  1. Hello fellow NPs, i am a new FNP grad in south Jersey in Burlington County I am looking to connect with other FNPs in my area for conversation and collaboration. It seems in all the discussion boards no one is ever from my area. Hello..... Are you out there???? rw77:singing:
  2. Barinbass Why don't you try to get in to a residency program? They are starting to crop up due to the high demand of FNPs and the issue of no one willing to take on new grads.
  3. I live in NJ and attend University of Medicine and Dentistry. Like I stated in my last e-mail I am in the family nurse practitioner program. FYI nurse practitioners are in high demand right now and will be in bigger demand as the health care reform takes place. I went with family because it is the highest in demand and most versitile but it depends on your area of interest. I took out student loans to finance my education. I plan on working with the underserved when I graduate to get my loans paid off and because I know that's where I can do the most good.. They will pay up to $65,000 for a 2 year commitment. Not a bad deal, so I took out the maximum. Good luck what ever you decide.
  4. Please reconsider going back for your masters degree. I'm doing it right now and have 2 semesters to go. I am going for my Family NP certification. I am single and still work full-time while in school. Like you, I need the benefits along with the income. I'm not saying it has been easy, quite the opposite, but I can't continue what I'm doing in the PACU working 12 hour shifts plus call. I started by taking what I could on-line (which was about a year of it) and for the last 2 years I've had to go to class 1 evening a week. I enjoy the interaction with other students and many of them are also working full-time. All I'm saying is, you are at the cross road. I've been there, which way will you go? rw77
  5. I live in South Jersey and attend UMDNJ for my masters. I have been an RN for 20 years in NJ and have been gainfully employed. It is definetely tuff right now for RN's to get a job, however if RN's hold a BSN they are more employable right now. MY best advise to you is, go for it! It is the best investment of money and time I have ever made. Nursing is my life, not just a job! Once you get a job, stay there for at least 1 year (like it or not) to get your 1 years experience, then you can look for another job if you're not happy with your first one. Good luck to you.
  6. I am currently in an on-line NP program. I also just take 1 class at a time. I took the summer off as well this year. I needed a break! I honestly don't understand how people that work full time can take more than 1 class at a time. It is a lot of work!! And yes a lot of BS, especially the discussion boards. They are ridiculous, everyone just writes a bunch of crap because that's what the instructors want. It's all busy work....who learns anything from that? It's all about finding out what the instructors want and then learning to play the game. I prefer reading the material and writing the papers (leave out the BS). RW :typing
  7. Drexel University online, it is a great well aknowledged school. I am in their ACNP program and it is difficult but doable while working full-time. Good luck!:yeah:
  8. Does anyone know if UMDMJ in NJ requires GRE's?
  9. Hey I wonder how many of graduate students would have chosen a different school from the one their in, if their school required GRE's. I know for me that was a big selling point. I was originally interested in the University of North Carolina, but the GRE's were required. I wonder if GRE's are still required as a transfer student to the same schools that required them if you're transferring from a school that doesn't.
  10. I love the online route, besides saving on gas money to travel to & from school not to mention the travel time itself, I get to sit in my pj's while having an online live class or just doing homework. It is very convenient & it teaches you a lot about technology itself. The internet has such a wealth of information that provides a much richer experience than I could ever expect to get from just a traditional setting alone. ( the only draw backs for me are the distractions from my own weakness to check out my email, facebook or allnurses sites)...its fun though.
  11. Hi tweety, I am in my second semester of school for my MSN, I am going for ACNP...its along road ahead and i take it one semester at a time. We can be our own worst enemy's, I stress everything. I'd be glad to chat with you & compare school horror stories with you. I think we are in about the same stage of the process. I am in an online program at Drexel, how about you? I am currently taking a informatics class. I am suppose to sign up for spring semester and so far I can't pick my poison. I guess tommorroww I will have to choose before they choose for me. Look forward to hear from you.
  12. Drexel University dosn't require GRE's
  13. I am very new to the cath lab as well. I just finished the role of the circulator. I'll be learning the scrubber's role next & I am scared to death. I wish I knew what I was looking at more & felt more comfortable. Everything is so foreign from what I used to do. I was a PACU nurse. I wanted to be challenged, boy did I ask for it! Does anyone know any web sites where I could actually view angiography"s so I could view vessels & occlusions. I can't tell when there's a stent...or grafts. I know some medical sites charge a member's fee. Does anyone know of any free sites. I need help...I'm over whelmed!
