I had to make a comment here. WCCCD, in my opinion is a horrible program for nursing. I WAS in the nursing program. In my group that started in Jan of 2008, 77 out of 120 failed! To me that is a sign that something is wrong with the teaching, not just students. There are instructors that do not teach. They belittle you in class. Saw that first hand. Alot of classes are self-taught, which I cant do. My med/surg instructor told us on one particular test that if we scored higher than a certain percentage then she would assume you cheated, because no one can score that high on her test! What kind of BS is that? Your supposed to go to her after class, on her schedule to discuss your test. You go and your treated horrible. Even in some cases seriously put down. I know we are adults and shouldnt need a hand to hold..but there is this thing called respect..just because we are students does not mean we need to be talked down to like children. On the other hand..there are some instructors that are awsome and i was fortunate enough to have them for foundations. They treat you with respect and pump you full of confidence. They are honest and their teachind style is great. I was one of the 77 that failed. I did the remediation and was supposed to start back up a couple weeks ago. But during the summer I had a lot of time to think about what I was doing and decided that WCCCD is not where I wanted to continue school at with nursing. Remediation was a joke. Just busy work. Yes, nursing school should be hard. Its a lot of responsibility..a persons life is in your hands..ur the door between life and death..as we were told. So it shouldnt be as easy as AP was. You should spend hours of studing regardless of which school you go to. But its almost like you are set up for failure with some of these instructors. I would never tell someone to go to WCCCD for nursing. I would push people to go for their bachelors. If I continued at WCCCD..it would be almost 4 years to get an assoc. degree. I started pre reqs in fall of 06. I went year round to get my pre reqs done. Started nursing in Spring 08. So I could have been done december of 09. Then after failing it was may of 10..with those amount of years I should have done a bachelors program...which is what im looking for now. Live and learn I guess. Do you know anything about WSU? I have heard that it is harder to get into the nursing program there than EMU. Just wondering if true.

Hello all! I am one of the 77 out of 120 that failed in my group at WCCCD! yes, lots of people. We jumped through the hoops of "remediation" and new classes begin on Oct. 20..and we are all still waiting to see if we all get in or who gets in or what. I am sooo irritated with WCCCD. I do not want to continue the nursing program there. My mentor told me to never blame the instructor..it is not their fault. Its yours. Your doing something wrong. If you dont like your instructor than you must teach yourself...r u kidding me? If the instructor actually taught maybe things would be ok. I know I am not the only one with problems with this instructor. Anyways after this semester I am 3 credits away from my assoc. in applied science. So I thought of finishing up at WCCCD with the assoc. degree and moving on to do nursing elsewhere. Im wondering if anyone can give some info on universities...waiting lists and the programs itself. Im looking, so far, at Madonna, EMU or UM. Any other suggestions on other schools would be great. Thanks!!

Does it matter which littman? Lightweight is less exsmemberve than classic.

Congrats to all of us! Try2stopme...I had a B in micro..so the rumor of not being able to have B's in the sciences is not true. Your GPA should be just fine.

I guess I will have to do that. Like I said, I know it isnt a pre req or co req but Ive heard it will help you during the actual program. I cant afford to waste the time or money, so if I dont need it than Id rather not take it. I was just hoping someone that is already in the program could tell me if they thought a chemistry class would have helped them or if they took one, did it help them.

I know it isnt a pre req or co req but i have heard people say that you need the info from chem to help you during the program...someone had said that there was a part they failed only due to not having taken a chem class and that the people that passed this particular part had taken chem..so i guess i was just wondering how many people have ran across this during the program...id hate to waste my time and money but on the other hand, if it will greatly help me than I will do it.

I have just completed all my pre reqs for the program at WCCCD. I plan on applying in the fall for the Jan 08 program. So this fall I have registered for 4 co reqs..trying to get those out of the way. My question is about chemistry. Is it needed or not? I have heard both sides and so Im a bit confused. If it is needed, is intro to chem enough or do you need to go on? If needed, is it something that should be taken now or can it be taken next summer, after my first semester in the program? I did go ahead and register for intro to chem for this semester just in case. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I also have micro with meyers...and justforus...and I too am around a B. We both took micro and AP1 and nutrition this semester and have survived. Would have been happier with an A. The work itself wasnt that hard, it was finding the time to juggle the homework/studying for all 3 classes plus a family with 2 demanding kids and a husband. I know someone that is in my AP class and has micro with someone else and she has an A in the class. So just make sure u put some time in to study and u should do fine.

I have heard that most states will endorse your license. You have to contact the Board of Nursing in the state you want to go to and find out. Some states may have you take tests for their state but most will just endorse what u already have, for a fee. And check the time frame too since it could take anywhere from 1 week to 6. I pm'd someone about this same thing and what i just wrote was about the answer I got back. We are looking to move out of state also, when I get done with school. Good luck and hope that helped.

Does anyone have any idea as to how one becomes a nursing teacher? Im doing pre reqs for the nursing program at wayne county right now. Im hoping to start the program by jan 08. Once im done with all that I plan on going on to wayne state for a bachelors. I am curious as to pay and schooling of nursing teachers. Anything would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! I am doing my pre-reqs and am hoping to be able to start the program Jan 08. Just think, if I get to start then, You will be half way through the program! How exciting! I dont know where you live, but at the Taylor Meijers there is a clinic that charges $49. Ive gone there a few times for sinus infections. They are really nice there. Nurse Practioners pretty much run it. Very fast too. They have this 15 minute policy. Your not supposed to wait longer then 15 minutes to be seen. That would be a good place to go for a physical. I am just starting pre reqs at WCCC but i was wondering if anyone could let me know what pay is when just out of school. I know it will be different when i am done but it would be nice to know ball park figure. From what I have been reading it seems that a friend of mine that just got hired in as a postal carrier, no college, earns more then an RN just starting off. Thanks.

I could really use some advice. I have been a stay at home mom for almost 8 years now and want to go back to work. However I am seeing that in order to get a decent job I need an education. I have always been interested in Nursing. However my problem is time and money. I live on a limited income, my husband is on disability and I also have an almost 8 yr old son...so my time and money tends to be limited... and so I am sure that getting school paid for wont be a problem it is just getting back and forth to school. I was debating just taking one of the many programs offered around here(Taylor) for CNA so I can get a job rather quickly and then slowly work my way up with schooling from there. Or do an LPN program with the same intentions. Is it worth it to go this route or should I just jump right in it with schooling for RN and apply for all the financial aid I can with hopes of there being money left over after tuition/books etc costs? I've been researching many different schools for RN and have decided on Wayne County Community College, if I do the RN program. The only school for LPN around me seems to be Schoolcraft, tho its kind of a distance from me. CNA training seems to be everywhere but it would be nice to go to a place that someone can recommend that maybe does job placement. My husband is supportive but wants me to hurry up and make a decision...he thinks I should just go ahead with the RN program even tho it could take me 3 or 4 years being that I have to take pre req's and all that. So many people I know are going into nursing and everyone is doing it a different way. Are there a lot of LPN jobs? Ive been reading most are in nursing homes. Ive checked out pay for LPNs and RNs What about CNAs? Someone told me they make about $12 an hour...is there any truth to that? Sorry for all the questions. I'm in a state of confusion right now trying to figure this out. Any info/advice would be welcomed. Thank you all for your time!
