  1. Do things that bring you joy. What is more important in life than having fun and happiness?
  2. Follow your dream.. focus on present, try your very best to get the best possible grades.. and then re-evaulate at the end to see if your grades are adequate to get you a seat in the nursing program. NEVER give up your dreams. you will regret and come back to this point if you give up now. :) stay cool!
  3. I found this article - I think this reflects a lot of the conflicts that we discussed here b/t DNP vs MD. http://www.studentdoctor.net/2010/10/nurses-push-for-bigger-role-gets-powerful-ally-2/
  4. Most of nursing schools in NYC (NYU and Columbia) do reqiure you to have MSN prior to DNP programs. I do know that Hunter is working toward getting their BSN to DNP program (its going to be a 4 years full time program)approve by the state now. Hopefully this program will be available soon, by Fall 2011.
  5. Hi, I am actually going through a similar situation as you now. I am working as a RN for a little bit now and been thinking about grad school. I am thinking about getting into a NP program, also debating about the MPH program as well. I talked to my professor about the DNP program. It is a movement that the nursing profession is trying to up their standard of practice for advance practice nurses. In the hospitals of NYC, majority of them no longer hire associate degree nurses and if you are hired as an associate RN, you must enroll in some form of education program working toward getting your BSN. What my professor told me was that as of now, they do want to up the standard of practice for NP to DNP; however, its an unrealistic movement as of now due to inadequate DNP programs out there to accommodate all these changes. Also, my concern for the DNP program is that this level of nursing practice does create a lot of confusion of the role between a medical doc vs. nursing. DNP is too new of a program, I dont know what to expect ahead of this. If the DNP is stepping across the line to medicine, I am sure there will be criticism from the medicine side. What i was told was that under the New York State Law, there is no difference between practicing as a NP vs. DNP. So dont forget, there are questions about the scope of practice for DNP.
  6. I am sorry that it happened and I must say its a horrible feeling. I have gone through a similar situation when i was a student nurse. The insulin pen pricked through the patient's arm into my thumb. I was horrified. However, its important that you follow up with all the blood works, 2 weeks, 4weeks, 1 month, 3months and then 6 months. The situation seem really scary, but I encourage you to be strong and believe that you will be fine at the end. :)
  7. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OF YOU!!! i am going to take it on March 1 ... > but i am going to take AP II in this spring 07 semester.. so now i am just learning the stuff by myself..
  8. It seems a lot of work!!! I am planning (not decided yet) to take nutrition I, AP II, Microbiology, and sociology... do you think its a little bit too much? i am debating >
  9. Hey.. its nice to hear that everybody is getting excited to have microbio =) Tonight when i am trying to register some of my courses for Fall 07... for my school, i have to take APII, Microbio together in this semester.. but since all of these together will just count 7.5 credits (APII - 4.5 and Micro - 3 credits)... so i have to take another 2 courses just to be able to declare myself as a full time student... personally, i really like nutrition and i would want to have a nutrition class... do you think it is a good idea to have like 3 science courses + one more regular course in one semester? I am pretty okay w/ sciences, but i have to be honest, they are hard as heck!! last semester i took AP I, Organic Chem, literature class and one psy course.. it was really pain in the butt to have these courses all together... so i am debating.. > any suggestion? thanks
  10. You have to be a Hunter student first in order to be qualitifed applying to their nursing program. No one accepts to the program directly.
  11. Hey guys. It's so great to learn about NYU nursing, and i am a Hunter student. I am going to apply for hunter nursing for Fall 07, while i am applying to NYU nursing too. I have been working on my applications, and can anyone tells me about NYU's nursing program? What kind of things are they looking for in their applicants? Do they have interview for potential applicants?? Thankss.
  12. Merry Christmas!! Yes, i am attending Hunter now and going to apply for their program in this coming March. Hunter's nursing program is really competitive and there are about 300+ students apply for it each year, and they will pick the top 80 students. Oh yea, i've heard from the nursing advisor that they are going to change their admission criteria next year w/ 25% based on GPA, 25% NLN, 25% Interview, and 25% on a writing sample. Good Luck.
  13. Hunter has an excellent nursing program, and i am going for it at the end of this year. One thing i need to remind you is that hunter's nursing program is really competitive. I heard there are about 300 students apply every year and only 80 seats available.. so whoever rank in the top 80 based on their gpa and the score on the NLN will be accepted. i hope i will get in, and you have to take 2 years of pre-requisites in order to be qualified to apply for this major. So you are like gambling with your time and $, since there's no guarantee of acceptance. good luck.
  14. Congratulation to you!!! how exciting is this... good luck =) i am just curious, did you take BIO 100 and 102?? Theres this part in the exam - General Bio, did Bio 120 cover the material? I am worried that i will not be able to answer the questions from General bio since i dont rem anything from HS bio
  15. I dont like hunter's nursing program honestly.. it's so competitive and students waste two years and still dont know if they are able to make into the program.. some other schools, if you want to go for nursing and you are already automatically in the nursing program and the only thing you have to worry about is maintaining your grade, cant get any grade that's lower than a B or C. things work so much simplier..
  16. one of my friends is in Stony now and she told me that it's very competitive to get into their nursing program, she told me that for each year they only accept about 20 ppl out of all applicants... yea, did you do any practice exams for the NLN? i gotta take it next year March.. so nervous about it.
  17. Did you apply to other school? Try other school if you have trouble in Hunter.. my dad's friend's daughter didnt get accept to Hunter Nursing and she transferred out to some SUNY school for nursing and she's a registered nurse now and earn like 70K each year.. how did you do in the NLN exam? was it hard?
  18. i am going to apply next year.. so i still have like 10 months to study for the exam.. i am just so worried with that exam, cuz i know i cant score high in the voc/verbal part.. -.-!! oh yea, and now people are telling me that the math part of the actual exam is harder.. so i am pretty screwed =( I think for the science part, i should be okay with Chem and physics (i took ap in HS).. and next semester, i am going to take Bio 120 and Chem 120.. so hopefully that will help. =) and yea, i am going to take a general bio course in BMCC in this summer, just to re-learn the basic stuff again, cuz i really dont rem anything from HS.. (it's been like 4 yrs already!) and the pages # scare me. =( But i know i will work hard for my future =D have fun and get ready to enjoy your summer.. i am going to take like 3-4 summer courses. damn it.. (one of them is undecided)
  19. THanks for the info.. it's really helpful!! =) I have been doing the practice exams.. my study guide is RN Pre-Entrance Exam, by Mary E. McDonald.. did you do the same practice exam? Actually how's the life in the nursing program tho? i know it's TOUGH, but do you need to study all the time? (oh well, this is my first year of college, and stupid school has been taking me all the time from doing anything else! grr)... Yea...my gpa is not bad.. (but i got so pissed off with myself today cuz i got my first exam grade with a B for the first time in this semester! -.-!!) I need to learn more new voc. for the exam.. good luck to you! =) and thanks a lot..
  20. that's great!!! >=O did you apply to other school while you were applying to Hunter? Oh yea, did you prepare for the NLN exam? I bought this study guide, but my friend told me that the actual exam is much harder than that.. so i dont know > Oh yea, in the application (to apply for nursing), what they ask you? do they ask your to write an essay? i am thinking to volunteer in hospital this summer, just to get experience.. (i worked/volunteered in summers before, but right now, i want to actually get more experiences about the field.) thanks a lot..
  21. Have you heard from Hunter yet? I wish you luckkk =) did you apply to other schools?
  22. Congratualtion!! i am finishing up my first year in hunter now, and i am curious what's your gpa and the NLN score.. my gpa is not that bad, but i am worried for the NLN since i am seriously disadvanage when it comes to the verbal part.
  23. I am finishing up my first year in Hunter and planning to go into the field of nursing.. i know the hunter program is really good, but really competitive as well (that's why i am killing myself for the grades!! and finals are almost here!! > thanks
