My preceptor states that I am having "tunnel vision" with my patients. Like I need to learn how to better focus on all of them instead of getting tunnel vision each time I am caring for one. I need to learn to be constantly thinking about my patients, regardless on who I am caring for at the time. I've also made minor documentation errors here and there. No major mistakes or anything. I have extended my orientation mostly due to the fact that I don't feel confident with the skill set that I have.

Hello ER Nurses! I started in my ER in August and have extended my orientation twice (it was only supposed to be 8 weeks and I am going on my 11th). This hospital is relatively new at starting new grads in the ER and I'm not sure if this is a long enough orientation. So my questions are: how long are your hospitals' orientation programs and what do they consist of? Mine was a mix of ER classes and clinical floor time. I don't feel like they could have whipped me into an ER nurse in 8 weeks, but the other new grads seem to be doing fine. I was a CNA, unit secretary and nurse extern in telemetry and ICU as a nursing student. ER was new to me. I should have followed my gut and gone to a telemetry floor first. I know that tele floors are busy as well, but a different kind of busy than ER. I read previous threads about new grads in the ER, so I know almost everyone concurs that new grads should go to a floor first.. But until I transfer out, I would appreciate tips on how to survive and thrive in the ER..(books to help me, what helped you..etc.) Thanks in advance.

I studied for 4 weeks and did about 2000 questions on the computer. Kaplan questions only. Good luck studying!

Hello. I am also from CA and passed recently with 75 questions. Waiting is a pain in the a$$! But I did not wait very long. I was surprised when my results were up in 2 days (took test Wednesday, found out Friday). For many people, it takes a little longer. The time you wait has no bearing on how well you did! In the meantime, I would advise you to drive or fly to nearby Las Vegas and party it up (that's what I did). Just do things that will take your mind off of the wait. I'm sure you did great. Keep your head up during the wait and don't let it get the best of your patience!!

I took the test last week and passed with 75 questions. I had a ton of priority, infection control and TEACHING! no delegation whatsoever. I'm sure you did great! Good luck!

I just took mine on the 26th and passed with 75 questions. My test was filled with priority questions, infection control and a TON of teaching. I wish you the best. I'm sure you did great! Usually patient teaching questions are in the application/analysis level..which are high level questions. But it would be inaccurate to judge your perfomance based on the type of questions you got. 1. how many questions did you take on nclex? 75 very difficult questions that covered all aspects of nursing. no repeat questions on any areas! 2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? i used saunders comprehensive review book and took a kaplan review class. 3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)? ati testing which told me i had a 99% probability of passing the nclex the first time. 4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 2 days, which surprised me because ca does not participate in the quick results program! but my license number was up in 2 days on the brn website. 5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? i felt like all the studying i did was for nothing and i was pretty certain i had failed. i also felt very unsure of myself and my answers!! the wait was excruciating! 6. was this your first attempt at nclex? yes!! and i passed!

i have to say that the nclex questions were almost identical to the questions in kaplan's question trainers. i attribute my success on the nclex to kaplan. it is worth the money..get it! and good luck!

Kaplan questions are almost exactly like the NCLEX questions. Saunders is great for comprehensively reviewing all areas of weakness. But I seriously attribute my success in the NCLEX-RN to Kaplan.

You are doing very well. I don't think I got over a 65% on those question trainers..my highest was a 65%..i was getting between 55%-65% on those things! And I've heard of people scoring lower and passing..so you are definitely on your way to becoming an RN!

Well hello all! I just wanted to share with all of you guys and gals the news that I have PASSED the NCLEX and am now a full-fledged official RN! I walked out of that test feeling unsure of myself and certain that I probably failed. My test covered every area and specialty of nursing and I never got any of the same topics twice. Thank you for all of your support and advice as I waited for my results. I'm surprised I already have them as I am in CA and we don't have the quick results option like most states!! To all future NCLEX takers: two words of advice: Kaplan Review. And good luck!!! I found out in Las Vegas over the weekend. Las Vegas is the best place to find out about passing the NCLEX, apparently. )

Yes! I am trying to breathe, but I feel like I can't take a full deep breath until I know my results. Either way, I would like to know just so I can have closure already!! Anyway, thank you for your kind words, I will definitely let you know when I get my results...

Thanks Elfy. I feel like I really took my time on that test, and if I failed, I'm not sure how to approach the second one..I felt cool, calm collected.. I knew at least 5 of those 75 questions..the rest were educated guesses. Right now I have a big lump in my throat and chest. I feel like I can't breathe a full breath until I find out these results. Whether I passed or fail, I would just like to know how I did...waiting is the worst part. I hope to hear good news from you in a couple of days. =)
