  1. I work Critical Care at Sanford in Sioux Falls. I commute from Vermillion which is about a 45 min. drive. My clinical site is Sioux City. Married with children so roomate is out LOL....Congrats as well.....I am very nervous and excited.
  2. I will be atending Mount Marty
  3. We have an up and runnung protocol for the induction of hypothermia. Here is a link to the device we are currently using. http://www.medivance.com/
  4. $25 per hour in South Dakota. Not bad for Midwest. Not including sift diff or weekend/night premium
  5. I agree. Over the last year my critical care dept has merged. I may have a surgical patient in one room and a neoru with an extra ventricular drain next door or a trauma MVC one more down. I like this it gives me more exposure to different patients in critical care requiring different care and needs.

    our surgeons rarely order wedging.
  7. I worked ER for 9 years. I recently transfered to Critical Care without any floor experience. Tell her to go for it she will we OK.
  8. For that instance that is way too much ativan 10mg sounds more like a Valium dose. If he was an alcoholic and were worried about DT's that could be an acceptable dose depending what his CIWA score was.

I am also a male nurse. I am 36 years old. I have been a RN in the ED for 8 1/2 years. Prior to that I spent 6 years as a paramedic. Going form working with 99% male (paramedic) to 99% female (nursing) wasn't all that hard I just listened to my wife. She said keep your mouth shut cuz everything you say will come back to haunt you. Very good advice. Seriously tho being a male in the nursing profession is not bad at all. I just accepted a new position in the ICU I start feburary 6th. My goal is to go on the be a CRNA. There is deffinately room for males in this profession. Don't do RT too much snot and gross secretions. LOL Keep me informed, I'll be more than happy to give you any needed advice. Tim :chuckle
  11. One time they ordered Adenosine 6mg IV for a pt in V-tach. MY motto: When in doubt give em a courtesy shock :redlight:

I have been an ER nurse for 8 1/2 years. As was said before, be nice to the ancillary staff. Don't take any crap from med students, and never let them see you gag :) I was a paramedic for 6 years before nursing so the ER was a natural step for me. I too was also hired as a new grad. My days tho are number. Submitted resignation 3 days ago. Accepted Critical Care job in Level I trauma center with eventual goal of CRNA. Congrats on your accomplishments. Sorry if too long winded my 1st post and the ED is empty. It's O'Dark thirty and I want to sleep
