What punishment should this nurse get?
a verba; reprimand would be appropriate, but where was the rest of her colleagues when this happened? Don't you people check on each other? What kind of teamwork is this? she was performing one of the basic tenets of nursing care and you want to hang her? What ever happened to helping your coworkers?

New LPNs Working for Agencies
Hello I am an LPN and I work agency. I have been a nurse for eight years. You should NOT try to work agency until you have some experience, as they don't teach you on the floor or give you any orientation. You need to get a year or two under your belt then you will be good to go. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but I was told to work for a year or two when I graduated into med/surg and I believe this has been the most beneficial advice I was ever given. Because of my solid med/surg background I have been able to agency, travel and almost anything else I have wanted to do as an LPN. Jimmie

"Doctor" Nurse
This person is not practicing Nursing. They are practicing medicine without a license. It sounds as though he doesn't want to even be thought of as a Nurse (a title of which I am proud of BTW) I say "GET HIM"! :)

First Code
You know, you did very well. You can't even say that codes get easier. Sometimes you wil be attached to a patient and that makes it hard. You did what you could do, bless you for that. :)

Are you in Nursing for the Caring or the Cash?? Be Honest
The main thing I remeber from school is that I was working as a CNA in my off school hours and we had a baby and that my wife and I would sometimes be eating hot dogs or ramen noodles or peanut butter sandwiches, borrowing money for gas for school and to pay the electric bill so I could see to study. We had no phone and the car was a total clunker. Most jobs in my area of California didn't pay very well for unskilled labor and looking forward to that paycheck kept me going THROUGH nursing school. I went into school to become a nurse, because that is what I felt I was meant to do. As we all know, the paycheck could be better (to bad i don't play pro sports) but there is nothing wrong with getting paid to go to work. Because you get a paycheck, you are able to go and comfort that dying patient or care for that person after surgery. If you had to volunteer your time to do that, would you be able to? Probably not if you were trying to feed a family and were not from an affluent family. The socio-economic factors of your classmates may keep money in the forefront of their thinking :) .

Is there a need for more male nurses?
I may be way off base here, but could it be that when they say "we need more men in nursing" they mean it from a standpoint that it is a "women dominated profession"? It would be akin to saying we need more women in construction, or basket weaving or whatever, to bring nursing to a closer ratio of men to women? I myself would like to think that it is because they would like to see the profession equally populated with men and women. :)

Are u extremely organized and meticulous?
Thank goodness for this thread! Now I don't have to go to the MD for even MORE medications! (jk). My house is like a post apoctoliptic (sp) area, but at work I am the epitomy of prioritizing and time management. Thank to you all for making me normal! heheh

Class Pins. Do You Like Yours?
The origin of the concept of the nursing pin dates back to 1855 when Florence Nightingale was awarded a broach by England's Queen Victoria for her efforts in the Crimean War. The pin was designed by the Queen's husband, Prince Albert, and consisted of a red enamel cross surrounded by an oval and topped by a diamond crown. BTW the school I graduated from it was their first nursing program and I thought the pin was UGLY hehehe Hitechlvn

Just "knocking people out"?
Can you elaborate on the question? I would like to know the tie in from your title to your question. Does it involve using chemical restraints or sedation? Or are you saying "why not just knock people out to keep them quiet"?
