UNC Chapelhill's RN-BSN Online Program
WOW!!! That's awesome. I actually live in Burlington. I used to work at Duke for about 7 months. I wouldn't mind driving to attend these classes. How does the program work? Only 4 hours a week for a year? If you get anymore information on the program, let me know. I would like to view that as an option.. Thank you for the information.. Keep in touch. ~K~

UNC Chapelhill's RN-BSN Online Program
NC Girl RN, I have also sent my unofficial transcripts to be reviewed by UNC-CH. I have heard that the program is difficult to get into, but what program isn't. Go to NCBON.COM to take a look at different RN-BSN programs in the state, just so you can see the different options that you may have. I hope that helps. ~K~

FAILED...but now you passed??
Well ladies, I failed nclex 4x in less than 2 years. At first I used Kaplan twice because they guaranteed a pass, and if you didn't pass, they wanted you to try again. Both times I failed. I spoke to my Nurse Manager who suggested I take the NCLEX-PN, so that I will be able to work as an LPN while I study for the NCLEX-RN. I took the test and passed the first try. However, I was doing 12 hour shifts, and I decided to try to test again and I was unsuccessful again. That is when I found this website. I was able to gain strength and hope from many people here, and they suggested that I use Suzanne's plan. Suzanne sent me her plan and to be honest with you, I didn't follow it the way I should have and I went to test and failed again. By this time I was on the verge of giving up. I told my husband that I was done, and I was going to do something different. He told me, "NO". He said that I was already an RN, and I can beat the test. I also joined a thread here for "February Test Takers", where they prayed for all the people who were testing in the month of February. I did Suzanne's Plan to the book. I studied all that I could, and stopped studying 3 days before my test. The day I went to test, I was so sick. I was coughing, sneezing, and just congested. I was going to cancel, but then I changed my mind. I took my time and answered the questions carefully. By the time I looked at the clock, I ran out of time at 243 questions, and I broke down. The lady in the test center walked over to me and asked me if I was ok, and I told her yes. I was exhausted, sick, and just tired, but when I walked out of the test center I told myself that I passed.. Two days later, I checked the site and I passed. I immediately just fell to my knees and started to thank GOD. Next month, I will be an RN for a year, and I am a Charge Nurse on my unit. I am also applying to an MSN program and getting ready to take my GRE's in March. So DON'T YOU GIVE UP.. The NCLEX does not determine what type of NURSE you will be. If it wasn't for GOD, Prayer, and the support of allnurses, I probably would have given up.. WE ARE ALL HERE TO SUPPORT YOU. You CAN and WILL PASS THIS TEST, but you have to BELIEVE it.. STAY POSITIVE AND YOU WILL PASS THE NCLEX. ~K~

The GRE Blues
Thank you. I decided to take the prep class, so that begins Jan. 10 to Feb. 21. Application deadline is March 31st, so I will probably take the GRE's again first week in March. I know I will probably be cutting it close, but I did call the Master's Program, and they stated that I can send my application in, and call in my GRE scores to them after I take it. I bought the vocabulary GRE note cards, so I will begin using them. I have a good 2 months to study, so wish me luck as I take it again in March.. ~K~

The GRE Blues
Thank you both for the response. I will definitely check out my local community college to see if they offer a GRE Prep. The prep I was going to take is called "Prep Success". People have "reported" a 200-300 point increase after taking it, so it is funny to see that overall, point increase is only 60-70. Thanks again. ~K~

The GRE Blues
Hello, I recently took my GRE test in preparation for entrance into an RN-MSN program. I was totally in shock when I viewed my score at the end of the test. It was awful and too bad to mention. It was under 900. Anyway, the worst thing is that I sent my scores to the school because I felt confident. I did call the school today, and they stated that I can take it again, but I should take a review course, which they offer. My question is, should I take the review course? I know it wouldn't hurt, but will it improve my scores over 1000? Or should I just study myself for 2 months and try again? Please advise. K:cry:

Substance Abuse in the Workplace
Hi, I am in a twister and need some advice. Well, I work in a clinic, and I am the Charge Nurse. I have an LPN and 2 CMA's that work with me. The LPN was hired 3 months after I was, and I trained her on the unit. We became very close, and became good friends. Well, here is where the story gets crazy. One day she came into work looking really disheveled. Her makeup was all wrong, and she spoke to me with slurred speech. I asked her if she was ok, and she said "yes, I am fine". I told her to go to the bathroom and fix herself up, and she did. I was a bit confused, but I went on with my day. About 15 min. later, one of the Doc's came to me and said, "Someone gave my pt the wrong medication". I looked at the sheet and it was the LPN's signature next to the med. I went to her and I said, you gave the pt the wrong med. She looked right at me and denied it. I pointed out to her that it was her signature there, and she said, "oh, I did give that med. She crossed out the wrong one, and put the right med. I told her that she cannot do that because we are now unsure if she really gave it. She still denied that she gave the wrong med. I then pulled her aside and asked her if she needed some coffee, and to tell me what's going on. She said she was fine, but I knew she wasn't so I pulled her off the floor and made her set appointments. Well, one of the Doc's handed her information to call Animal Control because a pt was bitten by a wild animal. As I came back from speaking with someone, I saw her on the phone. I went by to see what she was doing, and she was not making any sense on the phone. I asked her who she was speaking with, and she said "Animal Control". I let her finish talking, and I called them back. When I asked if they received a call from our clinic, they stated "NO" because there is only one person that handles animal bites, and she denied speaking with anyone from our facility. So, I pulled her off the floor, notified my supervisor, and now she has been on leave without pay, evaluated by a physician, and mental health worker, and she was to come back after all the results were back UNTIL TODAY. I decided to look her up on the Board of Nursing and found out that she had a previous disciplinary action of being impaired on the job and falsifing documentation related to controlled substances. My mouth dropped. She had done something like this before, and her probationary period prior just ended in April. My HR department obviously didn't know this or they wouldn't have hired her. My question is, what should I do? I am a new RN (working for them for 9 months), and the youngest on the floor. I know this shouldn't be personal because I do have a responsibility to report this, but I really feel aweful about the things that are coming to my attention. My supervisor also doesn't know yet, but should I tell her tomorrow? Sorry for the long post. New RN and Charge Nurse

NCLEX failure!!!!!
SugarPlum2003, I would suggest Suzanne's Plan to you. It is the best thing out there. Like everyone stated earlier, you can find it as a stickie on the top of the page once you enter the "NCLEX DISCUSSION BOARD". Just remember, NEVER GIVE UP... ~K~

I can't believe it. I PASSED!!!!!!
RafRN and Cardiheartnsg, I want to let you both know never give up. You all know the old saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try try again". It took my almost 2 years and 5 NCLEX RN exams later. YOU BOTH CAN DO IT... Not passing the NCLEX is never a good feeling, but just think of when you do. Keep positive and keep your faith, and you will succeed. ~K~

I can't believe it. I PASSED!!!!!!
Hey Everyone, I have a story to tell you all. I graduated in May '06 from Nursing School, and I have been unsuccessful taking the NCLEX RN Exam. I took Kaplan twice with no success, and two more times doing tons of books and not focusing on one book. I scheduled to take my NCLEX RN for the 5th time on February 21st (Thursday). I work at a clinic as an LPN and I caught the flu. I told my supervisor that I needed Thursday off to take my test, but I might change it because I'm sick. She told me that I SHOULD NOT change the test date, and she doesn't care if I am sick, I should take the test anyway. She gave me some days off, and I kept telling myself, "How can I take this test, I am too sick". I got to the test center Thursday and explained to Pearson that I had the flu. They said not to worry and they will supply me with tissue if needed. I was coughing, and I think everyone in the test center was upset with me. My body was aching, and my head was pounding, but I looked up and said "Jesus, please help me. Please give me the strength to take this test". I said that periodically through the test, and I took my time. I did look at my timer and realized that I only had 5 min left and I was on question 240. I knew I wasn't going to make it to 265, so I took my time to answer the rest correctly. The computer shut off at 244. I said my last prayer, and left the test center. This morning, I checked the BON website and my name wasn't there, then I checked their hotline # and my license number wasn't there either, so I told myself, "OK, I will accept my failure for the 5th time". Then I went to pearson vue and my quick results were in. Something told me to just see what it said, AND THERE IT WAS, the words that I have longed to see for almost 2 years...............................................PASS..... I can't believe it even NOW. I would especially like to thank SUZANNE her words of encouragement when I thought of just giving up. THANK YOU. Also to everyone on allnurses.com. .. All of you have supported me through my ups and downs and I thank you. To all who have to test soon... No matter what you are going through, just know that there is a GOD in heaven that will answer all your prayers. You just have to Believe in Him, and believe in yourself..... You all can do it... Kaye, RN (That just looks so good)

Anyone Pass Nclex-RN studying 3 wks or less?
Well, before I took NCLEX the first time, I worked with a male Nurse. He was a lawyer for some years and decided to switch to Nursing. He told me that he never touched a reveiw book. Once he scheduled his test, he went on vacation, came back, and just tested. That just amazed me. I did have a company come to my school and test us, but it wasn't ATI or Hesi like everyone else described. I did well on that. I just think critical thinking is key to success on the nclex. You can study 3500 questions, but if you don't know the strategies or critical thinking, it won't help one bit. ~K~

Anyone Pass Nclex-RN studying 3 wks or less?
Hi Guys, I was just wondering if anyone has passed the NCLEX-RN studying 3 wks or less. I have a couple of friends who just read the strategy books and went right in, took the test, and PASSED. Right now I am doing Suzanne's plan. I guess some people are just good at not having to study. Do you all know of anyone? Just trying to take a poll. ~K~

taking boards more than 3 times
mimidragon, Your story sounds similar to mine. Just know that you are not alone in this process. Everyone is right, if you stop, then you have failed. Keep going and keep trying until you become an RN. I graduated May of 06, and I didn't PASS Nclex for the 4th time in November. I have cried and cried over this, but I pulled myself together and I will be testing again in Jan or Feb. I won't stop until I become an RN and you shouldn't either. I would recommend doing Suzanne's Plan. I am doing her plan right now and it has a very high success rate. If you have any other questions you can PM me. Remember, NEVER GIVE UP... ~K~

Nov test takers
Blaquediamondz, I am sorry to hear that you did not pass. I also didn't pass this month on my 4th try as well. Just know that you are not alone in this process. I also applaude you for not giving up and trying to find a better way to study. For me, I am going to do Suzanne's plan Strictly. In the past, I did email Suzanne for her plan, but didn't follow it the way that I should have. Maybe you can PM her and get the information on her plan. For now, however, just take some time off, cry if you need to, and get back on your journey to success. YOU WILL PASS THE NCLEX. God did not bring you this far to turn back now, so Press toward that mark. Your November family is here to support you through it all. ~K~

Keep in touch and let us know. Wizard100 and tflorn, Thank you for the words of encouragement. I went to church today and the message was "BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE". My pastor spoke about failure. He stated that you are only a failure if you give up. He said, keep moving forward, and if you fail, get right back up and do it again.. That is exactly what I was going through and he gave me words of encouragement, as well as MY NOVEMBER FAMILY..I will be testing again.. ~K~

Hi My Nov. Family, HAPPY THANKSGIVING I feel a lot better after not Passing My Nclex, and I am positive that I will do it again. I did do Suzanne's plan, but didn't follow it exclusively. I went to Kaplan, then to learningext.com. Next time around, I am doing her plan ONLY... To Seattlesbest000. I am sorry to hear that you didn't pass the nclex exam. Don't give up hope. I was in your shoes just 3 days ago. I was down and depressed, but through the support of my family here, I was able to get through it. I knew that if I didn't take it again, I would then be a FAILURE, and I am not that person, and neither are YOU. So, take that needed time for yourself, and begin studying again. This will be my 5th time taking the NCLEX. Wow, 5th time, but I am not stopping until I PASS this test, and you shouldn't either. GOD BLESS EVERYONE TODAY, and ENJOY YOUR DAY WITH THE ONES YOU LOVE. ~K~

TO MY NOVEMBER FAMILY, Thank you all for such words of encouragement. I really needed it. I cried the entire day yesterday and I feel a lot better today. I have asked myself and GOD why I didn't PASS, but I know everything is for a reason. I still THANK GOD for everything, EVERYDAY. I just felt yesterday that I let you ALL down, as well as my family. I really felt that I was hit by a freight train yesterday, but I know you all were still praying for me even when I didn't pass, and for that, I THANK YOU ALL. TO StarMatrix17, cheyeree, and PedNurse4ever: Good luck on your exams today and tomorrow. I pray that God will open your eyes to every question and guide you in the right direction. I pray that you find peace and courage with taking the Exam and that you succeed and PASS the NCLEX. Amen. ~K~

Hey Guys, My test is over... I felt so calm and relaxed taking the test. I had tons of calculations. I was so shocked. I had A LOT of Priority questions as well. Well, it's finally over, and not the second part of it, THE WAIT. Keep me in your prayers. As for the posting that Je da did. I thought it was very helpful and it was UNINTENTIONAL. It was obviously not done on purpose, so it should not be blown out of context. Ja da, we thank you. ~K~
