  1. The new study guide won't be out in time for the May exam. At least as far as I have been told.
  2. HCV cannot stop you form entering Nursing School. You don't even need to mention it and it's against the law if you are discriminated against. The ADA (American Disability Act) protects you. Go for it as long as you have the stamina. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. THC may accumulate in fatty tissue for up to one month (heavy use and obesity can add to this). You can actually have a quant done and not smoke and have the next quant be elevated due to fat storage and metabolism. Physical findings of intoxication, red eyes, dry mouth, increased heart rate, impaired coordination and reaction time. Behaviors include impaired learning and retention, personality changes, hazardous driving from poor coordination and judgement. There may also be occasional flashbacks, euphoria, silliness and heightened sensitivity to external stimuli. To name some. Adverse effects: Anxiety tremors, Hallucinations, slowed speech and thought patterns, impaired short term memory. Not to mention Males: decreased sperm count, decreased testosterone levels with gynecomastia. Females: Menstrual irregularities that may persist for months. And of course Anhedonia, and fear of insanity to name some. with drawal symptoms include Irritability, restlessness, tremors, N/V/diarrhea, sleep disturbances to name some. DID I MENTION YOU CAN LOOSE YOUR LICENSE??????
  4. I'm not a Pollyanna by any means...Nursing has been great to me. There are some days better than others, that's life!!! I work in Addiction Nursing, and so does everyone else if they think about!!! (I'm reading the pain management threads with a chuckle) I remember a nurse telling me long ago that "Nurses eat their young" if we want to survive we need to nurture our young. You may want to consider Forensic Nursing with your back ground. It may be worth investigating. Monmouth Univesity in NJ has certification in this field. Some days are crazy. I have a fellow employee that after a bad day he always says," Tell me Mrs. Lincoln, aside from everything else that happened tonight, how did you enjoy the play?" He also reminds me daily, "you have to be special to work here." (There are days I don't feel that special.) Humor puts things in perspective. You can't fake being a nurse, you'll know!!!!
  5. After 26 years as an LPN and now three as an RN I feel like I finally made it. I'm DON of a Residential Drug Treatment Facility and recently became certified as CARN (certified addiction registered nurse) I still get a tingle when I sign RN after my name and now adding CARN makes it even sweeter!
  6. I never get the flu shot. I had a professor for micro that worked for a company that made the vaccine. He said you should never get a vaccine unless it is out for 2 years... the flu vaccine is new each year. He said the virologists at the company he worked for, that made the vaccine, wouldn't give it to their family. We all have professors that we felt were the best of the best, this one is mine!!!
