  1. Exactly! In my level III we classifiy each patient by acuity. The acuity options are I, II, III, or IV. The acuity determines how a patient is billed, among other things. Just thinking that maybe your little one was an acuity IV patient at some point.
  2. We used to secure cpap that way, now we use the hats with the velcro straps.
  3. Hey, thought i'd share a story here. I have seen IL in a spinal tap from a Picc that had migrated into the spinal column....um no wonder the baby crumped out. We now do ap AND cross tables on all lower extrem. PICC's for placement.

I understood what you meant. I work in a level III NI and we are alway so short staffed and pull from the well baby nursery first, then peds if need be. I was just statng earlier the likely hood of a peds nurse going into the NI before an L&D nurse, at least thats how it is where I work. So I would assume that it would be the same for changing jobs. Although the NI is different on so many levels and whether you have L&D, peds, or NBN experience you will still get the same orientation no matter what kind of clinical experience you have, I would think.

Peds nurses float to the NICU and NICU nurses float to peds, but I have never seen a L&D nurse float to the NI or vice versa.
  7. Never. Or course we don't have the giraffe isolettes, atleast I don't think so, never seen one to tell you the truth.
  8. No false nails or long nails where I work however not sure if the policy states an exact length since I keep mine short anyways. No jewerly whatsoever execpt stud earrings and of course no watch.
  9. We finally got some Vygons in and already used a few. Actually just the other day one clotted off on a baby and we had to pull it. Very scary pulling it because it is very elastic and when you pull it gets tension like its going to snap. So far our unit doesn't care for them and they are harder insert (so I have been told) and tape comfortably for the babies.
  10. I am so sorry you have gotten the reaction that you did. I think organizations like the one you mentioned are great. They promote networking along with great service projects, etc. I just can't believe that the first response to this thread was spoken the way it was. I have seen several thread edited and closed because they used the 'four letter word' that was in post #2. I believe the first response to a thread is the most important and sets the tone for the following responses, and to think a moderator would start it off that way is just amazing. Just my opinion. 11. I am a member of the Coke Bottle Glasses Club, and have been in contacts since I was 8. They let me in nursing school and never had a problem with reading/seeing anything, I doubt you will either. Good luck, Brandi
  12. We must all have the same anxiety and fear...we can probably do a great Psychological care plan, ha ha. Just a few more months and we are done, I cant believe it...my how time has flown. Brandi
