  1. Mine from my ER time-Blunt force and penetrating trauma are wonderful teaching tools.
  2. There are nurses in public schools ? Not around here, the local politicians got rid of all but 2. Replaced them with snotty med techs who try to pass themselves off as nurses. Should of seen the look on their faces when I asked them a few Q's then refused to take my daughter out of school because they couldn't tell the difference between dandruff and head lice.

You may be working as a PCT, but in Ohio you are responsible to function at your education level. You can be held responsible as an RN even though you are on the clock as a tech.
  4. You don't owe them anything.

If your going with OA, let them pay for your your rental. They do that with alot of there assignments.
  6. If you settle for less than $30/hr, thats exactly what you are doing, settling. It doesn't matter where you are in your travel career, that is to low of an hourly wage to settle for. I will normally not work for less than $35, but thats me and I do make acceptions. Right now I'm making less, but the institution also put me thru their cert classes for 5 different VADS and trained me up on transplant, fair trade in my book. Don't sell yourself short. P.S. perdiems are added after the hourly wage.
  7. On Assignment has done well by me for 4 years.
  8. K cole21- Amen sister. As for others-I don't work for Fastaff right now, but I did a contract or two a few years back. If you don't care for a company, fine. Don't use there product, don't employ there services, don't benefit from having additional staff on hand, and most importantly DON'T tell me how to do my job or run my life. Your rights end where mine begin, and I am the judge of that not you. Have a nice day.
  9. Irvine is beatiful this time of year.
  10. I've been with OA for almost 4 years, hit or a miss a contract. My recruiterhas been great. Family insurance is more than if you just do it yourself. They have garantee hours, actually all mine are 48hr/week contracts. I had one problem with housing my first contract. Within 2 days they moved me to a REALLY nice place to make up for the problem. Midwest they don't have much. Either coast take your pic, tons of work. I would recommend them to anyone.

I started in CCU. Fresh caths/post MI. Pulling sheaths within 2 weeks. But my unit was 32 bed post intervention so sheathes were a dime a dozen. IABP within 6 monthes. Orienting to carge at 7 monthes. Prisma,CVVHD at 8 monthes. We got cabgs and valves 24-36 hrs out that were failure to thrive, failure to ween or bubble heads or strokes sooner. Stayed there for 2.5 years until management drove off there "seasoned" nurses. Started traveling, back to ER for a year, then started open heart as a traveler. Did it for 2 monthes, then ER for 8 monthes, then back to ICU for 3 monthes, then ER 8 monthes, then CVICU/transplant/VADS for last 1.5 years at a new heart hospital in Ohio. Love fresh hearts more than anything, the VADS have been a big bonus, nice padding for the resume. When I settle down should be able to walk in and say I want a job, and get it. Secret to my success 1) excellent preceptors 2) aggressive by nature, always looking for the next challenge 3) hit the units when staffing sucked and was flexible and loved the OT. If they won't give you the challenge someone else would be more than happy to. Just my .02 cents
  12. Not a manly profession ? Obviuosly she has never seen a VA lock down psych unit on night shift during a full moon. Not a manly profession ? After 27 years in the Navy, 3 tours in Vietnam, being in two aircraft crashes while on active duty and then starting nursing school at 47, my father said he would prefer being shot at then ever going to Nursing school again:chuckle
  13. You know your an ER nurse..... 1) When the PD brings in the drug dealer who ate his stash, you lavage him while ordering chinese take out, then strain the "rocks" out of the spagettios using a coffee filter, while the arresting officer vomits on the dealer, because he has to stay there with you because of "chain of custody". 2) You just start making bannana bags and doing inventory on charcoal when you show up to work, 12-31.
