Western Governors RN-to-BSN: My First 6 Month Term (Almost)
They should be honest, in my initial meeting with my mentor I filled out my goals and stated my top priority was to be done as quickly as possible. The mentors know that all the nursing classes can be done in 6 months. Whether or not WGU tells them to put the breaks on is something I don't know. Anyway, my point is more of that people like you, who are akin to the people who leave high school but still want to hang out with the students there so you can impart your wisdom and have them think how cool you are, are giving others the impression that your opinions are gospel instead of letting them form their own!

Figured you must have been grads, but it doesn't make you an expert on the system. My mentor knew I wanted to complete this in 12 months. I had to do ALL the classes and finished half of them in 6 months. She is actually the one pulling up the classes especially after before I am done with the 12 required credits.

Western Governors RN-to-BSN: My First 6 Month Term (Almost)
Well I must be lucky and have a good mentor as I announced that I wanted to be done as quickly as I could and my mentor did not have a problem. A lot of these threads here and on Facebook seem to give a lot of negative feedback on what the competency based programs are like, especially for the classes. So in addition to keeping it quiet about how fast you want to finish, take people's opinions on how difficult or easy course is with a microscopic grain of salt. If you believe the hype you will set yourself up to fail.

WGU RN-BSN October 2015 start date
It took them about 5-7 days for me. They then email you a transcript evaluation with what credits transferred and what courses you need to take. Hope you have less than me! None of mine transferred. Good Luck!

My recommendation is to sort out some sort of work visa. Most companies will sponsor you for a green card but in return you have to work for them for a period of time. Do the minimal commitment then you can be on your way. I know people who work at UCSF, they enjoy it. Although San Francisco is a beautiful place it is expensive so you may find yourself working in the city but not able to afford to live there. Good luck!

RN-BSN
I am currently in the process of getting started with my RN-BSN program. None of the modules I did during my diploma (from the UK) transfered so therefore I have to do everything. I am planning to do this online with WGU as they seem to be cheap and let you progress quickly if you want. The issue is I have to do A&P with a lab component, they send out all the materials including a pig fetus. Does anyone have any advice how to deal with this? I have a pretty small apartment and Im not sure how much space I will need. I also have a pet, did anyone have any issues with that? I am just wanting to find out what other people's experiences have been and any tips on how to get this component of the course done as quickly a possible. Thanks

University Of Dundee
I am currently in Colorado. The payments are made to the "celtic-scholar" and then they process the fee and then you receive all the material plus your student card from the university, you have access to their on-line library and also they provide the basic books from the coursework. The modules are listed in the celtic scholar workbook and you initially will email for a tutorial and then you will be given a choice of times available pick one and then your tutor will call you, the downside with being 7 hours behind the UK is that I have to get up pretty early for the tutorial. The focus is really on self study but you can have as many tutorials as you think necessary or if it is something simple you can communicate via email. There is also a messageboard with other students to discuss the coursework.

This is not a scam, I am currently enrolled in this program. I had my nurse educator check it out and it is legit. Because you are practising as a nurse they count that as clinical time and your papers are relevent to your place of work. I trained in Scotland and find that this is the best way for me to get my Bachelors as I don't have the same pre-reqs that US nurses have and to persue my Bachelors here it would take about the same time as someone starting out which was not the plan for someone with 16yrs+ in nursing. It is basically an RN-BSN program.

preceptor stories
I agree that not everyone is cut out to be a preceptor. I myself do not enjoy it as I feel that I am not a good teacher, although I am knowledgable. I have 10 years OR experience both in scubbing and circulating and I have had to precept RN's & CST's. Another problem I have is when I have new nurses assigned to me who are almost finished their orientation. They do not want you to help them so they can get their speed up and want you to sit in the corner, I am not that kind of OR nurse I have to continually keep moving and even when I am free, feel I have to help someone get started. However give me an enthusiastic nurse (or tech) and I will gladly teach them everything I know, but as my speciality is orthopedics some people have the attitude that they are going to hate it before they even try it,then precepting someone with that attitude is a chore.
