Henry Ford Hospital has a RN-BSN onsite program!
thats the same issue i had, i heard its a great program. but i don't think i want to be committed to work for hfh for three years and on top of that it takes three years to finish the program. hfh is a great hospital, but who knows what other oppurtunities in possibly other health systems may come along within that time period.

Heparin
One of my patients was on a heparin drip that was infusing through an IV pump they also had IVPB antibiotic due at the same time. I called the pharmacy and asked if the two were compatible and they said it was okay to piggyback the abx with heparin. What do I do in this situation, do I let the abx run and then restart the heparin (which just dosen't seem right to me) but I'm just not sure?

Does every new nurse need to start on med surg?
definitely not...you do not have to start off on a med-surg floor. i currently work on med-surg now and i am already burned out. i still don't know what i want to yet, i'm looking into outpatient work but i heard there is a big paycut. is this true?

Was this my fault???... just need to let it out
I personally don't think you did anything wrong. The ambien and xanax were given four hours apart so I don't think the medication was the cause esp. after you stated that his sats have been running within normal range the whole night. I think his respiratory failure was contributed to something else, don't blame yourself. I believe the other nurse was wrong for judging your decision like that, nursing is a forever learning experience, and no one is perfect.

Now I understand why there is a nursing shortage
I understand how you feel, you have to be assertive and know how to effectively delegate so your job could be somewhat satisfying. I believe med-surg is one of the busiest areas of nursing I'm seriously thinking about transferring to L&d or maybe an OB/GYN clinic.

Quitting after 4 months.....
Hi, nursing can be extremely stressful at times, I've been a nurse for a year now and I totally empathize with you. Have you really thought this decision over? Is the stress of the floor the only reason you want to quit? Are you currently working in the specialty of nursing that you desire? All of these come into play, I started off in the ER right after school, and I felt very unfulfilled and I really thought about leaving the nursing field all together, but I decided to move to another specialty and now I'm a lot happier. What type of unit do you work on? Honestly, med-surg is one of the most stressful areas of nursing. Let me know how things go, I wish you the best.

NCLEX was not easy
i took the nclex last august i passed with 90 questions.i've noticed that most people with shorter tests tend to pass more that those with a longer test, but that is not always the case.saunders and kaplan helped me alot. its extremely hard to actually know how you did on the test, i thought i failed after i took it, and i've heard that they're raising the passing standards in april.
