  1. Hey deeDawntee, I live in KY. I am 34 and I have 2 kids and a husband. I have been in nrsg for 7 yrs now. I worked in med/surg for 5 yrs and have been in ccu/icu (ours is together) for 2 yrs now. Thank you for the information on the fees and cerps. I did not realize that it was that much for the renewal fee. I don't really have a problem with the number of cerp's that have to be done. Some of the articles are very interesting and do not take very long to do. I haven't even started studying for the test yet. I just wanted to get some info before I jumped right into it. My husband doesn't really understand why I would want to do this or what the difference would be to have it or not. I really don't know what to do for sure. I am really leaning towards to taking the test anyway. Any more pointers would be helpful. Thanks for everything. heysmalls:paw:
  2. hi everyone, when you do the cerp's for the recert of ccrn, do those credit hours count for your rn ceu's also and do you have to pay a renewal fee for the ccrn? Sorry for all of the questions. I just like to have all of the information down before I go into something like this. Thanks everyone for the info.
  3. Hey!!! Congrats on passing the test:yeah::icon_hug::nmbrn: What is the CSC attachment? I don't think that I have heard of it. Thanks
  4. .hi everyone!! i am very puzzled about how you renew the ccrn with the cerps. where do you go to do this and does it cost anything. i have not taken the test yet, but i would like too. just wanted to have everything all together before i made up my mind to do it. i just can't find the cerp's. if anyone could help, i would greatly appreciate it. congrats to all who have passed the test.
  5. i work at a somewhat small hospital in the icu/ccu unit that only has 8 beds. We have visiting hours set, that some of us follow. Others just let whoever in whenever and they stay all day. When the other staff comes in and tries to inforce the rules, then it causes problems and you look like the bad nurse. Even though you try to explain that the pt needs to rest and assessments to do, and ect. they still get a little testy. Brochures are even handed out so they can read, but alot of them don't care what it says. They just want to be in there. I personally like the closed visitation but for it to work, all of the staff needs to abide by the rules.
  6. At our hospital, if the BNP is over 100, then the pt is dx CHF. However, if the pt is on Natrecor, and the dr wants to recheck the BNP....expect it to be high. Natrecor causes a rise in the BNP results.
  7. There is a comatose pt in our unit from very low blood sugar for so long. When we hold her eyelids up and look at her eyes, they move back and forth. You can tell that she is not focusing on anything around. The eyes just move on their own. What could this be from? Is it an indication of severe brain damage?
  8. Hi. I have ordered several things from Jasco and I have not had any problems with them. I don't know what the problem was, but I hope you get your things soon. :paw::paw::paw:
  9. Hey everyone, I am really wanting to take the ccrn exam, but I have not got any material. Found some things that looked interesting though. any suggestions on books? Also, after you take the exam, how do you renew the certification? I surely do not want to have to take the test again just for renewal.:trout: Thanks everyone, heysmalls of Ky

  11. Hey jamiejo, congrats on the upcoming graduation!!! I have to say, I worked in med-surg for 5 1/2 years before I started working in ICU/CCU. I believe that it really helps, esp. with time management. I have seem some new grads come here without working in med surg first, and most have stuggled getting it all together. I feel like it would benefit you more if you worked med surg first. Hope this helps you and good luck to you in whatever you do.:balloons: heysmalls
  12. What are the best books to get to study for the ccrn? i would prefer to get one that had cd's with them, so I could answer questions on the computer. Any suggestions
