  1. The problem is most likely NOT the ear buds, rather the TENSION on the ear canal. I have this problem big-time. The Littmann literature addresses this, simply by pulling the ear-pieces apart, the spring tension will lessen, thus lessening the tension in the ear canal. You have do do this several times, depending on the quality of the steth. Cheap steth spring tension (cheap metal) will bend easily. Pricey one (Littmann/others) high quality metal spring, takes many (20 plus/minus) to finally get the tension to lessen. I have this problem every time I use someone elses steth, or the hospital-supplied. It kills my ears, can't hardly concentrate on what I am doing due to the pain. I loosened the tension on my Littmann and it is now VERY comfortable.
  2. Are you able to negotiate pay? When I looked at their website, all of the payscales were posted as to pay grade (am I correct)? I am a nursing student at Kirkwood and currently work as an N.A at UIHC. (by the way, I started as an N.A. at $11.05/hr.)
  3. I entered nursing school because of the television show "SCRUBS." That's what it's gonna be like....right?

I'm a nursing student, will (hopefully) graduate in 5 semesters, June 2009.
  5. can you tell me what a "bridge course" is? after i complete my pre-req's, i have between a 3-5 semester wait to get into the nursing program at the junior college in iowa city. they have an rn program here. i cannot afford the u of i, not to mention that would be 4 years and full-time. i'm just interested in obtaining my rn. i'm a 40 year old man, changing careers, my wife is currently finishing her pre-req's at the same college.

thanks for the intro. it's nice to know there is a male forum out there to get the support i need to take up this occupation. being in the automotive service field, i would compare a male going into nursing similiar to a woman going into the automotive mechanics field. there are a few ladies out there doing it, but, they don't have the easiest time of it. the guys generally don't give them a hard time, but think about the ladies getting together at an avon party....."hey, i'm a hair-dresser" or i'm a x,y or z. what do you do cindy??" "oh, i'm a auto mechanic." well, you get the jist. i am truly looking foreward to the profession, just hope i have what it takes to make it through the program. mainly it's the time involved getting through the pre-requisites, then a 3-5 semester wait to get into the nursing program, then 2 yrs of the program. thanks again for the intro to the forum. look forward to it!!

Just happened to come across this web-site, and thought it would be good to join, as I am in my 1st year of Nursing School. My wife is also in nursing school. This is definately a 2nd career for me, currently I'm in the automotive industry as a service consultant at a local Chevy dealership.. Mid-life crisis?? Maybe. (41 yrs. old) I'm soooooooooo tired of commission sales. I had thought in the past of getting into RT, but seems there are many more opportunities in the nursing field. Well guys, I'll stay posted, glad there's a forum for us.
