Interview question
Boy it's been a long time since I last posted! So I'm going into an interview next week and I want to be prepared for one particular question. "what do you know about EPIC Care EHR?" - besides not much I have the basic information such as It's a privately held company founded in 1979 by Judy Faulkner and other private investors. It has now become a nation wide leader in EMR or EHR for mid to large scale hospitals. They are based in Verona, Wisconsin and employ over 4,000 staff. Are there any other tid-bits of information that would be benificial to include?

Preparing for my new Neuro ICU position- Please Help!
Best piece of advice I would give to you is "become a sponge" Soak up all the information you can. it'll all be greek but over time you'll get it! It took me 6 months to get the basics of neuro surg down. what with NIH scale, and the differences between a MCA, RCA, PCOMM and how they effect motor, sensory function and treatment plans such as clipping or coiling. talk about information overload! But as a new grad all they really want to know about you is are you smart enough to manage ICU patients and can you master time management skills. that's all their really assessing you for... understanding the pathophis and mechanisms for brain injury come later. the true learning part comes from the numerous patients you'll take care of over the life of your nursing career. P.S. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ask questions!

Leaving ICU to Where?????
Leave the ICU why on earth would you want to do that ! most of the ICU RN's where I work seem to move onto CRNA or ACNP

Do you think a general neuroscience unit is a good place for a new grad RN to start??
So do you like Neuro Med/surg? is it a better fit for you?

how many hours each day, you spent studying for NCLEX?
honestly alot of my friends and I are of the idea that there is no way to prepare for the NCLEX. It's all about the mindset you are in when you take the test! if I might suggest that you DO AS MANY PRIORITY QUESTIONS as possible. this comming from someone who had 265! I had ALOT of priority questions! Also Jsut remember if your score is about 60-70% correct then you are good to go with NCLEX. when I heard that I was like "are you sure?" but it's true!

how many hours each day, you spent studying for NCLEX?
truely I did about 2000 questions in may and june! july I was just so stressed about where my ATT was I couldn't study. so the month before my exam I did No questions

265 questions!!!!
what if I did pass at 75 and was selected to be one of the few to take ALL 265 I had 23 alternative type questions! 8 of which popped up in the first 75. 3 of which I know I got right! alot of the questions seemed a little easy. I counted 52 priority questions in the first 75... after that I gave up counting. but anyways It really doesn't matter I passed and I am glad!

YOU KNOW NURSING! one helpful hint is to TAKE your TIME. I spent 2 hrs on 75 questions! what's sad is I ended up with 265 questoins! grrr! well anyways good luck and I pray you don't get 265 questions! 5hrs and 11 mins of hell!! haha!

Things to do while awaiting NCLEX results
After taking my boards I went to the beach! It took me 10 mins to get there haha! I sat there all day looking at women in bikini's! that sure did help me ALOT! Next I smoked alot and thought of how I failed! followed by more Bikini's! . I think the best way to help you forget about NCLex is have sex and sleep! have more sex and more sleep! lol! thank god for pearsonvue and the 2 days to find out if u passed!

Why do you Nurse in the Burn unit ?
I am a new Burn Nurse to be! I fell in love with the Burn Center while I floated there a couple of times as an NA1. The challenges there were tough. the patient acuity was through the roof! All the while I was running around helping other nurses. I learned alot and discovered an inate desire to be part of this unique team of nurses dedicating themselves to helping some of the most tragic cases I have ever come across. I wish I could tell you some of the specific reasons why I fell in love with the Burn Center, but I'd probably be breaking some HIPPA laws then. Needless to say I feel for the patients at the Burn center and I am willing to dedicate myself to making some poor victims life a little better! :)
