Benefits at Vanderbilt
I have been doing some research for Vanderbilt as I am looking too. The tuition is after 6 months. For dependent tuition coverage, it is now 3 years. I am also curious about hourly rate. I have 12 years experience.

Run get it...scrub tech student!
Unless you work in the OR, you can't understand. Some people need to be knocked down a peg or two and this won't lead to them not responding or they won't have a job! Great one! There are a few I would like to do that too!

Best shoes for OR??
To be honest, I have tried so many different types of shoes and still have not found one that is comfortable enough! Crocs absolutely killed my feet. I have had Dansko's for awhile and they hurt my feet too. I have also tried several types of running/walking shoes and can't find anything I really like. I just suffer with my Dansko's, I don't want to spend anymore money on shoes!

Contract tips
I am just wondering if there are any travel companies anyone recommends highly? I am new to this and there are so many! I will be traveling by myself, prefer to stay by myself and would like the ability to travel home on my days off. I currently work in the operating room and can do PACU also. Thank you for any information!:loveya:

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
It's funny because over the last year I have wondered the same thing!! I hate my profession right now, the lack of respect, the feelings of helplessness to do anything to change it, the backstabbing, the crappy pay and health benefits. I work at a hospital in east tennessee in the operating room. The managment is terrible, like a horribly dysfunctional family. If you have any complaint you are basically told to stuff it and if you attempt to go up the chain of command it is always ignored and put back to the person with the least power and ability to do anything about it. The people who do the least get rewarded the most in this hospital. I am currently looking for a new job, probably agency. At least that way I can make more money for the BS I have to put up with. As soon as my son graduates from high school, my husband and I are moving the heck outta here, this place is backwoods as far as treatment....disrespect, good ol' boy dealings. I just wish we could get more respect with better pay, is that so much to ask? I am beginning to think it is. I tell everyone who will listen to not get into nursing.

Bossy Unit Clerks
Yes, I think unit clerks are like that everywhere, we have one in particular that will not finish an entire admit if it interferes with her cig break or it is soon time for her to leave. Another one refused and yelled at me in the hallway that she would change the room number for a patient because it would take too much time, well we use computers. Needless to say I felt forced to write her up. Oh well!! we get along fine after 2 months of the cold shoulder, we get along fine. I am a new gal to ICU all around and she felt she could push me around and learned the hard way!!
