I just started the 25th also. This is going to be very different as I haven't taken any classes since I graduated a few years ago. Good luck to all!

Alarmism??
An article I found and I thought the website's choice of a title was uncalled for. Just curious about your opinion. I feel bad for anyone going through this, I don't think the title fits though . Thanks http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/05/01/ep.avoiding.infection/index.html

Male nurse crying!!!
Man, I can relate to that all too well!! The only time I have gotten teary eyed at work was when my 14 y/o trauma patient died. We tried everything to save this kid but he was gone. The hard part was when the parents showed up and they were both emotional wrecks. My heart went out to them. It was the toughest thing I have been through at work.....

TNCC Class
Just took TNCC this past Friday. nene is right, just know your A-I assessment steps and you will be fine. The written test is out of the book and is common sense, critical thinking stuff. I passed the written test with a 100% and i passed the stations from knowing the assessment steps. Good luck to you

use of ED tech/UAP/CNA in ED
in the ed i work in the techs are very much a part of the team. they all have to be trained emt's to work in the ed, but they also do ekg's, draw labs, assist with combative pt's, assist the rn's when possible, they stock the ed with supplies, they make sure the trauma bays are fully stocked, they go with the rn to the helipad to assist bringing down a trauma pt, they set up the suture equipment for the doc's, they splint pt's limbs, and i am sure there are the things i haven't mentioned. good luck in your future endeavors.

scrubs
I bought the SCRUBS brand at www.smartscrubs.com and I can't complain about the fit or the color selection. I just have the solid colors, no prints. These scrubs are soft and comfortable with lots of pockets(so no fanny pack needed, LOL). Good Luck

Nursing student tips for ER
"if you give 40mg IV of lasix to a CHF exacerbation, offer to put in a foley (if pt needs it), and empty it and let the RN know the output after a while (or when it's full). Don't forget to grab a sample if the patient needs a UA! Never empty a foley until you KNOW you don't need urine out of it - trust me." Just to add regarding the urine sample, know if you need to do a urine pregnancy test before the patient voids or you empty the foley bag. I know this from experience...LOL :icon_cheesygrin:

Gloves Necessary For SQ Injections?
I was taught in nursing school to always wear gloves for any type of injection. I always were gloves while giving SubQ, IM or any possible blood producing intervention. Just a matter of protecting oneself.
