tele/step-down nurses pulled to ICU
but also i think that you did the correct thing by telling the charge that you were not comfortable in accepting the patient load/cases - very responsible to take action - ive seen nurses that do not say anything and run around flipping out because they know they should have said they were uncomfortable

tele/step-down nurses pulled to ICU
i have been pulled to ICU before as being short and had worked on tele/pre/post cath floors however in my hospital there are obviously times were there are not enough beds for the icu patients and then icu/ccu patients overflow into tele beds - so there are times when you have those patients on the tele units when you know they are more critical, so on top of the usual tele patients you may have 2 that are more critical and really it seems as though those 2 take up most of your time as some ICU nurses have a 2:1 ratio instead you have tele and you have a 4:1 or even 6:1 depending on the staff so....alll in all you have in these situations 2 potential ICU patients, then your 4 tele you have to take care of ---

Pacemaker RN?
A device nurse like the previous post is kinda the handy-man for say of the EP doctor - the nurse specializes in knowing the types of devices, how they are implanted, types of leads implanted into the heart, what type of device is used for type of dx i.e sick sinus syndrome, if a patient needs resynchronization due to HF sxs etc for 2 examples - they usually become trained in how to read device settings and how to change the device settings to better the patient based on if they are symptomatic with high/lower hr's, if they are being shocked more often for say VT, etc. - its actually an interesting field hope that helps

CVN certification....

Salisbury University
I also agree that it is a matter of opinion and i also think it depends on if you are a traditional 4 year BSN student or if you are an RN to BSN transfer - the courses are somewhat different if you already have completed the ADN program from another school - i am currently atteding Salisbury and agree that the school is excellent. The faculty are helpful you just need to go talk to them. If i were you i would make a trip down to the school for a visit and meet with some of the faculty - they may even be more than willing to give you a tour of the nursing department - but you can also go to the academic house and sign up for a tour of the entire campus. Hope this helps!!

Help! How to Study for NCLEX
i've checked out that website i think my thing is i've paid so much in review courses i've taken 3 - one when i graduated, the hesi one and then the ncsbn online and i dont really have the money to afford another one plus i am a full time student completing my bachelor's degree in nursing so it is kind of hard to work and do school, and do nclex...now it is summer so work is not a problem and neither is school everything can be fully focused on nclex... any other suggestions please? anyone know about the davis book? or mosby book? or mosby flash cards? or i guess what is the best book to use???

Help! How to Study for NCLEX
hello all, i have been struggling passing this dreaded nclex and there are usually 3 reasons people don't pass: 1. knowledge deficiet, 2. test anxiety, 3. misreading the questions i have taken the test before and have been unsuccessful. i have studied out of kaplan's book, mosby's book (which the questions are pretty difficult in this book), nsna book, medpubs, ncsbn online course, hesi review course does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start to try to start studying again for this horrible exam? and the sad thing is its not knowledge deficiet as i have worked with a nurse educator and we have narrowed it down that i am misreading questions... i need some help please.... should i make note cards to questions that i get wrong? should i start over in one book and do all the tests and then the ones that i am not getting a good percentage of the questions right review the material ?? how many questions per day? what books are the best to study from?? if anyone could help it would be definately appreciated - i am planning on taking my exam over in 45 days...
