Start seeking a better position with more support/nicer people to work with while you are there learning. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself against these bullies. You didn't get this far being an idiot, you can and will learn how to do this job. Make it your own until you can get out of there or are able to teach them how to treat you. Figure out what is most important to focus on each day and keep telling yourself that everday you are learning and getting better. Talk to everyone there you can to seek information, refer back to your job description. It took me prob at least a year to feel confident. Now I am with almost 3 years experience and finally feeling competent LOL.

Try contacting your local politician's office where you will be moving in PA. Try looking up local Committee Persons, Senator's, Local Representatives. They have helped me with licencing issues in the past. Please don't give up on your dream. If you look at my old posts you will see that I had an undergraduate GPA of 2.29! I have been taking my pre-requisites for the past 2 1/2 years while working at a job I hate and was accepted into an accelerated BSN program starting in September. This was not my first choice, but so what I am in. I am quitting my job in two and 1/2 weeks from now and will be done by Christmas 2009! Don't give up! If you can't stand it get another job in the mean time but start your prerequisites and do your best. I earned straight A's in all to prove my self to the schools. I am 43, you are just a pup. If you don't start now you will only look back and regret time wasted. Good luck to you.

I am starting school in September and have just purchased a pair of Easy Spirit AP1 white leather walking shoes. I have a pair of these from before and they are super comfortable & lightweight. I just want to start off with something that I know fits and is comfortable for me! They come in all different sizes. Try the Easy Spirit website as they are less expensive there than on other shoe sites.

I worked for Friends back in 1997-1998 as a secretary for one of the psychiatrists. I don't know about how they treat their nurses. My pay was decent and I loved the nice grounds there, they have a beautiful garden and landscaping. I remember the cafeteria was excellent with a good discount for employees. I also lived close by so the commute was great.

Holy Family University has a program for a BSN that can be done at night and on weekends. I did my prerequisites at Community College of Philadelphia at night and on the weekends while working full time. Most of them I could take in the northeast, but a few I had to do downtown at 17th and Spring Garden Sts.

I did really lousy for my undergrad (2.29 GPA!) long story, switched majors a few times and had to withdraw due to a near fatal car accident. Anyway this was over 16 years ago. For my prerequisites I have a 4.0 for 7 classes done within the last 2 years. I am taking two more this summer. I think I did well on the interview and had a strong personal statement and application. Although I was not a first choice at Temple I was put on the waiting list and I got in because a few people declined and they had upped their enrollment from 12 students to 42 this year. So I would definitely persevere in your efforts. Just keep trying and applying! I have heard to reapply if you do not get in to your top picks the first go round. Sometimes they will take you on a second or third try.

Hey thats great!!! Drexel was my first choice but they turned me down. I spoke with Temple yesterday and they said that I will receive a letter soon. Now I am having cold feet! I feel like I am getting married or something. I guess I will be married to this career now. Ha. Since everything is now set in motion I am worrying if I am making the right decision in my life. I have been working on my prerequisites for over two years now so this is not a fly by night decision. My sister and best friend are both nurses. I have been reading on this forum and others for years. I have worked in the healthcare field. So I know what I am getting into. Someone asked me the other day why I wanted to be a nurse and I froze up and then started getting annoyed. I am tired of explaining my situation to everyone. After that crazy stressful time of trying to get into nursing schools I don't want to explain myself anymore. How come if you say you want to be a nurse everyone wants to know why?

I was called last week and accepted into the accelerated BSN program at Temple University starting in the fall of 2008! This is after I already made my decision to go to Holy Family University and was all set to go, did not need to do another thing but show up. Now I have to take two more prerequisites with labs this summer. I just jumped through those hoops last week and today to get my classes dropped/added needing three signatures from people that were impossible to find. I will have to get all the paperwork re-done for Temple, physical, background checks, etc. I will have to quit my job, so am stressing out over when to tell them and still have not received anything in writing from Temple. Going a bit nuts as now this is all happening so fast and is all a reality now. I am changing my whole life. Feel like I have taken the plunge off of the high dive. There is no turning back now. If all goes well I will be a nurse by December 2009!

The interview was a group interview. This was for the accelerated BSN program. There were only 7 of us there (I believe 12 were scheduled). I was told that they only accept about 10 students out of around 90 applicants, although they were trying to get funding in order to accept more. We sat around a conference table, talked/asked questions for about 10 minutes then were instructed to interview the person next to us for about 10 minutes and then introduce this person to the group. We were given an article to read and had about 1/2 hour to write an essay in response to the article. All in all this was a very pleasant interview. I am anxiously awaiting a reply from Temple now. We should hear within the next few weeks. My entire future plans hinge on this letter so it is making me a little crazy. I will be relieved to find out one way or another and be done with the waiting game.

Hey good for you! It's a good feeling to be accepted. I was accepted to Holy Family University for the fall of 2008 but am awaiting a reply from Temple University now. Everyday I check the mailbox. I am taking my prerequisites at CCP. If Temple is a no I will start at Holy Family this fall, but then it will take me 4 years to do this. I don't care, I can't go through the process of applying anymore. Plus with Holy Family I can still work for a few more years and just take things slower.

I have an interview with Temple University for their Accelerated BSN program for the Fall 2008. Anyone have any ideas on what to expect? The interview is scheduled for an hour and 1/2 with one of the nursing instructors. I hate interviews!

Just wanted to let you all know that I have been accepted to Holy Family University for the Fall 2008 program as a transfer student. I am still waiting to hear from Temple for their second degree accelerated BSN and will go there if I get in. I am relieved that I got in somewhere! Drexel turned me down and just for a back up I went to CCP to apply for their ASN program and was told I would need to take Bio 106 because I hadn't had it for over 10 years. I just got done Bio 109, 110 & 241 and earned A's in all and they said I would still need to take 106 and could not even apply! I was starting to get really depressed and fearing that I wasn't going to be accepted anywhere. So now I am relieved. The only problem with HFU is that it will take 7 semesters which is 3 1/2 years to finish. But I could still work. So I am on my way! One way or another I will get this BSN!!!!!

I currently hold a BA in Psychology and am looking into a second degree in nursing. I have been considering going for my ADN instead of a second bachelors degree. Would this be a waste of time? Would being an RN and having a bachelors degree in another field qualify me for BSN positions with an ADN? Or should I concentrate on going straight for the second degree BSN? Any replies would be helpful. Thanks.

I did not get in. I received my letter last week and was denied admission. I am disappointed but am trying to believe that this was just not the program for me. I will be applying to other schools now and trying to concentrate on my remaining prerequisites. What a drag!

I believe that Drexel Univeristy has a pretty good reputation here in Philly, I am not sure about the nursing school though. I know the ACE program has only been up and running since like 2000. The old nursing school was at Hahneman Hospital I think. I am awaiting my acceptance letter for the Fall 2008 ACE program. Is yours for Spring or Fall 2008? Since this is a second degree program they probably don't feel like you need all the letters of recommendation and what not.

This is also the only school that I have applied to so far. I am getting ready to apply to Temple. That is where my original degree (Psychology 1992) is from. My GPA is really low, 2.29 but I have earned all A's in my prerequisites so far (I have a 4.0 at CCP). I have taken 5 so far and am currently taking Microbiology 241. Next spring I will be taking Chem 110 and then I only need to take a computer course for Drexel. For Temple I would need another chem course. I went to an open house last year for Drexel and I think I remember them saying something like they get 800 applicants for 200 spots. Something like that. Who knows. They told me that if I could get at least a B in all of my prerequisites I would qualify. I want to get in also as I really really don't want to take that other chem course, plus the other schools make you have an interview, send in letters of recommendation and just the hassle of getting your transcripts together. Blah. Plus for Jefferson if you don't have a 3.0 in your original degree you must take the GRE's. I would have to study for a year for that. My son goes to Masterman so I want to be close to him at least on the days that I am in class!

Does anyone remember how long it took to get an acceptance letter from the Drexel ACE program after your application was complete? I applied last year for the fall of 2008 and my application was complete about a month ago and was wondering how this process works? Should I be bugging them? Thanks!
