Who gives your baths?
I work on a rehab unit with up to 15 pts.Night nurse have 5 pts where we do all cares toileting, all meds,IVs, dressing changes, vs, colostomy, tube feedings, no tech so there is really no time for showers. We can have 6-7 pts if we have a tech. We wash people up if they need it but ot/pt does some showers and day shift will do some if they have time. We do the best we can.

And today's specials are...

New nurse here...slapped today by patient.
I had worked long term care as a LPN for about a year. I have been punched in the face, slapped, kicked, pinched and one tryed to bite me. I have never done anything to causes this behavior. They were confused so I really dont get too upset about it. I have told people in thier right mind that I will not tolerate being cussed at, threatened, groped, hit and if they continue to do this, (I make sure they are in a safe position rails up call light within reach) and leave the room and tell them i will come back in a few minutes to check on them. They usually calm down and have a better attitude when I come back.

Need help choosing 1st job....
I feel the same way you do about med surg. I dont hate the task but I hate the crazy run med surg can be. I think in icu at least it is a controlled chaos and I think you would have more backup help if you needed it. I would go for ICU.

June 2008 NCLEX support group
I took my nclex in houston today.I felt ok before the test but after I just want to puke my guts up. In nursing school I got a 99% chance of passing 1st time on my ati comprehensive predictor but I am still having a major freak out. After the test I went to my fav restaurant and drowned my sorrows in mex food and 2 pineapple magaritas. I cant wait to find out if I passed.

New ADN grad needs advice
I worked as a LPN for a yr while I finished my RN program. I am waiting on a background check to come back but I am being offered a RN hospital job good pay/sign on and because I had supervising experience in ltc in a few months they are going to make me the charge nurse.

LPNs Supervising RNs
I went through a bi-level program where I got my LPN and then my RN. I have worked long term care as a charge LPN and have at times been in charge over the whole facility on night shft. KS law requires a RN to be working in the facility for 8 hrs of every day. RN when present was over me technically but I was in charge of my wing and did skilled charting and passed meds and tx. The difference for me btwt LPN(I took the IV cert) and RN is more advanced OB and psych and advanced med surg which meant dealing with more complex health issues and central lines. I think overall we need to respect what people contribute to the field including CNA, LPN. I have called myself a nurse since I passed the board for my LPN and I proudly added I am a LPN. I take my board for RN this Thursday and after passing will proudly tell people I am a RN.

Can nurses with MRSA work?
I have heard of this before. The nurse who had it was placed on adm leave for 2 weeks with pay until her cultures came back negative. I guess it depends on the hospital.

Crazy things patients say.....
I had one patient who referred to her genitals as Texas. She said" I want to make sure no one can see TX." LOL I was trying so hard not to burst into laughter. LOL:chuckle

GN position
I am in the process of moving from KS to Houston. Two of the places I did clinicals offered me jobs but of course I told them I was moving. I have 1 yr as a PCT/med surg and almost one year as a charge nurseLPN (IV cert) in LTC but I have not heard anything from any of the hospitals I applied to. I applied to UTMB Galveston and HCA. I am starting to get worried. I graduated with my RN in May 2008.

Taking NCLEX but went to school in another state
I went to school in ks and applied to TX BON. I took 2-3 weeks longer for me to get my ATT than my classmates. I think it is worth the trouble to get it in the state were you are going to work rather than go through the hassle of trying to transfer the license. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!:wink2:

Listed as new GN on BON web site?
I applied to TX and I noticed I am listed as a GN. YEAH!!!
