  1. I had Lasik done last year after I completed my pre-reqs. It was the best decision ever. The price was competely out of my range but I paid in installments and have no regrets whatsoever. My vision was -5.25 and -5.75. I had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts and glasses til I was 35. My eyes were killing me between studying, working and lack of sleep. My contacts always made my eyes feel dry and would burn in the mornings when putting them back in because of not much sleep. I cannot say enough about the freedom you will feel starting the very next day. Definately the best thing I ever did.
  2. Britney, I know exactly how you feel. I also check the MAR about 10x and am constantly checking up on myself in so many areas.. I also have a problem handing tests in at school. I have to check that I fill in the same letters on the answer sheet that I have on the test form at least 3 times before I can hand it in. I work in a hospital as a tech while going to school and I enter the vital signs into the computer, accuchecks, etc. I always have double check that I entered them in correctly and then still hold onto my paper another 2 days (just in case). Same goes for my alarm clock. I am so afraid that I will miss getting up for clinicals or work that I am considering getting a 2nd alarm clock (just in case) I do check several times that I set it correctly but it doesn't seem to help. We are too funny!
  3. I gained 10 lbs since I started my pre-req classes last year. I definately think studying attributes to this. I work full time (sitting at a desk all day), then go to school 3 nights a week (more sitting) and then study for several hours a week (sitting again). I do have 3 children so I do get some physical activity in but definately feel that being so emotionally exhausted along with lack of sleep makes you feel physically drained which makes you not want to exercise at all. This is a vicious cycle that I hope to break by 2009 when I graduate.
  4. I will be starting the nursing program at Abington (Dixon School of Nursing) this August. They have a great reputation and an extremely high passing rate for the NCLEX exam. They do hold open houses throughout the year that would be helpful to you. Also, the staff there is great and will be able to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. Good Luck!
  5. My composite score was 136 and I got accepted. Sounds like most schools want 100 or above but depends on how many applicants and how many openings are availabe. Your GPA also plays a big part in getting accepted.
  6. Tamara, I just received my acceptance letter last week for Dixon School of Nursing. They have a great program and had a passing rate of 99% for the NCLEX for last years graduates. Are you applying for this Fall? Let me know. Cathy
  7. Hi Maureen, Congratulations!! I am so happy for you. Cathy
  8. Maureen, Thank you! You hang in there. It will probably be there by tomorrw. Best of Luck! Keep me posted. Cathy
  9. Maureen, I got my acceptance letter today :monkeydance: Can't tell you how happy I am (and relieved). This has been such a stressful time. I probably still won't be able to sleep tonight but at least now it's because of joy, not anxiety. I hope you got the same good news. Keep me posted. Cathy
  10. No, I still didn't hear anything. I am so wound up right now. I am also getting the phone calls from everyone asking if I got in. I called the school this morning to see if the letters were sent out and was told that they were in the process getting them together as we spoke. I hope they went out early enough to get here tomorrow but now I'm wondering if its going to be Thursday or even worse ---- Friday . My thoughts are with you as well as we wait in agony. Keep me posted.
  11. Thank you all for the kind words.... I'm glad that I am not alone. For those who got in, I'm really happy that it worked out. For those of us who are still waiting, we are just going to have to suck it up and take it day by day... I will keep you posted. Good Luck to all !!!!
  12. I am pacing around, having crazy dreams and can't focus on anything until I get my decision letter for Nursing School. The decision date is 1/15/07 but just realized that it is a Holiday so there will be no mail. Was hoping, it would come today but NO... I don't know if I should contact the school on Monday to see if anyone could let me know, or just wait and see. The thought of having to wait another couple of days is killing me. My GPA is good 3.7, My NLN was good, 137 compositie score and 97th percentile. My meeting interview went great but still can't relax until I know for sure. How do you get through this anxiety? The closer it is getting, the harder it is. Need advice on how to handle this without losing my mind.
  13. The interview was actually fun. It was very informal. I was so nervous about it but felt at ease instantly. There were 4 people interviewing you at the same time but they were really nice. I felt they basically just wanted to see your personalilty. Although, I felt good leaving there, I am still anxiously awaiting the final decision. I was hoping the letters went out early but NO!!. I did not apply anywhere else because I really want to go there. I am hoping and praying that I got in. I got a 97 on the NLN. They only require you to get 50 or above so they will be thrilled with your score. That was the first thing that they mentioned when I walked in. They literally gave me a round of applause. I am sure you will get the same so Good Job! Taking Microbiology and English this semester and then Life Span in the summer which will complete all my classes.
  14. Yes, I applied for early decision. Had my meeting interview in December and was told letters will go out on 1/15/07. Just realized that there is no mail on that date, so will now have to wait an extra day. I am going crazy waiting. I applied for the evening/weekend program. How about you? What school are you taking your pre-reqs at? I go to Montgomery Community College.
  15. Thanks Kathy! I am going to go out this weekend and get the NCLEX guide. It's comforting to know that you were able to manage a decent workload along with going to school. I know once I tell my bosses (Doctors) that I am going to Nursing School they will phase me out. Therefore, I am staying there full time as long as possible until I am done with these pre-requisites. Do you work in the Medical field now or is it some other type of work? I know if I get into Abington Nursing School that they can place me in the hospital part time. . I am a Medical Assistant / Biller already so I may go this route when the time comes (if I am accepted -- letters go out next week - the waiting is killing me. :uhoh21: ). I heard it's really hard to get into Montco's program as well. Did you have a hard time getting in? I wish they had an evening/weekend program? Went to the bookstore today to get my textbooks for next semester.Guess I will take a look at them. Good Luck to all! Cathy
