Do any detroit area hospitals offer the weekend only option?
All of the DMC hospitals offer it. You get paid an additional $8.00 per hour and it's also called weekend cadre'. Good luck

I didn't get all this education to wipe behinds!
To be more precise, there are no "glamorous" parts of Nursing. However you some nurses who think that dosaging meds, paging the MD, and delegating to CNA's supercedes clean a patient. Like I stated I'm a CNA and currently work as a Student Nurse, so i know of the many responsibilities of the nurse. However you have MANY!!!!!! nurses that feel that these types of tasks are beneath them. And yes plenty sit at the nurses station chatting and reading magazines. I had a nurse yesterday that started her shift by sitting at the desk. She didn't come onto the floor and asses her patients. She immediately sat down from 7am until 10:30am. A patients family asked for pain meds for the patient, I went to let her know the patient was in pain, it took her over an hour to get the patients meds. All the while she sat at that nurses station. Whenever I needed help turning or cleaning any of her patients I had to ask some of the other nurses to help me. So Again you have these types of nurses that make it hard. And believe me there are TONS of them. :angryfire Alor of them feel that the CNA is there to do what they don't want to. The nurse I spoke of before told me "she wished she could just hand me her meds to pass, and let me chart for her she wan't in the mood to deal with the patients of their families." It sickend me to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off and to have someone like this have no regard to help. AGAIN CNA's are assistants. I truely respect the nurse that understands this and respects that CNA. Many tend to look down there noses at those who don't make as much money or have as much education as they do.

I didn't get all this education to wipe behinds!
My pants immediately bunched when I saw the title of this thread. I'm a CNA/Nursing Student (07 BSN Grad). I feel that a nurse all patient care is your responsibilty, from charting, med pass, communication, feeding and yes wiping behinds. CNA' can't be held solely responsible, why? Because really there is no patient vs. CNA ratio. Often times a CNA can have anywhere from 6 - 12 patients. There's no way that CNA could be everywhere at everytime a patient needs to be cleaned. That CNA has to deal dressing and cleaning contracted patients, showers, bed baths, feeding, vitals, blood sugars. And mutiply that by 12. Care of patients is the responsibilty of all nursing staff. We didn't got to school to only to the glamorous part of nursing. We went to provide the best possible care and give our patients the utmost respect without comprimising there dignity. RN2bKatie said that patient may not view a nurse the same, after the patient has witnessed them giving there meds and cleaning them up. I totally disagree, the patient will respect you more. Why, because you took the the time to make them feel better in a situation that's already hard for them. Think how hard, and maybe embarassing, it would be for you to not be able to clean yourself. You'd be extremly grateful to the person that did it for you. It's called a complete realm of nursing.

CNA vs. LPN vs. RN
Well here's the thing. Yes there's CNA training everywhere, but because it's so easy to obtain, there are more CNA's which means less good paying CNA jobs. Yes you can work in a nursing home, been there done that. But it's really hard work. If you're going to do CNA do your pre-req's while working as a CNA. I can say working as a CNA gives you some insight into some of the nursing field. That way you can find out if taking care of others is really for you. Let's face it, anything worth having is going to require hard work and determination. You'll also have some sacrafice to be made. Just in case you're still looking at LPN, there's a school in Ohio called Brown Mackey College, you're done with LPN in like 10 months. If I don't get into the RN programs that I'm applying for soon, I'm going there. Best Wishes.

Please Help
Go to www.allnursingschools.com you can enter the state and look at all nursing schools in the area. If I'm not mistaken, Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Ferris State, and Grand Rapids Community either offer no waiting list or part time. Check them out. Hopes this helps.

Started A&P 1 today
+Hey there Andy, I would love to partner up with you. I had the experience from hell this past semester. My school allows us to take AP 1 or 2 in any order. AP 1 wasn't offered this winter so my counselor told me that I could take AP 2. I did it and was lost the entire semester. I recieved a D. I'm really upset, because of course I have to take it over. Anyway I start AP 1 tommorrow. And I'm pretty enthusiastic, even though I have the same instructor from the AP class that I just failed. Hopefully things will go alot better this time around. If you look at some of the previous post there are links for AP slides and all sorts of tools to help you suceed. Hope all goes well and hope to hear from you soon.

U of D Mercy McAuley School of Nursing
- Relo from Michigan
Hello There, I'm a nursing student in Michigan looking to relocate to the Nashville area. I've obtained info about Nashville and it's surronding cities from the internet. I'm engaged with a 3 year old daughter, so obviously looking for a family oriented neighborhood. I'm also curious about wages for new grads and RN's in the Nashville area. Any info given is very much appreciated.- OMG I feel terrible
Well I was just on my schools website, it appears that A&p I&II are both being offered this summer. Do you think that I should take them together.- OMG I feel terrible
Thanks for the words of wisdom. But I've been sitting here thinking and I think I'll keep the A&P II for the summer. Reason being is now I know what to exxpect from this course. I was really caught off guard before, I''ll tough it out. Summer semester literally starts in one week. So I should be ok.- OMG I feel terrible
I just finshed my A&PII winter 06' semester. Grades were just posted a few minutes ago. I recieved a FAT D. I am so upset. I didn't take A&P I yet. My school doesn't teach A&P I in the winter, and also don't require that you take them in order. SO all semester I've struggled, but I didn't feel to bad because everyone in my class struggled. After every test my instructor would always state the class everage as beibg in the 60% range. He actually posted the grades outside of his office yesterday. Out of 100 students there were no A's, 3 B's, and the rest C's, D's, and F's. I feel like such a failure. All that I do is think about nursing school. I decided to drop my other classes that I registered for this summer, and re-registered for the same A&P II course with the same instructor. Ironically he's the only instructor teaching this course. I wanted to transfer to another school this fall. But I'm scared to send them my transcripts, which I planned to do this week because they'll see the big FAT D.What should I do? I feel so discouraged. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- U of D Mercy McAuley School of Nursing
Hey there folks, I'm transfering from Madonna to U of D this fall. Is there anyone here that attends McAuley School of Nursing. Do they have a wait list? How's campus life? And are their requirments really hard? Of course I've tried to find out as much as possible on their website. I have applied online and will send my official transcripts from Madonna this week. I have spoken to one of the admissions counselors, of course they don't tell you to much because they want you to transfer. Also if anyone is recieving financial aid and attending this program, does your aid cover your total expenses. I know they are very pricey ($6k) per semester. Any info is much appreciated. - Relo from Michigan
