I passed! It was harder for me because I was getting questions above the passing standard! the first time I took NCLEX, I didnt pass but questions seemed easier that time. So as of today, I am officially an RN!:balloons:

OMG!!! I Passed!!! It is so surreal to me! I did another 265 questions and felt hopeless! My hubby woke me up and said my name was on the cali BON!:smiley_aa Thank you to all for your support!:thankya: . This forum has made me feel better both times!

RNTOBE2007, I found the test to be slightly harder. I was expecting it to feel easier because I went into the test feeling ready and was dissapointed when it didnt seem so. Having 265 questions once means you are the closest to passing, so with my studying prior to testing, lets hope this time I did!

coachlvr, I am truly sorry about your results. I know exactly how you feel. You are on the "verge" of passing. My first test was in Feb. 07' and I failed with 265 questions and "near passing" on all results. I guess I kind of knew that I was near passing or else my computer would of shut off earlier..... I just took my test for the second time yesterday and another 265 questions. I graduated in Dec. as well, and majority of my class has taken and passed. I just want to get on with my original plans to work as RN! Did you have a lot of meds on your test that you NEVER heard of? I did. Did you get the Kaplan Meds in a Box to help study? Well, dont give up and you will have RN after your name! You can't win the game, if you dont play!

Thanks everyone, I needed this.... I feel exhausted for putting so much time and energy into preparing for this test. My boss at work even let me bring my laptop for when I have "free time", just to study. So yeah, even though there is hope (as you guys have prooved), I still think in the back of my head, " what if I didnt make it?" Thanks again for your encouraging remarks. I will keep you posted either way it goes.

I took my NCLEX-RN for the second time today and I really felt prepared and studied well, but I got 265 questions again! Last time I took it 2/1 and didnt study as much as I could of. This time I thought I spent my study time well practicing questions and learning strategies. I have never been a good test taker, but geez, I dont know if I could handle this test again! I am not feeling good about this right now......HELP, what is wrong with me? Oh yeah, to top it off, I got home and there was a message from the hospital I interviewed at and they want me! It is the only place I inteviewed because I didnt want to settle. The new program will start in August. oh what to do.. what to do.

Stush, Dont give up! I too have 5 kids and did not pass the 1st time. Some of us are just not as good of test takers as others but are awesome on the floor! Hang in there, and try a new study plan. Set time for yourself each day to study. Try and break it up into small quality study sessions instead of one long one.

Oops! I meant that the waiting time varies from state to state, but in every state you cannot work as a general nurse--still against the law.

It varies by some states, but you have to wait a minimum of 45 days between taking NCLEX. As far as I know, there is no "sooner" than that. That is the state board rule, not your hospital. As soon as you are notified that you failed your NCLEX, your IP becomes null and void, therefore you cannot work as a general nurse, it is against the law. I am one of those people who did not pass the first time, and had to wait 45 days before taking again. It ended up being about 60 days between tests as the processing paperwork takes time and getting the next available appointment from the testing center to a couple of weeks. Believe me, the time flies! Before you know it, you will be taking the test again :wink2:

Although it is illegal to keep a person working as "a general nurse" after failing NCLEX, it is okay for the hiring hospital to change their title to unit secretary or CNA and have them working as so their title states. That is what the majority of hospitals do because they have invested training in this person and they are only a test away of having that "RN" after their name.

For me, the algebra class for my pre-req was hard, had to take it twice. The funny thing is I did very well once into the nursing program with math calculations and often helped others. hmmm......maybe we didnt need that pre-req math class to begin with. Afterall, they dont teach you any drug calculations in that class. I liked peds, NICU, rotations tho.....

It depends on the unit that you work on or even the hospital. I failed the NCLEX, but I had my LVN to fall back on. Most Hospitals, not all, dont take LVN's so I was lucky. But, I have classmate that is not an LVN, who just took her NCLEX, and still awaiting results. There are no CNA's on our unit (L&D, Post-partum, Nursery) so she was told she could work as a unit secretary until she did get her license. For her, they have already invested almost 3 months of training, so I think it is wise to fit us in somewhere. I have heard that too at other hospitals, that you just go to "plan B". When your close to taking your NCLEX, just ask your supervisor what will the plan be. Most people are so nervous taking the NCLEX, that it is very normal to doubt yourself and start thinking of the "what ifs?" Good luck with your test;)

Alyssa, Good luck to you and I wish you the very best. :) I know exactly how you feel. I will be re-taking mine next week and have been studying much more. I went to 265 the first time. Just take your time with the questions, answer your best and this time there will be an "RN" after your name!

I am currently using the NCSBN plan and for the most part has been good. I believe you must know content as well as strategy for taking the NCLEX. This program doesnt teach you strategy, just content. There are practice questions but they dont always give you rationals and I think those are just as important, whether you got the question right or wrong. I am studying for the second time. The first time I studied Sauders and did a lot of practice questions. Dont go by what works for one person because we are all different. I am just a terrible test taker, thats all. I read too much into the questions. I will take my next exam (and last one) in a couple of weeks!

For some reason LA hospitals pay more but I dont like to spend a big chunk of my day on the freeway coming and going to work. I didnt pick the hospital I work at for the pay, thats for sure! It was close to home. Also, some of the hospitals that pay more, dont have that good of reputation, so be careful of that. I looked into CHOC in Orange and they had the lowest base rate of all (of all the many hospitals that I researched), but they have an excellent reputation. Long Beach has an excellent reputation as well so I think you will be compensated in other ways besides monitary ones.

Yeah, it is probably coincidental. I think sometimes pay rates vary for whatever reasons. A friend was offered more just for the reason of having experience as an LVN. I just know that Long Beach is unionized and the others are not. Your pay rate sounds really good though for new grad rates.

actually Long Beach Memorial is the only unionized hospital in its own memorial health care system in OC. I work at another MHC hospital and are rates are different. Saddleback, Saddleback (san clemente), and Orange Coast have all different rates.

megster, good luck to you! i am getting ready to take my test for the second time as well. first time, i did the whole 265 and failed. but i am studying content and practicing questions, so i only have to take this 1 more time! i heard of more people passing at 265 than failing at that #. let us know when you passed!

Sorry to hear that, next time you will study and you WILL PASS:) ! It is 45 days between the dates of taking the test, although you have to be given your ATT and make an appointment and depending how booked they are, it might as well be 45 days from getting ATT!. I took my first test on 2/1, didnt find out that I failed for 3 weeks and send my money in right away. I was given ATT about 40 days from that test date, so I am ending up taking my test just over 2 1/2 months later. Just get your money in and register with the testing site right away. Good luck!
