  1. You guys are my hero's in the nursing field, I've been so impressed with the flight nurses I've encountered. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you all do.
  2. I have a RN friend who is trying to convince me that I should come to work at her Hospital as a Patient Care Tech, I'm a LPN who is considering getting their ADN and I've quite a few credits accumulated to that end. I'm not sure about what I would be doing as a PCT, Currently I'm the night nurse at a small LTC and I do everything that is needed. Just what are PCT's responsible for? LPN does not stand for Little Pretend Nurse......
  3. of course I come in here once in a while.... won't even pretend I don't...
  4. I know this won't help you... your angry and part of it is because you have studied, worked hard and they are allowing this other student to pass but..... Do you really feel this person is going to pass the NCLEX? This situation pretty much happened in my class at nursing school also..... The girl took the NCLEX multiple times..... last time I heard she hadn't passed and was doing something else...... At NCLEX time there is no cheating, no one cares who you are or what school you went too, and there are no free passes.... and if she does pass it.. Her first job will be a real shock..... They won't care either, and will have expectations for her also and if she doesn't meet them it won't take them long to get rid of her. Relax, concentrate on your own performance and clear your mind of what this other student is or isn't doing.......
  5. Hi, I don't know where in Missouri you might move to but you mentioned central Missouri so maybe you could attend State Fair Comm. College in Sedalia, they have a 1 + 1 program... Go one year and you have your requirements for LPN, complete the next year then or later and you have what is required to test for your RN, This is just a thought..... Carole
  6. Medic74, I called the MO BON today 1/18/07 and was assured that Excelsior was approved by the board, What was said to me is that any school could lose accreditation. but that Excelsior was approved just like other schools and there are quite a few Excelsior students in Missouri. I attended a LPN program and the BON did one of its routine inspections of the program, it was put on probation, so I know that it doesn't matter where you go, things could happen. I so don't listen to the nay sayers. Pursue your education. In KC our options for a ADN are very narrow. Park U's program is Lpn to RN and cost $18,000 in 2006, Penn Valley has a waiting list.... That leaves you with Graceland, UMKC, William Jewel and a couple of others that have BSN programs. Excelsior seems a good option.......
  7. MO BON excepts Excelsior, but the glitch comes when you apply for a KS license, you need to work in MO for 1,000 hours before KS will give you a license... this is just a heads up from someone who is seriously looking at Excelsior.. when you get your license it will say RN not the school you attended so good luck......
  8. Have friends who went thru the Park U program, said the test was like a Extreme NCLEX exam.. it was tough but do able, They have a lot of inquires about the program and then a lot less people when faced with taking the entrance credit validation exam follow thru.. Go for it or look at Excelsior college distance program........
  9. One word of advice, Going to school when your older makes you want to do take more classes. Just make sure your school for PN has the type of accreditation so that your Gen Ed courses transfer. Would really like to know what on line school your taking RN with. Online really helps older students, you can sit and ponder things a while...
  10. You can do it, I started school at 50+, Got my LPN at 52, and I'm now planning on Bridging for my RN at 54... What surprised me the most was the acceptance I got from the younger students, despite large age differences (I could of been their MOM) We got to be great friends.. One of the girls is planning on bridging with me as we were study buddies in the LPN program.
  11. Think a B/P cuff for before & after, gloves, KY jelly. a bed pan, TP. and the bottom of a patient........
  12. Big question on Excelsior is Clinicals.... where, and when, how did you get them done. I'm interested but have'nt gotten a good answer on that yet.
  13. I've worn white to work.. and I've worn my cap... older patients liked it . but it just wasn't practical.. I didn't experience a difference in how I was treated by the patients families, or by the other staff members. my staff never had a problem with recognizing me as their supervisor, my patients families all knew who I was as I was the only one that actually introduced myself.. I think the introduction was the key... they'd come out and ask to speak to the nurse and they'd know my name...
  14. You have got to be kidding me... 26 yrs to old to go to school? I'm 53 yrs and thinking that I want, no need to go back to school. my motto is. When you stop learning you start dying.. Hence the stacks of books by my bed and littering my home...... Go to school, you'll enjoy it more:mortarboard:
  15. I've been following this from the first post.. Something does not sound right here... I know of no employer who would break state employment law just because they "hated" someone. lets go back to being fired from 4 jobs in one year and being reported to the state, losing certification and not wanting to dispute it. I did a little discussion with some Aides... they all, everyone, told me that no way would they not want to know or not dispute allegations made about them if they were reported to the state. Something happened some where that was reported, and with the last incident being reported to the state it sounds like seriously something is wrong.... Go and find out what was reported to the state and check the abuse registry or you will just continue to blame others for being fired, what ever was reported you need to figure out and clean up... as this could interfer with you getting a job doing something else.
