ER nurse interested in PACU
i have worked er for 20 years and am interested in transitioning into pacu. i would like some input from pacu nurses as to how you feel about er nurses joining you. would it be a smooth transition for an experienced er nurse? what would be the best thing to say to the pacu manager to get my foot in the door? thanks

Pay Differences Across California
NickiLaughs, thanks for responding to my question. Yes I did mean Inland Empire. Can you tell me if any of the ER's in the Inland Empire area use travelers? I was thinking this may be a good way to go for me. Thanks

Pay Differences Across California
I am glad I found this thread because I am thinking of relocating from Florida. Is there a market for a 10+ yr experienced ER nurse in the Inland Valley area? Is $40/hr for full time the going rate?

about CO nursing
davscor86, Thanks for your post. I moved from California in 2000 to Florida and am now hoping to relocate to Colorado. I too am an ER Nurse. I have learned from working in Florida that Nursing has no voice in staffing or pay. I think Florida is one of the worst states for nurse wages. I know I took at least a 5% pay cut. In the ER I work at, our pt ratios are 4-1; they used to be 5-1 until enough of us complained that it was too unsafe for our patients. After 30 years of working in hospitals, I find it appalling that that nurse managers have not stepped up to the plate and convinced administration that working conditions for nurses must be improved upon for the sake of the patients. Instead they have become brainwashed in to believing that patients will get sufficient care no matter how many additional responsibilities are given to the nursing staff as ancillary positions are cut. They have forgotten or never experienced bedside nursing and have succumbed to the demands and wishes of those in the healthcare business that are in business solely for profit. I am sorry to hear that Colorado may even be a worse place to work. I am eager to know what ER you are at. Please PM me the info.

University Hospital Denver?
I'm Curious, What is the staffing ratio for RN's in the ER there?

Why are emergency nurses not considered critical care nurses?
The difference is just a state of mind. ER nurses are good at seeing the big picture. ICU nurses are detail oriented. I work ER and admit that my knowledge of all those lines the ICU nurse deals with is limited. They can have them.

Is anyone else totally frustrated with CO nursing?
Hi, I am going to relocate to Colorado Springs area from Florida after my home sells. I am an experienced ER nurse. It is sad to hear the poor state of respect for nursing there. I am thinking perhaps a travel assignment might be best. Do the local hospitals use travelers or use contracts for RN's? Louise

Tell me about it.
Thank you all for the great information. It sounds nice there. Do any roads in Woodland park area get closed because of the snow? I'll be coming to the area in April to check it out.

Tell me about it.
I am considering a move to Colorado. I have been in Florida for 3 years and I really don't like the humidity and flat lands. (Yes the pay sucks) I grew up in Orange County CA and it really spoils you for everything else. I moved away because it became way too crowded. My boyfriend and I like to hike and would like to do some more of it before we get too old. I've been a nurse for 30 years, I work full time ER so I don't think I'll have any problems getting employment. Looking for milder winter, less than 30 minute commute to work and close to hiking trails. We are considering Woodland Park. Anyone know the area? I'd love to hear all opinions THanks
