Can't Find a job!!! This wasn't supposed to be this hard!
Yes i agree with everyone! No jobs for New Grads! i graduated in May 08 with and ADN and couldnt find a job till oct and it was a LTC. Applied all over the place got interviews and either they never called back or they said they needed experiance! well hello.....someone had to hire me for that! Then i'm getting the LTC doesnt count as experiance for a hospital - this is in Vermont if anyone is interested. Good luck to us all because i get the same thing from people......what gets me is when you hear on the news the so called "nursing shortage" or in the local papers the hospitals saying they are short staffed for nursing but they dont tell you that they dont hire new grads! so frustrating i'm almost sorry i went into nursing because of this. Left a really good paying job to not to be able to find one! urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How long did it take you to get a job as a new grad?
Oh i am so there with you all. Finding the same story on my end. I ended up taking a job at a nursing home and will have had almost 6wks orientation before i'm done. Its just so frustrating. Thinking of relocated next year if i have to. This whole nursing thing has been nothing but a struggle and battle up hill and i'm getting tired or struggling with it. Every time i hear there is a nursing shortage i want to blast the newspaper article. Got the same responses from my friends too about "how come you dont have a job yet with all the nursing shortage's out there?" try and explain to them its because i dont have experiance for those jobs....blah blah blah. They dont get it.

New Grad.....How long?
I am so frustrated with the job market. I graduated as an RN in May of 08. Because i had a long couple of years with first loosing my husband to cancer and then going to nursing school.....i wanted a couple of months to relax and regroup. So i when sept came i went out to look for a job in Medsurg and couldnt find one because they all told me their new grad positions had been filled in June and they were not hiring any more new grads till NEXT YEAR...I have heard this from multiple hospitals around. 5 to be exact. Now i am at a nursing home. I'm not saying its bad...at least i have a job but my concern is - how long do i have to wait to not be a new Grad anymore and i'm afraid my experiance in the nursing home will hurt me when i go to apply in a hospital - like their going say.....well your technically still considered a new grad! Then i have heard that there is a stigma attatched to Nurses working in a nursing home and have been told you dont want to stay too long because then you wont be able to get out.....is this true.......can anyone give me any advice on what to do? Thinking of sucking it up and going back to school for my BSN.....I am feeling jealous of all the other nurses in the hospital doing the things that i want to do and learn.

Anybody Pass 108 -110 Question
I know its hard to not focus on the number but i passed with 211 questions! For sure thought i failed but didnt. So you can never tell. Good luck and i'll send a little prayer up for you. Try and get some relaxing in. You worked hard through nursing school and that says a lot.

lab values for the nclex
For me I mean hyperthyroidism, hypo, Hyperglycemic, hypoglycemic Addison,Cushing's ..... and infection control! I studied all those and got hammered with infection control. Many priority.....who do you see first??? SATA questions - those i just did the best I could because I didn't know.....honestly. But I passed with 211 questions so I must have known something I guess....ha-ha.

1 week till I take the NCLEX and I am freaking out!!!
Try not to worry about how many questions you got. I took it thursday and got 211 questions! I thought for sure i failed. At one point in the test i was thinking to myself I dont know a thing! I am so not prepared for this! Really felt i guessed on every answer. My other classmates took it and it shut off around 75-150 so imagine how i must have felt. Anyway, just found out yesterday that i passed!!!! I was shocked - that couldnt be! Everyone kept telling me - i'm sure you did fine. But unless you have been there and taken it - nothing feels fine until you get the results. Hopefully with each day the anxiety of waiting will decrease. Hang in there. I will send a little prayer up for you. I have never been so stressed out in my life. So many years of stress and anxiety with school and then one test!

I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.
Kelly93084 - Good luck tomorrow. Remember to just breath. I wanted to puke when i was done with mine. I thought for sure i had failed because i could only remember the ones i got wrong. I passed and it shut off at 85. The class i was in was with 29 other people and they all passed. Remember to keep telling yourself - you know this stuff and you can do it. If you dont know an answer move on and dont obsess about it. Its an awful thing that we can make it through nursing school and then it all depends on one test. But this one test is not the end of the world. I believe some of my classmates got their results on Saturday. I remember being obsessed about checking every 1/2 hr the morning i was able to get my results. Remember always patient safety, ABC's and LOC. Although, i got a lot of select all that apply and drugs i had never heard of before and still passed. Like i said - take deep breaths and keep telling yourself you do know this stuff. I wish you all the luck.

Dialysis Question for a friend
Hello all. I am inquiring for a friend. Her father is 72 and has been told he needs dialysis. He has told his daughter that they are putting in a "stent" this week for when its time he needs dialysis. Her question is - in all of your experiances in this field - does that mean he will be doing dialysis soon? Or is this standard practice to place this stent in months/weeks in advance to prepare for dialysis? What are your thoughts on this for time frame once a stent is placed? Thank you all in advance.

Is it possible to have such a passion to Oncology??
i am in my second year of nursing. the school i go to requires you to achieve your lpn first and then acceptance to their rn program. so i am in the rn program because i have such a passion for oncology. i was able to get my school to give us a rotation into the oncology department in our first year (lpn) because of my passion. the class loved it and got a great experience. my question is to those of you out there...is it possible to bypass the med surge floor and go straight into oncology? i want nothing else but to oncology. it is because of my life experience, that is where my heart is, and that is what drove me nursing.

LPNs glorified Techs?
Hi all. I have to do a debate for school on LPN -vs- RN and the team i am on is taking the position that there is not a difference. I am interested in what states some of you are from and if you find there really isnt a difference across the nation - only the difference of the states scope of practice. Thank you so much.

Vermont Technical College
I did all my prereq's prior. So i had at least one day off a week. I worked only on friday and saturday nights and sometimes just saturday nights because we had our tests either on friday's or mondays each week and sometimes both monday and friday were exams. Second semester is more demanding then first because your only doing one day of clinicals but second semester its two days and dont forget you have to research your client and all there meds so that cuts into your studying time. We had a lot of people that had to drastically cut back on their work schedule. But Part time is duable. It is a lot of studing and reading i felt but focusing on the nursing interventions is the key to the studying. Congrats on the acceptance! Hope that helps.

Vermont Technical College
tqbotu - I attended vermont tech this past year and just graduated in June of 07. The LPN course is 10 1/2 months. 3 semesters and the RN program is 2 semesters. So far everyone that has taken the exam has passed. They have a 100% pass rate. If you have any further questions please ask me. Good Luck.

I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.
Scoobydooo & Kanidiot2 - I know exactly what you are all talking about. I woke up Monday night after i took the exam at 3 am with diarrhea and dry heaving it because i was for sure i failed and had put all that time into schooling for one exam! So i know what your feeling and it is normal - although not pleasant but normal. It was the longest 48 hours of my life and nothing anyone said made me feel better. I had to check 2x to make sure that it actually said i passed. Scobbydoo as for the number of questions no one really know's what determines pass or fail by the numbers. I have heard that sometimes the computer just makes some people take all the questions. Hang in there its almost over. I will send a prayer up for you both for passing and peace. The only thing that seemed to help me was this website to know i wasnt alone.

I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.
Scoobydoo - dont beat yourself up. I couldnt eat for 2 days and was up every night tossing and turning with my heart racing and my mind felt like it was out of control. When i checked this morning i was so scared and just wanted to puke - prepared to take it again in 45 days. I kept telling myself its all right you'll be fine either way but my mind was racing with every question i knew i got wrong. I would have bet my house that i failed. I swore that i got them all wrong. It is in alwful feeling for days to have to wait. Believe me i know and i dont ever want to feel that way again. I couldnt even think of one question i got right. Please let me know what happens. I will send a prayer up for you. Hang in there i know it sucks waiting - i was right where you are right now.

Woke up last night at 3am in a complete panic...kept running threw my head all the questions i know i got wrong and the computer shut off at 85 questions!! I am sick to my stomach and dont feel good about it. Tons of priority question, select all that apply and drugs i had no idea about!!
