Most stressful moment as a nurse?
You did that jerk a huge favor and he thanks you by crapping on you. What a low life. Had you let him operate on the wrong side, I'm sure he would have blamed you for it.

Retire by 30, thanks nursing!
Long term, stocks grow faster than real estate. Smoking is fun too, but it is physically unhealthy just like nursing. Look at the injury thread.... https://allnurses.com/forums/f8/what-injuries-illnesses-yours-has-been-result-being-nurse-272053.html

Vent, called a "stupid nurse",,, again
I would consult a lawyer too. Many lawyers will give you a free consultation if you ask for one.

Most stressful moment as a nurse?
Excluding anything that led to a lawsuit or information that would be inappropriate to share with the message board, what is the most stressful situation you ever experienced as a nurse?

abandonment defined?
When I circulate, if I leave the room, I walk quickly and get back to the room as soon as possible. I will leave the room to pee but I do it lightning fast.

Now I understand why there is a nursing shortage
Nursing is physically unhealthy and hazardous. My health is more important than money. Nurses also get a lot of verbal abuse and disrespect. You have only one life. Try to choose an enjoyable career. If you hate going to work everyday, you picked the wrong career.

being harassed for taking family medical leave
Consult an employment lawyer.

Now I understand why there is a nursing shortage
Good post. If college students really knew what nursing is like, there would be much fewer applicants to nursing school. I work only 12 hours a week because I dislike nursing. I am wasting my degree.

What injuries or illnesses of yours has been the result of being a nurse?
For example, back injuries, hypertension, etc?
-
At what point are you too old?
Whatever your age, take care of your health. Exercise. Do back exercises to strengthen your back to make back injury less likely. Nursing is physically demanding and stressful, so be good to your body.

How do you protect your identity?
Of course we are accountable for our actions. That's why we sign our names in the patients' charts, as I have already mentioned a few times in this thread. Well then maybe I should starting hiding my last name after all.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Ironically, before nursing school, I was in the Army for 4 years. After basic training, soldiers are generally very nice to each other. I actually enjoyed it. It's a cool job except for being away from home a lot and possibly getting shot at.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Well, it's true that O.R. nursing is the only type of nursing I have ever done. I just assumed all nursing was like this. I guess I am wrong.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
I respect your view, but you would be amazed to see what operating rooms are really like. It's a whole other world. I've seen surgeons yell the "F" word in every sentence. And it was considered common behavior.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Nah, not stressed, just disgusted.
-
Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
I only yell at mean people. And in the operating room, it DOES earn respect. They are like kittens to me after that. I am nice to nice people and rude to rude people. I am never mean to nice people.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Eh, I've just been working in the operating room since 1996 and I'm tired of seeing nurses talking to aides like they are dog crap. I'm tired of the general negativity that some workers display everyday. Nursing is hard enough without having to deal with arrogant people. The way I look at it, I am paid $44 an hour to be a nurse and an tolerator of jerks. No, not all nurses are like this. Many nurses are sweethearts. It's the jerks that are sickening. And yes, all of society is like this. Manners are a dying art. It's all a rat race now. Get what you want in life even if it means stepping on other people. When people are rude to me, I yell back. Then they are nice to me. I have earned their respect. The problem is that they still take advantage of people who do not stick up for themselves. So even if they are nice to me, they are still a jerk. I saw a movie lately called "No Country for Old Men." It had a good line in it....... "When people stopping saying sir and ma'am, it's all down hill from there."

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Holy crap, look at all the snippy defensive responses. May I remind you that I mentioned in my original question as a possible explanation...... " 5. Most people in the world these days lack manners." ... (not just healthcare workers) Furthermore, if you think that all careers have workers as arrogant as physicians, you need to spend a few weeks in an operating room. The verbal abuse that some surgeons hand out is unsurpassed.

Why do you think so many healthcare workers are mean and arrogant?
Not all of course, but many physicians, nurses, and other health care workers have mean and arrogant personalities. Why do you think this is? Is it that.... 1. You have to be very competitive to get into medical or nursing school. Competitive people are often cut-throat. 2. The stress of the job causes workers to be cranky and mean. 3. Unhappy people act arrogant to feel better about their lives. 4. Workers learn to be mean from other coworkers. It's a conformity thing. 5. Most people in the world these days lack manners. Any opinions?
