  1. buying my books early and reading... :) I have three kids so it helps a ton to get ahead while I can...
  2. I strongly agree with this post... If you cannot readily see a therapist, follow the link I provided in my previous post and do searches to learn ways to overcome your fears... If I lived near you and could afford it, I would go with you lol... Don't let the stigma keep you from getting the help that will make your life so much more enjoyable and accomplished...
  3. i am not a first time student, but i have had every one of those fears at one time or another... especially when it applies to the nursing profession... i am going to go ahead and post a link that may help you deal with some of these thaughts... http://www.anxieties.com/panic.php the way i cope with those thaughts is this: as far as i understand, getting into the nursing program at my school can be difficult... i have researched what they look for in prospective students and focused my attention and energies into exceeding those requirements and qualities instead of worrying about the decision they will make when they get my application... watch out for thaughts and attitudes that would cause you to give up on your dreams before you even have a chance to try... i used to nurture the idea that failure was not an option... this mental excercise was hollow and meaningless because i know that sometimes people do fail... to cope with this fear, i realise that i may fail, but that failure is not the end to me living a happy and productive life... instead of worrying about failure, i focus my attention on learning how to succeed... i fear that i am not smart enough so i study how to improve the power of the mind to learn and retain information... i also know that i may not be able to learn the material as fast as the other guy, but i am willing to put forth the extra time and effort to do the best i can... to overcome this one, i trust that the education and training i receive as well as the effort i put into it is going to prepare me for the position... is it possible for me to make a horrible mistake in the future? yes. am i destined to make such a mistake? no! hope this helps...
  4. I am speechless... :roll :chuckle
  5. Make sure you look up the prerequisites for each of the courses also... The school I go to requires a semester in biology as well as chemistry before microbiology can be taken... I am assuming at this point that A&P I is going to fulfill the biology requirement... Also take advantage of www.ratemyprofessor.com... You don't want to necessarily pick the "easy" teachers but it is a good tool to avoid the sadistic ones... Good luck... John
  6. I think a visit to the nursing advisor may be in the cards for me lol... Thanks for the info...
  7. In the prerequisites for the bsn program, it listed either... I think I will take the general though because I want to be as proficient as possible...
  8. Sorry, meant chemisty... I saw where someone was saying they were taking Intro Chem as a good thing and we can either take intro or general chem... Was wondering how different the two classes were and should I take general for it to look better when I apply for nursing school or go for the intro chem for simplicity...
  9. I actually have the fear of not getting into nursing school because I am an older student with a spotted collegiate record... My grades have most always been decent, but I did not have the maturity to ever finish... My brother's experience gives me hope and maybe it will others also... He was denied into the nursing program because of his GPA but he wrote them a letter and said that if anyone dropped out to please give him a call and they would not be sorry... Well, someone did drop out and they called him... He ended up raising his GPA to a 3.7 by the time he got his BSN... He went on to graduate school and only made a single B and the rest A's in his masters program at UT... If you get passed up, write them a letter expressing your sincerity and willingness to take someone elses place if they drop out... Just may work for you... Good Luck, John
  10. Thanks for the list... Very helpful...
  11. If this was any other industry, I would mind my own business. I have seen quite a few married and dating couples work together and in every single case, there were days when their fighting over personal issues poored over into the work place. In this industry, that kind of distraction can lead to someones death. Leaving a bad morning with the spouse at home is much easier when you do not work with them. Just my thaughts...
