My understanding is that its $70,000 to start. No thanks. My manager has been a nurse for 17 years and I have been a nurse since May. With enough overtime, I'll make more than her this year. And I don't I won't carry a pager at all times, come in to work nights if we aren't staffed, deal with administration and their BS face to face week after week, etc, etc, etc. I know other hospitals in our area pay managers hourly and also have assistant managers. That would be a different story.

I would take the office job, and then if at all possible try to find something prn at a hospital to do occasionally. I think that would make you very attractive to for L&D in the future.

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!! I was so sure I failed. I checked the BON website all day yesterday and my name wasn't under the licensee lookup and I thought "I must have failed" and at 8:40 this morning (exactly 48 hours after I finished testing) my quick results were not available and I thought "Its because I failed!" Then I thought maybe its only updated hourly or something. So I checked again every 5 minutes! And at exactly 9:00 they were available. I was shaking and crying and could barely put in my credit card number. I was positive I failed, but I PASSED!!!!!!

Mine shut off at 76. I'm glad I didn't have to do too many more because I was pretty much brain dead at that point. I do not feel good about it at all. It was crazy hard. There were several meds I'd never heard of and I had at least 15 select all that apply questions. I am the first grad from my school and everyone is going to want to know if I passed. I don't know what I'll do if I don't!!!

I read on another post somewhere today a couple of posters who tested on a Thursday got results on Saturday about the same time they finished their test. I don't know if this varies by state or what. I took mine today and I am about to lose my mind. If I have to wait til Monday, I don't know if I'll make it! Good luck!

I just got my ATT yesterday, and much to my dismay the only test dates in state were for today(!) and in June. I had been waiting very impatiently for my ATT because I am getting married June 7th, and I was determined to take the test before the wedding. So my options were today, next week (over 400 miles away), or 3-4 days before the wedding (umm, I don't think so). I was fully prepared to have to drive, but something in me decided there was no sense in waiting (even though I have hardly studied at all) so I signed up and took the NCLEX-RN this morning. It was SOOOOO hard! It shut off at 76, and I had probably 15-20 SATA and just as many pharm questions, many about meds I'd never heard of!! What was I thinking??

I am graduating from an ADN program in May and have accepted a position on a medical floor with a base rate of $20.52/hour. I will be signing up with a new program where I will get a $10 shift differential for agreeing to work 50 out of 52 weekends (I chose Sat, Sun, Mon, but I also had the option of Fri, Sat, Sun). I actually get the differential anytime I work, except inservices. For nights the diff for this program is $14. The regular shift diffs for this hospital are $5 for weekends and $4 for nights. I will most likely end up working 7 days each 2 week pay period, so from what I figure, this will put me over $68k/year. This is in South Carolina.

I don't know much about the working environments at any of the hospitals in Columbia, but I do know that Palmetto Health, Lexington Medical Center, and Providence all start new grads at about $19/hour. I haven't heard anything bad about any of these places. I actually had clinicals at the VA hospital and we had staff telling us not to come work there because it was terrible. Although I know someone who works there and loves it.

What would the reaction been if she had said something similar at an LPN graduation about becoming RNs. I think it was just plain tasteless.

I go to bigwords.com. You can type in all the ISBNs and it will show you the cheapest places to get your books. You will actually be buying the books from places like amazon, barnes and noble, and textbook.com, but it will do the searching for you and find the least expensive combinations. You can also specify if you want new books. I have gotten new books through this website and saved close to 40% off the price at my school's bookstore. I bought used books for the summer. At the bookstore I would have paid about $275, and I got them through this website for just over $100. They are all in good condition aside from some highlighting and light wear and tear, but who cares when you've saved $175??

I believe that I read that they are still researching its use in men. Don't know how long ago that was though.

Its my understanding that it is not a vaccine against cervical cancer but against HPV which is a major risk factor for cervical cancer. Wouldn't there be even bigger implications if it were a vaccine against cancer?
