Anyone applying to Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia for Nov 2012 interviews?
no news. not sure what is going on with the school, heard they have a lot going on right now (internal). I guess they are not sure how many students they can take this class. Don't know if anyone has been taken from the alternate list. ????? Hoping for ECU start 1/2014. Will be working on that application next.

Anyone applying to Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia for Nov 2012 interviews?
Have not heard a thing since the alternate list. Don't know of anyone that has either. I have given up hope for class of 2015 . I have enrolled in a GRE prep course and plan to retake that and beef up my application. Will have the three core courses completed by summer. Hoping for next year.

Anyone applying to Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia for Nov 2012 interviews?
Just wondering if anybody on the alternate list has heard from RSNA regarding admission? I received a letter over the weekend acknowledging my return letter and that I was indeed on the list. The letter did not tell me what number I was on the list.

Anyone applying to Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia for Nov 2012 interviews?
Yes, I have applied to RSNA and Wake Forest Baptist. I received an email from Baptist saying the application is complete, waiting to hear about an interview. Also applied to RSNA about 4 weeks ago, still waiting on a supervisor evaluation to be sent in. I am currently taking the core classes at UNCG.

Working for MUSC in Charleston South Carolina?
Just left MUSC in December. I was on assignment there for 9 months. I worked on a med/surg floor (7w). the pay was only 22/hr. The nurse: patient ratio was good 1:5 nights and 1:4 on days with free float charge days and nights. Charleston was great! Lots to do!!

Don't laugh, but... what if I throw up??
Here is what I do: Bury your nose in your arm pit and take a big wiff of your deodorant-- then hold your breath until you just about pass out and then repeat!! works every time!!

Anyone travel to Arizona???
Was in Phoenix last summer. YES summer, that was my biggest mistake. People said "Oh, but its a dry heat." DON'T BELIEVE THEM. It was CrAzY hot!! I want to go back in the winter and spring. I worked at John C Lincoln- North Mountain on 6east! I was treated like gold! Very traveler friendly! 1:4-5 pts on tele with techs. Loved the job! Pay was 30/hr. I was housed at Mirador, it was very nice, situated on a golf course.

does anyone else feel like a glorified maid?
Hey!! I felt the EXACT same way!! You are going through REality SHock, i think someone posted it before. I had the world's greatest preceptor though! She got me through it! I was seriously considering quitting nursing and going back to waiting tables. Even flipping burgers at Fast Food places sounded better to me! IT GETS BETTER!!!!!!!!!! TRUST ME!!!! Yes family members are annoying as heck! That probably won't get better but you'll learn how to deal with them! I did switch to nights though soon after my orientation period. I like it better, family is usually asleep, and then you get to be the annoying one- like turning on the lights and beeping machines. You'll always have lazy co workers! ALWAYS! but you'll learn how to deal with it. Keep your head up! Try to find a book on nursing humor or read the funny threads on here! Hang in there. IT will get better.

Anesthesia Technologist
hey tookewlandy! I see you are from Pittsburgh! Go Steelers! I went to anesthesia tech school in Pittsburgh at Western School of Health and Business Careers- downtown Campus. The program was not bad, but it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo over rated and NOT worth the price. I went in '99-01. They were not accredited at the time- so none of my credits would transfer out of allegheny county. It was such a rip off:angryfire , i think the cost of the program was like 14k, not including room and board. The program was a stepping stone for me. I think of an anesthesia tech as a nursing assistant to the nurse anesthetist. It was not enough responsibility for me. Never worked as a tech. Went straight to nursing school after i graduated from Western. Did a 400hr internship and the job was not for me. Looked for a job after graduation for the hell of it- allegheny was going to pay 8.00/hr, St. Francis 12/hr, mercy was not hiring at the time. I wouldn't have been able to afford to live in Pittsburgh on that. I don't regret going to the school because it got me into nursing, my goal is to become a CRNA. Right now I am traveling and having a blast. I wish somebody would have told me to skip the stepping stone and go to nursing school. Hope this helps

Ever Walked Out On An Assignment????
Never "walked out" but quit. It was my first assignment. It was horrible. My travel agency said that it would look bad on my "record" and recommended going back. I was stupid at the time and believed everything they told me. I had made a list of all the unsafe things that were going on. They said it would cost me thousands to break the contract. I told them it was unsafe, and I did not agree in my contract to work in unsafe conditions. They asked me if I did incident reports on everything. Well, Of course NOT! I hardly had time to think, let alone mess around with their ridiculous system. I finished the contract. I will probably never work in Florida again. And I do not recommend American Traveler. I had the hours counted down on that assignment. :angryfire

"YOU'RE my Nurse?!?!?"
Don't try to change yourself. Just be confident. People always think I am a student. They always ask when I will graduate. I just tell them I have been a nurse for 3 years and traveling for 1.5. The older patients think I am a med student or resident. Take it as a compliment- you are working as a nurse at a young age.

Headed to San Diego in August... Hospitals/housing??
Hi! Worked at UCSD- hilcrest campus (main campus) in their 5 IMU. It was probably the poorest hospital I have worked in. It was extremely busy- especially night shift. It seemed like all patients would be transferred at change of shift. Sometimes i would transfer my entire assignment and have 4 new patients by 2300. It was CrAzY!!! I will never go back. But the manager was great- she would help on the floor. Help turn and clean patients. I dreaded going to work every night- I don't recommend it. I went with Medical Express. The housing was awesome- La Mirage! Pay was like 26/hr. I was there summer/fall of 2005.
