I'm a Mayo Nurse and there's no rumor of hiring travel nurses for Epic Conversion for the Mayo Enterprise.

I'm a FL RN, Tell me why I should move to TX, particularly Houston.
At least it's going up, not going down. I do believe, tho, once the woes of ARM loans is over, property values here in FL will go back up. Don't know when, tho. We don't have state income tax as well. Thanks for the tip. I'm actually considering a travel assignment. I don't know if several weekend trips will be enough instead of taking a travel assignment. I'm glad you love it there!

I was actually looking at realtor.com. Lot a house for a cheaper price there in Houston, and recent study shows house value there has gone up (no 1 in US). House values here are going down because of foreclosures, but I do believe real estate will be better tho after these woes of ARM loans.

I thought property taxes here in FL cost more. Home insurance cost a lot here. Wow, good to know about the soil. We'll definitely consider that too! Thanks!

I'm a FL RN, Tell me why I should move to TX, particularly Houston.
There's just something about TX. I go there almost every summer.. (Well, in Lindale/Garden Valley, that is, as I volunteer almost every summer for mission trips. That will only be few hours drive if I move to Houston) and Texans love being Texans. They are proud of their state and I like that. Re: greener pastures, yes, that's one of the reasons too. Latest research says for our profession and other professions as well, for Salary & Cost of living ratio Houston, TX is No. 1 in USA. And as of home values, Houston, TX is No. 1 too. And also, we want to be half-way (kinda) to our families. My husband's are in California and Branson, MO and my side of family in Jacksonville, FL. I have a cousin in Houston, TX as well. That's some of the reasons. Maybe anyone else has reasons to add? Why to move there or stay put? Thanks!

FL RN for 3 years now. I have a contract here in South West, FL that will be over by the end of 2009. My husband and I are thinking about moving to Houston, TX. We currently rent and want to buy a house in 2-3 years. Should we stay or should we go? What do you love about Texas? Houston, TX? Your input is valued! dona

US demand for Filipino nurses declining - educator

US demand for Filipino nurses declining - educator
I guess because of the OT wages... 1.5 after 8 hrs, 2x after 12 hrs, huh? Bay area..hmm.. I was actually thinking about working there as a travel nurse that way I don't have to pay rent but my husband doesn't like the idea of working there or anywhere near LA county. I hear North California pays more. We'd probably work there or Orange County (would probably pay less) since that's where my husband is originally from, probably take housing stipend if my mom in law would let us stay w/ her.

US demand for Filipino nurses declining - educator
Some 40 percent of Filipino nurses in the United States have undesirable work habits, which could likely be the cause for the slump in the demand for Pinoy nurses I wonder were those filipino nurses are? Coz I have yet to see this in Florida and I've already worked in several hospitals as a travel nurse and have worked w/ fellow pinays/pinoys and they have the best work ethic compared to others.

General Discussion about Filipino RNs currently working in the U.S.
definitely! i was worried about the communication part especially w/ the telephone orders before i started as an rn since english is my second language. but now i don't care if i irritate you as long as i got these orders right, especially w/ the sound the same medications, i'd ask them to spell them for me. i don't care if i wake you up in the middle of the night as long as i can keep my patient safe.

I'm 4'11! The charts racks not made for me, I was like, "they're discrimating against short people" :monkeydance: I don't mind being short, tho...I just get a foot stool or a hook, something to reach the charts.

Oh NO,Did not Pass at 75...tips pls!
I did not pass the first time either, it really is a hard test especially since I am a foreign graduate as well. What has finally helped me was I concentrated on each of the question and that I have set my mind that I have all the time in the world (even if the time limit is 5 hrs, because even if you run out of time the computer will still grade you according to level of difficulty of questions, right?) because that way I didn't hurry and was finally able to pass the NCLEX- RN after so many tries...lol 5 to be exact...lol, yes I went through remedial/refresher course. The last try I waited for 2 yrs before I took it, don't do the same thing I did, don't wait that long, ok? The day before test don't open any book about NCLEX, just relax. And 1 more thing I did, being Christian, I told my family, friends & co-worker the day when I was gonna take the NCLEX and asked them for prayers and I also prayed, "Lord, ur name will be put to shame if I don't pass this test because they know I put my trust in You." Yep, I said that prayer Good thing you only have to wait 45 days before u can re-take, before you had to wait for 90 days. You can do it!!

Hospital in the LA/Orange County area
Tell us then! My husband and I are thinking about getting an assignment there next year. I know Northern California will probably pay more but we plan on staying at my mother in law's condo and get housing stipend and my husband would be able to spend time w/ his daugthers and grand daughters. My husband is from Orange County. moved here in FL since we got married. We'd appreciate ur input!

Travel Nursing While Pregnant
I am 31, I just started traveling, married for 2 yrs. I love traveling but I want to have a baby and we are planning to have a baby in 2009. What we have in mind is save up for the 2 months that I will be off or if I can go back to work in a month, I'll probably do that. My husband does not like the idea of traveling while having a small child, though. What is it like to travel w/ a small child? W/ family? Anyone?

Wow, LOL. I've never heard of such thing here in FL. I've worked in a couple of Hospitals in Jacksonville and here in Cape Coral. They are pretty stingy when it come to narcotics.
