  1. I have felt since becoming a Hospice nurse that I am so glad I had the experience I had prior to this job. With Hospice Homecare you spend alot of time alone and make alot of decisions somewhat independently. Since you have spent time learning the Hospice philosophy you know what it is and you probably already have it in your blood. But as the nurse it is very draining emotionally especially if what you try doesnt work for a pt you love. I cant see me doing anything else now but am thankful for the experience that I brought to this experience. Good Luck, we need more like you!
  2. Atropine 1% opthalmic drops 2-4 SL q4 works great and can dry up most secretions.
  3. undefined Where I work we have 5-6 rn's on every week-end, we have been averageing about 15 admissions a week-end. Our coordinators dont ever say no, many could be done during the next week but it is our policy never to turn anyone away. During the week our evening person can do admitts but usually they go do a tuck in and we finish the next day. Week-ends have been a real bone of contention lately because its so much work to do a admitt and then if we have 3 in 2 days that means alot of home work so its finished for monday. It is really crazy, we cover i think 6 counties and service about 300 pt with hospice and home care supportive care. Whew no wonder I'm tired. Linda :uhoh21:
  4. HEY SUZYK, I'D LIKE TO KNOW-HOW MUCH NURSING YOU'VE ACTUALLY DONE,OR HAS YOUR CAREER BEEN SPENT IN SCHOOL BETTERING YOURSELF?????????
  5. I dont know i once had a patient that had molested his step daughter and when about to be arrested shot himself in the stomach so he could come to the hospital instead, i rather enjoyed in a sick kind of way changing that bandage and hearing him moan in pain, opps didnt i give you that pain med before i did this-hmm i really meant to!!! But for the most part i think a certain kind of person becomes a nurse, most of us figure it out without any one writing it in a book and the ones that dont find a different way to use their education. nuff said
  6. i hate sponge bob what a dork!!!!
  7. I WORK 3 12'S, OT OVER 36 A WEEK, NIGHT SHIFT GETS 1 DOLLAR SHIFT DIFF. NON-UNION ECF
  8. At least 2 people have said that if they get called doctor they always correct the person referring to them as that--nuf said!
  9. I work 7a-7p 3 days a week, works for me with the kids. But I love my week-ends when the admin. isnt there, at least I can relax once in a while.
  10. I AM A RN SUPERVISOR ON A SKILLED NURSING UNIT IN A LTC FACILITY. I USUALLY WORK THE FLOOR CARING FOR 23-25 PT.'. I AM ALSO USUALLY FOR SOME PORTION OF MY 12 HR SHIFT THE ONLY RN IN OUR 150 BED FACILITY. I AM SO TIRED OF OTHER NURSES THAT WORK IN A FREAKING HOSPITAL ACTING LIKE WHAT I DO HAS NO MERIT, I WORKED IN THE LOCAL HOSPITAL AND THE FIRST NIGHT OF ORIENTATION HAD 8 OF MY OWN PT'S AND RAN CIRCLES AROUND THE OTHER NEW NURSES THAT WERE WORKING ON A VERY HIGHLY ACCREDITED STROKE UNIT. I DO THE SAME THING YOU DO, IF I CALL REPORT YOU KNOW EVERYTHING FROM WHAT HIS LAST MEAL WAS TO THE LAST TIME HE THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING A CRAP, GET REAL, EITHER YOUR A GOOD NURSE OR YOUR NOT, ITS NOT ABOUT WHERE YOU DECIDE TO DO IT.
