Just go for it. You will never truly feel ready! It sounds like you have done everything possibly to prepare.

I have an opportunity for my first ARNP job to work with a great physician who I have known for about 5-6 years in a speciality setting. He is willing to put in the time and effort to really train me. I am having issues though with the hours and what is right. It would be M-F typical, however, once per month he has to "take call." But that basically means he is rounding in the hospital (4 hospitals) seeing patients for other doctors. He needs help with this obviously. However, that would mean I'd be working 12 days in a row! I'm not making anything extra on top of my salary for this. When I asked about getting 1-2 days off during this week, he said he would have to think about it. Am I being unreasonable? I have an almost 1 year old. He is a family guy, so you'd think he would be understanding? How do you guys do this??

What would a part time schedule even look like in an office setting?

I have thought about this, and I have been looking, but I'm coming up short. Since I am a new grad, i have that going against me to begin with...

Anyone graduate and pass ARNP exam, but take time off before finding a job? I graduated in May 2014, passed my FNP cert in August, but I haven't found my first ARNP job yet because I had a baby November 2014. I am torn on finding a job because I know that most primary care jobs will be M-F 8-5, and right now I am very flexible in my three 12 hour shifts ICU job. I really don't want to leave my daughter so much while she's so young. I feel heartbroken. She's almost 6 months. She will never be this little again. But I am concerned that no one will hire me after taking off so much time between graduating and starting a job. Any words of advice, experience, wisdom, etc? I have an interview on Monday for the setting I want, but it's M-F 8-5. I'm not ready for this, but the extra money would be quite helpful:(

Congrats! I am taking my exam on Mon, Aug 18th. I am at the point now of just reviewing and answering questions. I took the AANP practice exam and got a 73%, which gave me somewhat of a boost of confidence, but not really. I've used Hollier review CDs, some Fitzgerald (I find she goes into a lot of detail/overwhelming), APEA Q bank (which I used all of, so I am not repaying), and I am using Leik's book. I am kind of sick of answering questions at this point because when I mess up, it gives me a lot anxiety. I have off work Sat/Sun so i am just going to review Hollier book with corresponding body system in Leik and maybe do some questions. I really hope I pass because I'm 28 weeks pregnant and want to focus on my baby right now!!!

I am making myself a syllabi to begin studying for my boards; it's my final semester of FNP. I have Barkley, which is organized by system, which is how I plan to study. I also have Fitzgerald, however, her CDs are not labeled. Does anyone know which CDs coincide with what system?? Thanks!!

Wow, how did you go about getting such great offers? I graduate in 10 months, need some serious tips!! I would go with Family because it will be more well-rounded, unless you absolutely want to do Derm, which i heard is difficult to break into...:)

Hi all, I will begin my pediatric rotation in August. Background, I have 5 years RN experience, 4 of which in the ICU. I have absolutely zero experience in pediatric nursing, besides my undergraduate rotation, which was not all that great. In between now and next semester, I'd like to review some topics related to peds so I can be somewhat prepared for clinical. Any advice on common illnesses that I should know, tips, tricks, the best resources, things you wish you knew before you started, etc? I love kids, and I'm thrilled to start a new rotation, but I have no children of my own yet, and my experience is seriously lacking (I don't even know normal pediatric vital signs, I feel clueless). Appreciate it!!!

I have to get in 180 hours in 12 weeks

I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner student, eagerly waiting to graduate in ONE year--May 2014. People keep telling me it will fly by, but honestly, the past 2 years have NOT flown by, I feel like it's taking forever. I finished my first clinical semester with Adult 1, and I'm about to begin Adult 2 for the summer. I feel like once the summer is over, it might feel closer to graduation because I only have clinicals with peds/womens, and then my FINAL with transitions. I'm 28, newly married, and I want to move on with my life, get a job, and start a family!! I work full-time in the ICU. I have off one day a week with school, work, and clinical. I figured it would be fun to start a thread to help those along who are graduating at the same time... Anyone else??

As an update, wanted to inform those following this that some schools are taking notice--mine specifically has overhauled and changed the curriculum to meet the new requirements. They've gone as far as eliminating courses and adding new ones. Our fall semester registration is currently on hold while they get everything ready. We've had "town hall" meetings to discuss the changes and how it will affect students. This is from USF. Hope this helps.

Even though I know it's not an exact science that i can control, ideally, i'd like to get pregnant during grad school, so that i would have the baby right after graduation. Anyone do something similar? This would also be good for us because my husband is a teacher and would be off during the summer time. In addition, i would still be at my RN job, could take maternity leave and not inconvenience my new job?

Hi everyone, I won't be graduating with my FNP until May 2014! I'm currently 27 (since February) and engaged to be married in October. While I know 29 is still doable to have babies, of course, I wonder if anyone has insight on having a baby while going to school part-time for MSN and working full-time? Anyone do it? success stories, tips, etc? I see threads related to undergrad, but none with graduate school... Thanks!

My concern is that I just started my program for Adult nurse practitioner and will be graduating in December 2013. As of now, I am not yet in the main courses (for example, I'm still taking theory, pharm, patho, etc., not yet clinicals), and I don't see them adding in any new curriculum. For those graduating in 2013--will our programs that did not change yet allow us to sit for the new certification?? I feel stuck--in the middle of it all!

Yes, I really love working for my organization. I only hear good things from other people, too. HCA hospitals, however...i would stay away from. All I hear is bad stuff.

Well, I am going on just 3 years experience at the same hospital,and I make 26+ so I would really shoot for $30 if you get an interview, etc, good luck, what area do you work in?

Just found out yesterday... 1. University of South Florida 2. MSN, adult concentration 3 Working part time in the ICU, three 12's 4. School part time 5. relieved that i got in and eager to begin this new chapter. Not sure how the next three years will pan out. i will be getting married in the next year or so, sooo now i am wondering how all of that will fit in!!
