Universal coverage for pregnant women and children = 9 days of DOD spending
Oh, sorry you are right...I meant to say "socialist" countries - Welfare states with 50%+ taxes across the board...if one like that type of thing, said person can always move to such a country. I never said I am not biased....Of course I am biased, I am pro capitalist, pro freekmarket, PRO AMERICAN first... Have you ever been to New York? I guess not...do you know what New York State medicaid is? Obviously not, can you explain to me why someone who is unemployed gets full medical, dental, vision benefits while people with full time jobs have to pay $200 a month for health insurance that sucks? Or worse, working people don't get health insurance at all because their employer does not offer it....I dont have a problem with giving health insurance to people as long as THEY HAVE A JOB and contribute to society...Socialist policies and welfare create laziness and sloth look at the GDP's of socialist countries...LIke I said, if one likes that type of system one can move to say...FRANCE and that individual can pay 55% taxes and get free "preventative" healthcare.

Info: Where can I go to get health care regardless of my ability to pay?
just go to new york, as long as you are jobless you are guaranteed new york state medicaid. you can get full vision, dental and medical benefits, just make sure you dont get that job!!! once you start working for a living you are not entitled to health insurance.

No one hates the rich? Are you sure about that? Its a pretty broad statement. You talk about the Rich getting tax break while the poor guy gets screwed. Actually I know a single woman with 8 kids, she has a 4 bedroom apartment in Manhattan(section 8 housing) that she pays $120 a month for, she does not pay for food because she has government assistance. She had all the furniture in her apartment paid for, it is nice stuff 2.....I think she got like $12,000 back on her taxes...she goes to best buy every weekend and buys DVD's because she has no expenses, only disposable income...of course at the expense of my tax money. Is this what you mean by the rich screwing the poor? Oh you mean class equalization? So like there shouldnt be rich and poor people? Everyhing should be equal? Hasn't that been tried in countries like...oh....CUBA? NORTH KOREA? SOVIET UNION? What do you define as an equal right, are you saying healthcare is an inalienable right under the US constitution? What about universal healthcare for illegal aliens, is that equal as well? I think you are really a socialist in sheeps clothing, no offense. The thing is, I can say i am a capitalist, no problem i can lay it out on the table and not feel "guilty" because of it. why can't peopel just lay it out there and say what they are really for?

Because Ann, its really "You're Fault" if someone is a criminal or drug addict, failure etc... somehow you didnt help them enough(indirectly) as society on a whole failed them, its never about personal responsibility Ann, its all about blaming everyone else for your own problem and feeling guilty for it when it arises.

Yes - I feel the same way you Space Nurse - I pray for all those who broadcast hate as well - I pray for those who try to force socialism on this great country - I also pray for American citizens that are working hard and have health insurance while the IV drug user with no job has full health, dental and vision coverage because he doesn't have a job. I pray for everyone that takes personal responsibility to improve their own lives and stops blaming everyone else for his/her own problems, I pray for Israel. God Bless you all, oh yeah and one more thing, I pray that gay marriage is never passed in this country.

Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
Wow - Sounds great Christine, I am very happy for you and I am confident about your future success. Its fortunate that they have direct entry programs for those of us who were born ready for this role. I support you 100% - Keep up the great Work!
-
Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
No - we are not, there are people that are really hoping that you fail because you are doing something that they didnt do. Its unfortunate but true. If they had their way they would do away with direct entry NP - I am sure you will do good things with your future and by your dialogue I can tell you are an articulate and intelligent person. Good luck

Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
WHat makes you say I don't respect bedside nursing? Whoever said that? How am I minimizing bedside nursing by saying I DONT WANT TO DO IT. If I dont want to do something, I dont do it, its that simple. I dont want to be a meter maid or a postal worker, so I dont do it. Does that mean I dont respect them? No, its just I prefer not to do that type of work. Yeah - I am just happy I didnt have to go through bedside nursing for 5 years prior to obtaining my NP degree...its better left to someone else who likes that type of thing. Oh and if one doesnt desire to go to an NP with less than 5 years of bedside experience then they don't need to. Actually I don't recall any of my patients asking me a question like that so its not a concern for me. I will do whatever is in my power to encourage individuals who are getting their BSN to go immediately into the advanced degree program if they are so interested. As a matter of fact, this is my new passion in life.

Changing careers but discouraged by a failed student
Hey John - Wow what a pathetic human being to say that to you - My advice is, there are people all your life that tell you not to do something. Firstly, being that you were in the real world for so long you nkow what it takse to get the job done I am sure, nursing school is no different. You will do fine just study when you have to - dont let morons try to scare you "you dont have a snowballs chance in hell of passing" etc.... Next time she says she cannot picture you as a nurse because you are male, say something sarcastic like "yeah i guess your right, I cant picture woman as doctors" and she will get the hint. Bottom line, dont listen other people when they try to deter you frmo donig something unless they ahve your best interests at heart, 95% of the time they are jealous or are FOS - She is probably jealous because she had to remove herself from the program because she wasnt self disciplined or mentally strong enough to take studying for an exam, so she wants to project it on you because your success in that would be painful to her ego... Go for it and you will do good things!

Why are RN's so fat!
fair enough, the last thing I would ever do is trash someone who is overweight, it is true that we have differrent metabolic rates and we store fat differently, HOWEVER - you must --- you HAVE TO recognize obesity as a disease process that will shorten your lifespan and make the life that you lead harder. I dont know, for me..its like, if I am unwell I would do whatever it takes to become well, to become healthier to feel better etc....I guess its easy for me to say that looking from my own eyes...I think if people just had the knowledge i had regarding exercise and nutrition they could really help themselves to lead better and healthier lives..just my opinion......
-
Why are RN's so fat!
No, i dont follow BFL - I dont know what that is... I just work out 3-4 times a week about 45-60 minutes each time. I lift heavy weights and I would say I am in great shape for my age. I drink a whey protein shake in the morning and have some rice and vegetables, i go to work, before lunch If I get hungry I will down another protein shake, then have a light lunch, a small snack after and then a good dinner, I eat alot of spanish food - Rice, chicken, beef, vegetables. I dont have any dairy products, worse thing you can do for your body. I am not addicted to coffee or soda, however on the weekends I will go splurge on some mexican food because I love it.. The key is to eat light you dont need all these carbohydrates - and if you feel tired its probably for a good reason, instead of drinking coffee and soda to give yourself an artificial high question your lifestyle and health and do steps to improve it..... ANYONE CAN DO IT - its all about Knowledge and self discipline -

Why are RN's so fat!
No it doesnt offend me because she is speaking through truth, its not just RN's that are overweight, it is most of American society as a whole. Its the garbage diet we all eat, do you see obesity like this in other countries? Answer --> No, unless of course you have fast food flourishing their. If you want to lose weight its simple --> Get your butt to the gym and work out with weights 3-4 times a week, stop eating all the crappy food(soda, candy, chips) and making excuses like "I dont have enough time to exercise" when it takes 40-45 minutes 3 times a week and you feel better and are more productive after doing it. Moreover its a lame excuse to say "Oh well, i dont have enough time to eat right". Most Americans OVEREAT, that is the bottom line - you dont need all the food to function you just think that you do. Over eating is correlated with disease, bottom line. Buy some whey protein, have a couple of scoops of that and a good low glycemic carb like rice, some veges and that is a meal right there...have that a couple times a day, its portable you know and you are guarenteed to lose weight and feel much better. So in short, stop drinking 10 cups of starbucks coffee everyday, eating candy and drinking soda, work out with WEIGHTS 3-4 times a week and you will lose weight... By the way - Alot of RN's I know work 36 hours a week on med surg floors - what do you mean by "we just dont have enough time." i dont understand that...I mean do you really not eat during the day? If you are hungry then have a healthy meal for god sakes and if you manager has a problem with you taking 15 minutes to eat tell her/him to screw off and call the department of labor.

Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
Hi -- I recall having this conversation with you previously. Refer to pages 7-8 on this topic. I have absolutely no interest in doing a research study or being "published". Rather than using that to market myself to someone who is going to pay me a salary, I create my own company and my own salary is based on the production from my company; I find this method works best for me because I have no ceiling. Although I didn't find school particularly challenging, I am not an academic....I am a business man first. My specialty is orthopedics/pain management but I really do everything I can if need be.

wow - quoting from "the nation". no liberal bias in that magazine, isn't that a socialist magazine? this is america if i am not mistaken, i don't think the majority of people agree with socialist policies. it is funny how i come on this forum expecting to see a discussiopn about universal health care and all i see is lib bias and bush bashing...pretty pathetic imo.

Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
Really? Hmmm, the evidence shows that you're argument is the weak one. Your argument is basically that direct entry programs should not exist, even if you aren't saying it directly, if you were in charge, that is what you're will would be as evidenced by what you are saying. You are stating that RN's need alot of real world experience before they can get to the next Uber Advanced Level Of "Advanced Practice Nurse". You further espouse that the "critical thinking skills" that you develop as an RN will be directly applicable to working as an FNP in a primary care setting. Hmmm, I have been in alot of different areas as a straight RN, you know what I did primarily? ASSESSMENT!!!!! Take vital, do blood pressure, clean someone up, give someone drug. I did not diagnose and treat disease get it? RN"s do not diagnose and treat disease I think that is what you fail to understand. Let me ask you a question, why do you think it takes someone say..oh, 10 years of being an RN before they are "advanced" enough for APRN - oh wait the "Critical Thinking Skills". The academic BS ivory tower buzz word which emanates throughout the halls of higher learning. I don't know about you, but I have always had the ability to think critically and utilize good common sense. Moreover, I can tell you that my experience as an RN has NOTHING TO DO WITH MY EXPERIENCE AS AN APRN, NOTHING. Unless of course you include taking vitals and the other psychomotor skills involved with with regular RNhood, all the things you said a monkey could do. That is nice that you support a minimum of 5 years of practice to be allowed to practice as an APRN - However, this is not the reality and I am a very successful living example of that. The 5 years is not unreasonable to you because you seem to believe that it magically takes 5 years before you are advanced enough to become more powerful, others do not want to sit around in say a PACU, doing vitals q 15 etc for 5 years when they could be doing something more, SOONER. LOL --> I mean, this is what the whole thing boils down to in my opinion. Can I ask you a question...deep down are you resentful of a nurse that goes into a direct entry program right after school because you didnt do it that way? I don't know about you, but as I have stated repeatedly, not everyone wants to "Do their time", doing assessments at the bedside WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE TO AND DONT NEED TO. Good luck 2 u as well.

Work, classes and clinicals? How to do it all....
Yeah, In my opinion you can cut alot of corners with school, are lectures optional? Do you find them useful? Honestly I found lectures to be a complete waste of time, I would just give my recorder to my friend(if that was even necessary) or review the powerpoints/friends notes on my own time. You maximize your energy this way, than again, I am a self directed learner so perhaps your learning style is different(i graduated with a 3.9 GPA btw) Its all about passing a stupid test, thats the bottom line. Just get through it and once you get out of school dont look back...good luck
-
Should FNP be required for all APN's?
That is stupid....listen its simple, if you want to go into Psych, get your Psych NP, dont listen to other people telling you to get your FNP first and then get you psych NP, that is a complete waste of time, arent you sick of the ivory tower? You dont learn anything in school anyway just get out there and do it....

Universal coverage for pregnant women and children = 9 days of DOD spending
Yeah you are absolutely right, everyone should have food, water, healthcare, a four bedroom apartment in manhattan, and the great thing is, if you dont have to work for it you dont need to, you can always count on the next sucker who is working his butt off to give you some of his tax money to pay for your welfare...great concept. Lets tax everybody 55% of their income to make things "Fair" for everybody, Isnt that the liberal thing to do?
-
Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience??
Hmm, sounds a lot like the 90% of the theories that I heard in grad school that went out the door when I entered the "real world". Like I keep saying 1000 times over and over again, why does it take someone 5 years to learn how to do vitals, give injections and meds? Do you not realize that most people that go into APRN programs right after BSN graduation are actually working as RN's in addition to going to school? Is that not "experience" enough? Or do you still think that you need at least 5 years of takign someones blood pressure before you can "get to the next level" of ADVANCED practice..how do you define that by the way..? Right...and those nurses with "limited knowledge" are actually able to work as registered nurses right after graduation!!!! Kind of like how alot of direct entry APRN's get jobs as APRN's right after graduation!!!! As i said before, most people that are in a direct entry program are working as RN's so they are gaining experience while attending school, and even if they didn't they could would still get out of school, get jobs and do well, as most are now. It has always boggled my mind why people think it takes someone 10 years to learn how to take blood pressure, read medical records , follow doctors orders and give medications. If I dont have to get a job as an RN working for 5 years before I get my APRN, why should I? Because someone on the allnurses forum says I should? Come on you have to give me a better reason than that. Yeah, sad isnt it? Well, not sad for me because that is the way I did it but I can see how it causes people who disagree with this option such pain. NEWS FLASH --> If you are working as an RN you are not necessarily getting a great deal of experience diagnosing and treating illness. As far as I understand, the medical doctors are the ones that do the diagnose and ORDER YOU to do NURSING INTERVENTIONS and give medication. So you want me to work as an RN for a year before I go to a completely different setting in primary care as an FNP, doing completely different work, i.e., diagnosing and treating illness and this would satisfy you? Sorry it doesn't make any sense when one looks at it rationally. One opinion that is obviously a minority, as evidenced by the direct entry programs currently abound and graduating NP's everyday. I do not find this advice practical or wise, at least in terms of the experience I have had. In life you only have a limited amount of time..why waste it doing something you dont need to do when you can do more in less time....
