WGU MSN in 6 months
Rarely do I get caught up in these kind of threads, but this really has my dander up! Despite mclennan's assertations, those of you who are considering enrolling in WGU BSN or MSN program will be challenged by the program but it is very doable. I suppose it's like everything- you get out of it what you put into it. As stated earlier, you gain knowledge through research and writing papers, with an occasional objective exam in certain courses. There are NO required discussion boards and your progress through the program depends on the amount of time and effort you put into it. BSN can be completed in 6 months or less and MSN anywhere from 6 months (rare) to 1-2 years- it all depends on the student. You WILL learn a lot, particularly different ways of looking at nursing. WGU may not be for everyone because it is independent study, requiring commitment and organizational skills. It was a great fit for me-I will be a little sorry when I'm done because I have enjoyed it so much!

WGU MSN in 6 months
How many courses have you done since October 1st? It can't be too many, and if it is, then I applaud you for your ability to fly through the program with ease. Most of us are going back to school to learn something and are taking advantage of the opportunities WGU offers to EARN our degree. I'm only jealous that you know it all already and don't have to work for it.

WGU MSN in 6 months
I take offense to the monkey reference also. I am almost done and it was not easy and was very time consuming. Unless things have changed, there are no discussion boards requiring a person to post either an assignment or a reply. There are community boards that you can participate in, and there are opportunities to post your thoughts in some of the courses of study, but these are not required. Any of them that I have read are hardly atrocious in their content or delivery. Are you sure you are really attending WGU mclennan?

WGU class name equivalents
I'll answer this the best I can related to my own experience as a going-on-2 month student at WGU. BBC 1 IS basic college level English. I had to take it, much to my chagrin. But, it is not hard if you have strong grammar and writing skills. It is an objective assessment, no papers to write. If you have had college English composition or similar, you will probably meet the requirement and not have to take it. Language and Communication Research- QBT1 ?? This was called LAT for me (and I just passed it). It involved writing a basic research paper which was time consuming. Literature, Arts and the Humanities was not fulfilled by any of my sociology/psychology courses in the past. I have to take this. Quantitative Literature: Statistics and Problem solving IS statistics, and I think the requirement would be met if you had any statistics in the past (I didn't). Biochemistry- I had a regular college chemistry w/lab umpteen years ago and they accepted it. I think the lab portion is a deciding factor. Either that or I got lucky since I don't have to take it. Behavioural Science and Issues in Behavioural Science were both satisfied by my college courses umpteen years ago (I'm old). I think I had Intro to Psych, Sociology, and Social Psychology, which satisfied this requirement for me. Hope this helps

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
The webinar on the community board says that you do not necassarily have to use a researcher, you can use someone that uses research. I used a CNS from our ICU that helped develop evidence based order sets. If you really get into a pinch, you can email the course mentor and they will send you an interview to use. The webinars on the community page are very useful. THey outline exactly what they want in your paper. There is one webinar for each task in NVT2.

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
Good advice, I think. I started out by dutifully reading all of the assignments, but think I am going to just start focusing on the tasks and reading what I need to complete those. The reading is good and interesting, but hard to absorb all that information. Still waiting for results on task 1 in NVT2 which I submitted 10/12. Autonony was a short section for me too. Also, if you haven't figured it out yet, if you watch the recorded webinar by the course mentor that is found on the courses' community it gives you great insight on how to set up your paper, what the graders want, etc. I didn't discover it til I was halfway done with task 1- it would have saved me A LOT of time if I would have viewed that first.

I submitted my first task in NVT2 today, working on the other 2. Citing references was the hardest part and the thing I am most nervous about. I have PERRLA which helped in writing the body part of the paper, but it was still difficult entering the information for the references, since I got all of them online. We'll see....

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
The facebook idea sounds good to me. I like checking out WGU facebook page too. I completed my first task (of 3) for NVT2 today. I just got my AAV on Thursday night, so I feel I'm off to a slow start. I'm also waiting to be enrolled in a couple of Mylabs, which won't be til "on or around the 10th". Can't start the class til I'm enrolled. I can tell right now that time is going to be my enemy. All I want to do is dig in and study, but work and chores seem to be getting in the way! Oh well, it's only been 2 days:D

I peeked at several of them and maybe I shouldn't have- it is almost overwhelming to think about all that work to do! Can you say "cold feet" "buyers remorse"? Ok, deeeeep breath here and I'll be fine.

Wow, I never would have guessed that there was going to be so much info! I love it! I'm down to Mod 9 to complete, then DONE! Thanks for the info Krissa about being able to view the COS. That will keep me busy this week while waiting for courses to open up.

Module 2 completed. Going to take a break now. I don't think there is a huge rush because I won't speak to my mentor again til Thursday, so there will be nothing else open for me until then. I'll use the time this week to peruse the communities. It feels good to get started!

Got my emails too. One from my mentor, I have to send her a time when I am available to chat and "get to know one another'. The other re: EWB preparation. Guess the homework is starting! Yay!

I have hit a brick wall!
I wish I had the magic " get your groove back" medicine, but I don't. I would be upset too. It doesn't make sense to me why an RN has to go back and take A&P. It doesn't sound like you are going to change the requirement to take these courses, so just try to power through them the best you can. Of course this is easy for me to say, as I have not started yet, and I'm sure that brick wall is waiting for me too....

I also work full time, Mon-Fri, PACU and PreOp. I have to take statistics, Algebra, Humanities as well as the nursing courses. Am hoping to finish BSN in 1 term. I am enrolled in RN-MSN, education. Can't wait to get started!

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
I'm losing complete faith in them regarding an Oct. 1st start date. They still haven't done my transcript evals, and they're asking for a money from me for tuition that is due this Monday. Yeah, right. This is a concern for me even though I have been admitted with an October 1 start date. I began the process June 8, with the hope (and expectation from them) that I would be on target to start Sept 1. Because of delay in transcript review, then appeal, then re-eval, I got pushed back to Oct 1. It was a frustrating experience. Ultimately I am satisfied with my transcript eval and my proposed course of study, but because I now have some trust issues with them, I just hope there are no surprises. THey have not bugged me for money yet. My biggest fear is that once I pay, could they tack on extra courses? As in "Oh, I'm sorry, but we can't accept your A&P after all?"

Vaccination Waiver Please Help Quick!!
It is my understanding that the healthcare institutions that are mandating the vaccine (and the trend is that they all are moving toward it) are somewhat different in how they handle those who refuse vaccination. Some are going to let employees go, others are going to make you pay by requiring that you wear a mask whenever you are around patients during the flu months. FWIW, I have gotten flu vaccines yearly, beginning when it wasn't even "in style" to get one. I have never gotten the flu, nor had any adverse reaction to them. And I know that I am doing my part to not infect my compromised patients. It also makes me feel a tad better when I'm standing next to a sniffling, honking, feverish kid at the grocery store.

You are so right Angela. I didn't think I would ever do this- been out of school a long time and am quite comfortable in my skin. I don't have any particular need to put myself through this, but I believe that we choose (create?) paths to take in our lives that lead us to where we are supposed to be. It is exciting and scary to begin these new journeys.

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
Approximately 2 years, which I hope is close. I am hoping to get through the basics as quickly as I can. It has taken me from June 8 (first contact with WGU) til now to get enrolled. It took a long time for my transcript evals also. Honestly, I was ready to give up on them and explored other online programs, but found that they are all pretty much the same in transferring credits. It's just hard to beat WGU tuition and the ability to move at your own pace through the program. Just hope I made the right decision!

WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?
It's official! I am a WGU student in the RN-MSN program beginning October1st! I had my intake interview today, which is just verifying personal information, answering any questions I had and making sure I understand how the program works. I am not pleased about having to take Foundation Math and English, along with 2 other English and 2 other Math courses, but I am thrilled that I don't have to take Biochem, A&P, or Microbiology. The enrollment counselor told me to do something nice for myself cuz I will be VERY BUSY after Oct 1st. GULP, think I just upset my happy quiet little life!

WGU lab kits
How long do you have to keep those little gems in your house? Do you have to store them in your fridge?! Ugh. Guess you will be working fast on this competency!

WGU RN-BSN in 6 months??
The entrance exam isn't bad. I brushed up on math and algebra by googling some math sites and doing practice problems. I got a 95% on the math portion. The English "test" was writing a short essay on a topic they give you (no specific knowlege needed to write it). I think the purpose is to assess your usage of the English language, writing paragraphs and using correct punctuation. They said I did well on it, but I didn't ask my score. (They can't tell you your score, but you can "guess", then they will tell you) lol. That said, I'm not clear as to what the purpose of the examinations are. I still have to take college math and a couple of English comp classes. I am hoping to speed through them ASAP. Good luck

WGU MSN
Hi Lisa, your ears must be on fire- several of us have been wondering what you're up to. Glad to hear you're on track for the MSN- did you originally sign up for the RN- MSN, or did you just sign on for RN-BSN in the beginning? I want to do RN-MSN, but do want to get the BSN in the middle. WGU has been kind of slow getting the transcript review done for me, but that is done now, so I think things will move faster. Keep us posted on your progress and any helpful WGU tips and tricks!

I would definitely be proactive and get those course descriptions if you can. I emailed someone at my CC ADN program and she emailed me the course descriptions the next day and I just forwarded those to WGU. One of the holdups on my transcript eval was the issue of the CLEP tests on one of my colleges' transcript. Since there was no explanation of the CLEP score, they apparently just stopped reviewing both of my transcripts, which I didn't know until I called my enrollment counselor after waiting 2 weeks. THey wanted me to send a formal notice requesting the math and english be dropped off that transcript before they would evaluate the rest of it. Didn't make sense to me, but I did it and it moved more quickly after that. Bottom line, keep in touch with your enrollment counselor, especially if it's been over the 10 days they say they need to do the transcript review.
