  1. There is a gynecologist at a hospital just north of Boston who's name is Dr. Dick...and it's a woman!!!
  2. Here is my 2 cents... If you want to know why we whine & complain about staffing issues and being over-worked, then get off your cushy chair in your office far, far away from the units and come join the "lowly staff nurses" for 8 or even 12 hours and see what's going on. And I don't mean pop in for a few minutes...stay the WHOLE TIME. I'm sure you would be enlightened. I'm not saying that what you do isn't important, but I am saying that what WE do is just as important if not more. WE are the ones telling the end-stage cancer patients that it's ok to let go. WE are the ones holding the patients' hands when they are scared. WE are the ones who don't think twice about missing our lunch break because a co-worker has a patient who is crashing. With all of the emotionally and physically draining things that our jobs require, I think we are entitled to voice our dismay. And come to think of it...I don't want some trinket of your fake appreciation for what I do. I know that what I do is important and that I have made a difference in someone's life. A "Thank You" from a patient or their family means a heck of a lot more to me than a thank you from management. And just like Heather said...Things are very different from our side of the desk.
  3. :rotfl: At my last job, one year we got an ugly tote bag with the hospital's mission on it. Another year we got a flimsy towel that was see-thru even before I washed it the first time. And the last little trinket of their affection I got was one of those lanyards (a.k.a. choke collar) that had a ring on it that I never figured out how to attach my ID to. I'll be interested to see what this facility I am at now will do. And by the way... HAPPY NURSE'S DAY TO EVERYONE!

When I was in school, there was a patient that used to get the hiccups a lot. They ended up getting an order for Thorazine IM. It worked wonders for him.
  5. The hospital I just left only required an 8-hour tele course to work on telemetry. The hospital I am going to requires a 40-hour tele course to work on the unit where I will be working. Neither hospital has a "telemetry tech" or ICU monitoring floor beds. I'd rather know how to monitor my own patient instead of having to rely on someone elsewhere in the hospital doing it. JMHO :)
