Now it all boils down to 1 test that took 1.5 hours!

I take my test Nov 10th here in Ohio! I am starting to feel really nervous. I haven't been too bad up until today. Good news is everyone I graduated with so far- with the exception of one person- has passed. God, don't let me be the second! Anyway, good luck to everyone! I really think a clear mind and positive thoughts are key.
