  1. I graduated LPN in 1999, we started out with 42 people and graduated 17. All of us passed our boards.
  2. Most places cover you for malpractice up to 5,000,000 per occurance. If you carry your own insurance you are more likely to be named individually in a law suit. Lawyers will find this out.
  3. My days off are the best but the patients are great too
  4. doing 12 hour shifts is great because you only have to do 3 of them for full time and then you get 4 days off a week
  5. If you work nights and work close to home you can get the kids to school and then get some sleep.
  6. All of the local hospitals will sponsor you if you have education in nursing in your country. You will start as a CNA until you pass your nursing boards here. Call them and find out.
  7. The hospitals you talk about are very clicky. You either fit in or you don't and God forbid you don't. You won't get any help from others and your orientation will be the pits.
  8. With the present nursing shortage you don't have to do anything that you don't want to. You can quit today and have a new job tomorrow
  9. I work at a facility that the LPNs make $21.75 an hour and a $3.00 shift diff for evenings and nights. We also have a baylor program where you work 24 hours and get paid for 40 hours every weekend 12 hour shifts. That comes to 33.50 per hour
  10. I think that people are going into nursing for the wrong reasons. I think that it has become only for the money not for the satisfaction of taking care of a patient. Not for the reward of having a patient say thank you and you can walk away feeling like you did your best. If anyone is going into nursing for the money, do us all a favor and don't. Grumpy nurses give us that care a bad reputation.
  11. Working in long term care is sometimes difficult because you work on your own. There are no doctors there and your assessment skills may be the difference between life and death for an elderly person. I think it is very rewarding to put a smile on the face of someone who only gets visitors on holidays.
  12. I get my books at amazon.com. I spend alot less than at the bookstore and they are good quality, most are still in the wrapper.
