Read this email my NM sent to all the nurses.
I don't have a problem with this email sent by a NM. It is my belief that the situation on her floor became to be problematic that it needs to be adressed to everyone concern. Truth hurts but it sets us free. We just need to be honest to ourselves what kind of job we're doing and if we can honestly say to ourselves that we are not those who abuses breaks or inappropriate use of their time shopping, gossiping, etc. then we should not negatively react with this this email, but rather be glad that a NM is addressing it. It is unfair when you're running your behind on the floor and some other nurses sits around in front of a computer and you clearly see they are looking at a screen other than charting then they will call you because one of your patients IV is beeping within their earshot. These people are the ones who needs this kind of email. But then, just like one of the posts said - do they really recognize themselves? Just my thoughts.

Associate Degree program a thing of the past...
As far as could remember, I had plenty of clinical hours with the BSN program. As to whether ADNs are better prepared to hit the floor than BSNs is questionable to me. Both are still going to have the same orientation and length of preceptorship at the beginning of their career. I haven't posted here in a while, was just reading mostly. I have been hired after 4 mos of looking, working for almost 2 yrs now, it was tough landing a job for new graduates 2 yrs ago. It is not getting better. It is true that hospitals are encouraging ADNs to have their BSN and even offer tuition reimbursements. In a way, it is a way of promoting the field of nursing as a profession. Good luck for the new grads. Don't give up! Something is out there for you

Nursing is not recession proof
Hi all, I feel the frustrations of being a new grad looking for a job and not finding any. I was in the same position, I graduated in May 2009, passed my board in September and started applying for a job, did online, job expos, networking, etc. I did'nt get hired till February 2010 at an LTAC hospital. What did it was my persistence and stopping by every month and checking on my application status, and lo I came at a time when one of their nurses has just relocated, I got lucky but the CEO said, she likes my persistence (or maybe just luck). I would say that keep your hope and be more persistent and aggressive in your job search. There are job postings but they require 1 year experience or more experience. I still have friends who are still looking for an RN position. It is this economy that's affecting everyone. Now, like on of the posters stated above, there are graduates this May who will be joining the pool of jobseekers. The reports that nursing is recession proof is a lie. I've commented on irresponsible articles that continue to report such a thing!

Question regarding job apps and resumes
I filled up numerous website's applications and attached my resumes as instructed. I was never called for an interview. It is best (from my experience)to take your resume to the unit manager(s) of the floor(s) of the hospital (s) you're interested in. I went to that route and got called for an interview in 4 days following my submission. The unit manager will request the HR to pull your application and go from there. Good luck to you.

New RN BSN over 50 and Can't Get a Job
I'm turning 47 in June, graduating this May and now am really worried about this age factor. I don't have any student nurse experience either except for my clinicals and my transition which I'm currently doing. I also thought that there are lots of jobs out there for nurses , hearing about shortages especially when baby boomers retire. Also, I heard about the advantage of a male nurse as they are sought for in this female dominated profession, I really feel your frustration, HoosierMale. I hope you will find a nurse job soon. So nice to read lots of encouragement here!!

NCPs "Nursing Career Plan"
Hi, Your plan to become just a "caregiver" (or a glorified maid as others call it)after passing allthe tests you mentioned to become a registered nurse doesn't sound good to a lot of readers here. I was compelled to answer to this post for a reason that this notion has been pounded on hardly at this another thread https://allnurses.com/forums/f235/filipino-nurses-canada-caregivers-nurses-293583.html. It might give some insights what other people think and feel. It may stir some emotions within you but of course, you're entitiled to construct your own plan. Good luck.

Nurse Bashing
..this is actually one of my major concerns when I become a nurse. I am in my senior year and aside from preparing for to pass the NCLEX soon, I worry about how am I going to deal with nurses who eat their young and not supportive to new nurses. The best I could do is to hope that I'm not going to be discouraged and so threatened that I would turn my back and forget nursing. I wish that God will send me to place to work where nurses can still remember that they were onced inexperienced and be willing to support other nurses especially the new graduates. But, of course- I also pray that I won't be a pain in their necks either.

I didn't get accepted
Hi, there's still a chance that they will reconsider your application to the program. I was denied the first time with a GPA of 3.1 but the letter stated that they will re-evaluate my records after the spring semester. I was denied March 06 but got a letter again after the spring sem same year that I was accepted. I know that from 161 application, they only took 100 students that year. I'm a senior now, so looking back of how diappointed I was (I cried for a couple of days), I must tell you that hang in there. Please reapply over and over until you get your spot or like the other posters have suggested, maybe take the ADN route and do the bridge to BSN. Take care.

I was a ______ prior to being a nurse/student nurse
I was a teacher for 2 yrs in the Philippines after graduating from college, then I work at the post office for 8 years, got married then migrated to the US. I went back to school and had my second degree in Computer information Systems which got me a job as a software developer for a little over a year. Although I wasn't thrilled with the sit-down job and being in front of a computer all day, suffered migraine almost every week, it paid the bills.. then my husband became terminally ill that I needed to take care of him for 2 years until he passed away. I didn't want to go back to computer field so I decided I go back to school again, this time for nursing. This will be my third college degree. I call myself a professional student but I felt the call when I had interactions with nurses and medical workers during the time my husband was in and out of the hospital. I think I can give a piece of myself, too in return of how those nurses took care of my husband. I have 3 more semesters to go. It's so nice to hear other people's account on why they chose nursing. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!!!

Is age 45 too old to start nursing???
I would say no, 45 is not too old - that's only 2 yrs difference when I started the nursing program. I will be 47 when I graduate. There are some other nursing students in my class who are older ans we tend to be the ones who work together in group projects, presentation, etc. As you know, younger people tend to clique to their own group also. Overall, just need to take care of yourself - healthwise/lifestyle and you will be able to keep up with the rest. Nursing program even to the younger ones, you would hear can be difficult and requires a lot of time studying, writing, etc. Good luck!!!

A New 50 year old nurse!?????
I also asked the same thing so many times but then I realized this is what I want and no one can make it happen but me. I turned 45 this year and I'm approaching my junior year this coming fall. I will be 47 when I graduate (hopefully ). There are several people in my class in the age range of 40 to 50 so that gives me encouragement. Good luck to you and keep goin'.

What clinical rotations have you done?
HI everyone, since this thread about rotation, is medical/surgical rotation same as clinicals? I am looking forward to get a student shift job at a hospital and one of the requirements is completion of medical/surgical rotation. I am starting my first clinical this January. Any difference in these 2? Thanks and Happy New Year to all.
