Age when you had your first child?
1-daughter at 16 2-son at 21 Not everyones best age but for me it has worked. I dont feel that I missed out on anything as a teenager and now my kids are now 18 and 15 I have the money to enjoy myself more than I would have then. Of course the best bit is I have two ready made friends to enjoy it all with lol

American thinking of working in London
I work in the Midlands in England and to be perfectly honest Nurses in London do not get paid that much more than the rest of the UK, and the extra they get is swallowed up very rapidly by the higher cost of living. From my point of view I couldnt afford to relocate to London myself even with the higher wages. With that and the state of the NHS at the present time I dont know how you would fare. No harm in continuing to look into it though

Question for night shifters
I work all nights and my system depends on the number of nights off I have. Less than 2 = i sleep majority during the day and up at night (it usually means I have had split nights that week) 3+ = I try to find stuff to go out and do and stay up all day then have an early night (before 10pm or 'ping' I am wide awake lol) and sleep as late as possible- sometimes a full 12hrs. That usually kick starts me into daytime mode. My night shifts are often lumped together to make up to 8 in a row therefore often giving me a week to recover so the 3+ is usually the rule for me. Before my first shift I have a late night (wine and a movie work well) then sleep late, hopefully till 11 am and thats me till next morning. To be honest though you will end up finding your own best routine eventually (hopefully before it kills you LOL)

Has anyone here ever put a doctor in their place?
I have on numerous occassions......everything from incorrect prescriptions to talking down to me. One i can remember was a doc that ordered me to get "gelofusin stat" twelve times in two minutes and finally shutup when i suggested that if they finished messing about with the IV access I would be able to sort it and by the way I managed to understand the request the first time it was made. LOL how meekly did they go off to their next job of the night.

Why are OR nurses so mean????
My thoughts exactly. I have never worked in OR but I have worked with my fair share of b***hes. There seem to be a great many people who would rather go to the bosses with their gripes than take you aside and say it to your face. Dont let it sour you too much but I agree to you leaving that particular OR

Please just stop...VENT
Well done I applaud you. Like the two other female posters I dont like whiners either. When I started reading this thread I thought you a bit egotistical/ idealisic but now you have learnt to deal with them and differenciate between the types of classmates you have you are well on the way to putting up will all the whining you will hear from both colleagues and even worse from patients (you said their whining was different but if you listen it isnt that different, they argue with nurses and medics about treatments and diagnosis not to mention the everyday niggles of a bored patient lol). Good luck with your future and dont forget to set aside a little time to moan yourself it helps you feel closer to colleagues who know what you are going through.

You know you work nights when.......
When you look at the clock at 5am and are full of malicious glee at the idea of all your colleagues crawling out of bed for the dayshift

What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?
LOL The first nursing home I worked in had a similar patient.... She always had a tin of wrapped candy on her table but never seemed to eat any. One evening I went in to her room to take her supper tray in to find her popping a piece of candy in her mouth and replacing it with another 'candy' then carefully re wrapping it and placing it back in the tin. She had been carefully rolling faeces up and wrapping it..... Thank god she never offered me a candy lol

Share The Weirdest Reasons Patients Push The Call Light
I had a patient who regularly pressed the call light to ask me where his eye mask was (one of those things to shut out the light).......................it was usually pushed up onto his forhead where it remained until he called me again. lol
