  1. Hello! US RN here, just a follow up, were you able to find an employer who sponsors H1b? I have a relative in the Philippines that ls wanting to go here. Thanks in advance!
  2. hi everyone, [color=#483d8b] [color=#483d8b]clueless here, i applied for licensure in ny passed the nclex on sept 23. i am wondering if i would be automatically licensed without completing the child abuse and infection control yet, are those needed asap in order to have a license number? will it mean no license number if those were not done? im planning to do the child abuse and infection control next week though next week though. [color=#483d8b] [color=#483d8b]thanks!!!
  3. yay!!! i passed the nursing boards so now im licensed to work in ny..what an experience!!! i took the exam last sept 20 and it shut off at 75, i was actually relieved it shut off early, i guess i would be going crazy if it went on and on as i was already feeling butterflies in my stomach when i reached 73, got worse when i was trying to answer question 75..and then suddenly blue screen!!! oh my... [color=#483d8b] [color=#483d8b]i would like to say that the exam is really doable..i got serious reviewing 2 weeks before the exam. a month before that i did read saunders but it got so boring i didnt finish it..so i just used it for reference from then on. so i started answering kaplan, found my weakness...kaplan is great to hone our critical thinking skills and it is most like the real nclex exam. then a day before the exam, a classmate lent me her feuer reviewer and read thru some practice questions, was a great review as well...so like the nclex questions.. i would say it was kaplan and feuer that helped me think like nclex.. [color=#483d8b] [color=#483d8b]and to this great site, i would like to thank cos it helped me know nclex, and knowing the enemy is one way of winning the battle!!
  4. hi nurse bean!! thanks for your advice....the amount of time you studied is just awesome..considering that you were just doing 6 hours of study time in a week plus the fact that you have a cutie little rugrat in your home!!! i have friends here in the philippines who review for like 4-5 months and thats full time..you know like 8 hours a day...its amazing how they can keep up with that. i definitely cant, so im really amazed. like you, i also have not gone to a formal review class, i just used saunders compre and the kaplan trainers. did not really finish saunders, i guess i read about 3/4 of the book...then i took kaplan to test my critical thinking skills. i do agree with your idea of spending my last 5 days just practicing questions...i realize that that would put me into the nclex mode..so now, even if i still feel i have not covered everything, i guess i would just have to trust my gut and the lord on this...like most nclex takers say, "you can never be ready" oh myyyyy.... 5 days more to go, today, i had a full body massage..gosh i needed that..and just to let you know it only costs $6 dollars here in the philippines...hahaha ..tomorrow im having my nails done....just trying to relax myself a bit before the big day... thanks so much for your input, helped me to decide on what to do... lou
  5. congratulations nurse bean!!! now that you've passed the boards, any words of wisdom for those who are struggling to keep awake trying to study for this exam? what do you think helped you pass? was it doing questions from kaplan? or knowing the lab values..how about the signs and symptoms of popular diseases? also side effects of meds and the likes...geeeez i only have 5 days to go before i take the exam and im in a whirlwind now cos im trying to figure out how to spend my last 5 days...i tell you i cant afford to just sit down and relax cos i think i still have a lot to cover....pls pls pls advice....thanks!!! :monkeydance:
  6. hi heatherrn, i was already getting confused of the 2 heathers here...hehehe i thought indeed heather75 had changed her nick to heatherrn..lol anyways, any advice you can give to someone who will take the boards 10 days from now..i know i can still do so much with that amount of time. but i have to use that remaining time smartly..so any suggestions? any last minute tips on what to study???i have done kaplan trainer and have been scoring on the low 60's, also studied saunders for content.
  7. haha, yeah of course i remembered..i will take my exam on the 20th of sept and im not confident yet, i still have got some topics i need to brush up on. though im almost done with the kaplan trainer, (still have to do trainer 7) still not happy with my results as im getting low 60's. could have done better i guess if i have a good base knowledge on certain topics..which is what im working on now. anyway, what really helped you beat this test? please advice...any smart and efficient way to do this? i know there has to be a better way to do this..and you might have the answer!!!! hehehe
  8. oh my!! congratulations nurse heather! i knew you'll make it with your high scores on kaplan..god is good!!!
  9. Hi Heather! again...:monkeydance: Thanks for sharing your insights...I have done reviewing content with Saunders the past month, have taken the practice sets and read the rationales..though Im not certain if I have retained all the information...Im thinking I did not cos Im not doing well with content area, and thats according to Kaplan. So I do agree with you in brushing up on content where my weakness lies...Thats what Im doing now....It makes me feel better when I answer a particular question that I have knowledge on, rather than answering a question and getting it right because I made an intelligent guess. By the way, I am scheduled to take the test on October 18 but Im still looking for available schedules and move it a little earlier like Sept 24th, that would be the perfect date for me. I dont want to wait longer since my short term memory can do just as much...hahaha Thanks again...
  10. hi heather75.. your scores are great, i was actually wondering how you prepared for nclex..did you finish the whole kaplan book before you tested on that 180 item practice test? i took the kaplan trainers and am scoring in the 60's, and im worried it seems like i have low scores. according to the test analysis i was poor on physiological adaptation, and as ive seen on my results i have been consistently low in that area, however, the critical thinking and analysis part i get really high percentages. so now, i am trying to go back reviewing content, which is not adviseable according to some posts here, and i personally think that its not the way to go now especially that my exam date is fast approaching. what to do? hope you can advise me or share me how you're doing it..i could always learn from other people's experiences :wink2: this site has really guided me.. thanks a lot! and may god give you lots of wisdom on the day of your exam....god bless.
  11. Resolved my dilemma!~! I have been constantly checking on availability of schedules in HK, practically almost every 10 minutes...hahaha well, I got lucky, found a slot for Ocotber, not so bad at all.
  12. *sigh* I wish I can do Saipan but I can not opt for that testing center because I am on a tight budget. I have already paid for that $150 extra charge for international test site. In addition to that, my family is sort of complaining about the costs of all these, not getting enough support from them now. Its very frustrating, to be dependent on other people especially if you feel that it seems like a burden on them to be helping you out.
  13. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this kathykaye..yes ive been constantly checking HK for their schedules, right now all they have is sept 4 and the next is like Nov 29, *sigh* my att is expired by then...oh my....now i just called up Taiwan consulate, asked for the requirements for a visa....geeeeez they still need a bank statement from me proving that I can afford to travel. Problem is that I have no savings on my account because I only depend on my parents as of the moment cos Im not working. So I asked if its alright to get an affidavit of support or something like that, they said yes that can be...but *sigh* again....Its a lot of work to apply for a Taiwan visa plus the visa fee of P1950....I feel so helpless and this has taken a lot of energy from me, energy that I need on the BIG day...
  14. Hi Everyone! I am taking my exam in Taiwan because I cant get an early date for a HK test site. Looks like Id be spending so much more for this trip. First I have to apply for a Taiwan visa-$36 I think, I dont even know how to go about this, no travel agency here in Bacolod helps with the visa issuance! BUMMER...then airfare is $348 via Philippine Airlines, $398 if China Air...geeeez tooo expensive plus accomodations, etc. huhuhu Please if anyone out there can advice me on how to lessen my expenses, message me. I am really not familiar with the packages with travel agencies, though I went to 2 travel agencies, they do not have special promotions for Taiwan. Also, I hope someone would be kind enough to share their Taiwan NCLEX experiences... Thank you so much guys!! Any input would be appreciated.
  15. :balloons: Hi to all!! I filed my CVS last January 2005, CGFNS mailed my report to Albany June 2005, took 6 months to process, but that including the delay of my transcript validation form, which was mailed through ordinary Philippines post, took two months to reach them!!! So I guess, the processing times here varies depending on how fast your school and licensing authority would send in your documents. But calling CGFNS to verify status of your application and finding out what is still needed helps speed things up.
  16. Geeez, I have received the same exact email from an agency....but just to let you know, I am not signing up with them. Thank God to all the information thats available here. :balloons: Cheers ya all!!!
  17. Thanks Suzanne..I would say ..let nature take its course..hehe..I am also a second courser so the verification process may be different from among others. But I feel better now, reviewing for 8 hours a day with a lot of 15 minute breaks in between. Thanks again and God bless.
  18. Hi Jon. Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering, did you do a lot of follow ups? You know, like emails, calls to CGFNS? And did it help speed up things? Cos like now, I feel that I dont have much to do since they have received all the necessary documents from school and licensing authority. All I can do is just wait. So I was wondering maybe if I call them from time to time it would make them work on my case.. Anyway, what review materials are you using? Im a bit scared cos I have decided to just self review cos there arent any good enough review centers here in my province. Im trying to do Suzanne's study guide. Its good cos I get better and better but I'm still not sure if its enough.. Its really scary cos I already have batchmates in school that did not pass NCLEX. I was thinking that it has a lot to do with our basic background..*sigh*.. I just hope Im doing the right thing and not regret that I haven't gone to a review center for the exam.
  19. :monkeydance: Hi!!! Im an RN from the Philippines...I am so glad I found this site..its very active and so updated with whats going on in our world..i love it!
  20. Hi Jon..I also applied for CVS last January 2006. I am just curious about that 8 month time frame..did you have any delays on your school's and licensing authority's submission of docs? In my case, my school sent my transcripts via regular airmail so it took a long time to reach cgfns ... took like 2 months to reach them!! So now it is my 5th month of waiting. They recieved my transcripts last May 3,2006. Now I am just wondering how long will it take them to issue my report. From your experience, how long did it take from the receipt of all the necesarry docs to the time your report was issued? Thanks so much..just need this info because I get worried sick that its so hard for me to focus on reviewing for NCLEX.
  21. O my gosh!!! This news is heaven sent! I am so happy and the rest of us of course....cant wait to sit on my NCLEX now...
  22. Thanks Suzanne for the quick response. Yes CGFNS has received my documents..last document to be recieved by them was my transcripts, which was received May 3,2006. On all the documents they recieved, there was a small note that a credential specialist and a licensing specialist is doing a review now. But my status online is still waiting for approval. I called up NY Albany and a girl from there said it could take up to 8 weeks but she didnt say 2 weeks. I guess youre right about Vermont..Why do I need to apply there when all my docs are already with CGFNS? *sigh* the only thing is that I will be completely clueless on how fast or slow CGFNS can issue my report. and that really bothers me because its hard to review for the exam when all else is uncertain..for one, hard for me to make a schedule because I dont have a deadline yet. But anyway, would calling someone in charge of my papers be of help to expedite the processing? If yes, would you know who to contact? Again, thanks Suzanne!:monkeydance:
  23. Hi Suzanne!! I am a registered nurse in the Philippines, have recently applied for CVS and licensure for the NYBON. Now I am so worried that cgfns is taking so long to issue my report. Im at my fifth month of waiting for my cvs report to be issued. But no word from them. My school and licensing authority have already complied with the all requirements so I am hoping that by the sixth month cgfns can send the report to Albany. Plus another 2 months for the eligibility letter and the att from Pearson-Vue that would total to 8 months of processing in order for me to sit in for NCLEx...thats just a rough estimate if all goes well. My question is, would it be ok to apply for the state of Vermont so as to get things done quickly? I remember you have posted that Vermont can process application for a month or so...your respose would be greatly appreciated..thank you.
  24. You know, I also have the same sentiments. I have applied cvs last Dec months have passed, still no report issued. Ok so that is understandable as it takes 6 months maximum. What makes me mad is that everytime I contact cgfns, be it thru phone or email, I get the same response..."pls wait 4-6 weeks for your report to be issued" 6 weeks have passed and NOTHING That is totally insane I mean we are paying them for this service and we get this kind of response from their robotic customer reps (i call them robots cos all they do is scan thru their monitors not really knowing about the status of our application, then they make promising statements)The fact of the matter is CGFNS cant deliver! Do you have any idea on where to bring this matter up? I want to file a complaint with regards to their pooor service..sigh...im jus feeling helpless now because I live so far away from PA.
