  1. hi! i'm looking into moving to Philadelphia in June/July 2010 and was wondering if anyone is having a hard time trying to find a job in Philadelphia. I live in Oregon right now, and SF, Oregon, Seattle and Chicago all have nightmare job markets. I'm just trying to go somewhere that i'll have a good job... and be near a big city. Does anyone have any contact information i can look at? I'm also EXTREMELY interested in oncology and i know that it's not really easy to pick a specialty and expect to work in it right now, but.... What's the best Onc hospital in Philadelphia? thanks!
  2. no first test yet, but i definitely did better on my OB exam this summer than my PEDS exam eventhough i did my clinical in a peds setting.
  3. i'm sorry youre frustrated. I can tell you that none of the students that are in my program enjoy taking HESI's. they're a bunch of crap! and DEFINITELY not a reflection of your abilities of a nurse. Good luck when you take it next!
  4. TURN THE PATIENT EVERY 2 HOURS!! and probably fromt he ear it would be CSF.
  5. HESI is no fun. just study the stuff that youve been taught. Some iphone or ipod touch applications help with studying. Ive begun to use NCLEX stuff for everything!
  6. stick with it. i felt the same way going into the program because it's so overwhelming. once you get into the swing of things... you'll be more inclined to stay in.
  7. Maybe a diagnosis of Risk for depression r/t diagnosis of prostate cancer might work?
  8. i agree with Tweety. you aren't a nurse until you are working under the title of the nurse and have already passed your NCLEX
  9. my perception has changed a bit only in that i am not as idealistic as i first was. Most of the nurses that i have shadowed seemed to be a bit jaded about their patients and definitely don't spend as much time with them as i think they should.
  10. Pulses are sometimes hard to find, but they are important. Find anyone you know who you can look for pulses! other students are the best guinea pigs!
  11. Diabetes is always a good topic
  12. I am looking for suggestions from current oncology nurses on things that i can do to look better to an employer in the oncology field. Ideally i'd like to start working with oncology patients right out of school so i'm going to start the process now. suggestions?
  13. I am currently in nursing school trying to focus on Oncology. I graduate 2010. I am extremely motivated to get into oncology as soon as i graduate (plan to do my senior practicum in oncology) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on specific things to do outside of actual school that would benefit me and my chances in getting into oncology. I have previously cared for a loved one with leukemia (1.5 years) and walked for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Other than that and working in an ICU for 9mos as a CNA II I have no other experience. Suggestions?
