  1. Around 109. Severely septic patient that seized for 2 hours straight. He didn't make it.
  2. My hospital had that same issue with night shift holidays when I first started. We all complained and then voted, and we voted to work the whole holiday (eve and day) then have the next holiday off. So this year I work Thanksgiving eve and day, off Christmas eve and day, work New Years eve and day. Next year will be opposite.
  3. I have worked critical care for 5 years, and the only time we have 1:1s is fresh CABG, CRRT or a very sick patient on multiple pressors. You can work on any unit and have 2 patients arrest at the same time.
  4. I work Critical Care and am almost 9 weeks pregnant...besides chicken pox/varicella, you are not supposed to be around VRE. I also asked our intensivist about TB, and he said to avoid them because the anti-TB meds aren't good for pregnant women. Hope this helps!
  5. We gave a med on the floor the other night (well, the doctor did) that is supposed to be given ONLY in ICU, not even IMCU normally gives that med, as it is a neuromuscular blocker and can cause respiratory arrest. The doctor gave a paralytic to a patient that wasn't vented?? Yikes.
  6. They asked about their loved one who was on a vent: "Does he/she still have lungs?" (can't remember if it was a man or woman) :icon_roll
  7. I went in to d/c an art line on a young girl, whose parents were also in the room (it was the first time I had done this). I unspiked the saline bag without first deflating the pressure bag, and needless to say saline sprayed all over me and the pt, who was awake and with it. Won't do that again!
  8. I am an RN in Indiana. I took the NCLEX on a Tues. about 2pm-ish. I knew the next morning that I passed by looking on the website www.in.gov/pla. Hope this helps!
  9. Vin Diesel... Hyde from that 70s Show... And I would agree with Kovac from ER and David Beckham Johnny Depp esp. as Capt. Jack and Eric Bana from Troy I could go on and on....
  10. Your troponin I may be elevated (I've seen as high as into the 100s), CK and CK-MBs would be high. Of course you may have some EKG changes such as ST elevation or bundle branch block. Having an MI wouldn't affect your platelets tho. Hope this helps a little...
